Vehicle Warfare

Received all 3 vehicle warfare ribbons

How to unlock the Vehicle Warfare achievement in Battlefield 3 - Definitive Guide

You must obtain the three vehicle warfare ribbons for the achievement. Listed below are the vehicle types in ech category for you.

Air Warfare Ribbon is obtained by killing 6 enemies in a single round with any of the following vehicles:

Jets: F/A 18 Super Hornet, A10 Thunderbolt, Sukhoi Su-35 (SU-35BM FLANKER-E), Sukhoi Su-39 (SU-25TM FROGFOOT)

Helicopters: AH-1Z Viper, Z-11W, AH-6J Little Bird, MI - 28 Havoc.
@ darthluigi7 has pointed out, getting kills from the door gunner of transport heli's as confirmed so far such as KA - 60 Kasatka, UH- 1Y Venom will net transport warfare ribbons and not the intended Air Warfare. I'm not sure if this was intentional or something that may need to be patched but for now Air Warfare ribbons will need to be earned as a pilot or a gunner manning nose mounted turret/secondary weaponry but not side mounted machine guns on the transport choppers.

Transport Warfare Ribbon is obtained by killing 4 enemies in a single round with any combination of the following vehicles:

Transport:Humvee, Vodnik, Growler ITV, VDV Buggy, RHIB Boat, AAV-7A1 / Amphibious Assault V.
Door Gunner KA - 60 Kasatka, UH- 1Y

Armoured Warfare Ribbon is obtained by killing 7 enemies with any combination of the following vehicles:

LAV: LAV-25, BMP-2, 9K22 Tunguska, LAV-AD, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, BMD-3
Tanks: M1 Abrams, T-90

To help the longevity of your aircraft/vehicle ensure you're a engineer with the repair tool and as you rank with the vehicles the difficulty to staying alive and notching the kills will decrease as upgrades like smoke, flares and guided missiles are invaluable.

If possible make attempts for these ribbons with squad mates or team members in vehicles that have multiple seats. Two, three or more people repairing and spotting hostiles is a lot better for your life expectancy than trying to lone wolf it.

Air Warfare will give most people the trouble, the way I was able to obtain was finding a decent pilot so you can enter the gunner seat in a bird like the Viper. We only focused on providing air support for our squads capturing flags below in conquest, flares were a huge help and so was the stealth upgrade from the gun seat. If we were damaged he'd fly away from the action and land if nec. were we could repair. If we did go down we wait in the squad spawn menu until the chopper respawned.

Upgrades help loads, sitting as the gunner position zoom optics really helped as do flares, stealth and heat seekers for the pilot keeping other aircraft at bay. Also should go without saying being able to talk to your pilot gives a pretty big advantage. Just make sure you're spamming the spot button over the battlrefield and then focus on eliminating a single target before moving onto the next.

Heres a cheap but easy way to rack up kills in the scout helicopter.
Play on Canals, camp behind where the enemy helicopters spawn and just kill them as they are taking off.
Heat seekers are massively handy and this can be done as either team but best to be Russian as the US has 2 choppers to take down and anyone on the Flight deck is a sitting duck for gun runs.
If you find piloting hard I recommend changing your Heli Sticks to legacy and leaving the buttons default.

i'm a decent enough pilot, sometimes i stay alive whole game but it's kinda difficult to get kills still. So i'd just make sweeping runs until getting shot down. maybe if i had a good gunner who cud also spot enemies..

Trying different stick layouts will definitely help. I think I found lefty/southpaw to be the most intuitive.

Got my Air Warfare up today (still working on Transport) and I definately have to go with the Heli gunner as the easiest way to do it. If you can hook up with a good pilot and you have the Combat Optics unlocked you can pretty much pick off infantry at will.

Finally got air warfare last night as pilot in an attack chopper on Firestorm conquest only by fluke that two guys with no flares kept coming at me in the other attack chopper so two heat seekers blew them out of the sky :)
Have gotten loads of disables and kill assists but racking up the kills while dodging missile lock's was tough.

Jets were a non-runner for me, even with heat seekers its way harder to keep a lock than in a chopper.

Cannot get air warfare for the life of me. Got 5 kills in the jet last night and was tracking the sixth kill and he was about to go down and the match ended. Anyone a good helicopter pilot that wants to help me out?

Play Rush on 'Wake Island' on the attacking team. All the defenders tend to cluster around the m-coms due to the lack of real estate. Fly over and spam the spot button then just unload on 'em. Works great if your the gunner, should net you the ribbon if you do it all round.

Got it today at lvl 32, been trying since start, got it in a jet at karg rush defence. It's rather easy spotting those transports in the water and they only takes one to two trips to kill. And the choppers aren't that Hard to take out either.

Got this today using the DPV for the Transport Ribbon. Just kept getting roadkills and the achievement and ribbon popped.

I'd suggest trying to get your air kills done in a chopper vs. a jet for the purpose of the achievement. If you're hellbent on doing it in a jet for some reason play with a friend. Be support and throw down ammo before you hop in the jet. While you in the air have him waste bullets and resupply, those points will count towards ranking you up in the jet. You could also rent a server for a day and play with some friends and work on it.

Anybody know if I can just go into an empty server with a friend on the opposite team and have him stand in front of the chopper while I fire at him? Would be nice if that worked. God I am starting to hate this game.

I just got this yesterday; I was only missing the Air ribbon because I suck with the flying. Anyway, I got it via the gunship. Way easier if you have the big cannon also.

I confirm that the easiest method for getting the Air Warfare Ribbon is via a gunship from Armored Kill DLC.

You may want to include something about the Air Superiority mode in the End Game DLC. Having everyone consistently in Jet makes getting 5 kills really easier, especially on high tickets servers. Also, it's now 5 kills instead of 6.

I thought it was odd that while I was the gunner in a UH-1Y Venom and racking up kills I got a Transport warfare ribbon.. Is that correct, anyone else get this too? I was trying to get the air kills but it gave me a different ribbon.

I played a conquest game today and a friend of my was the pilot and me the gunner. I had 8 kills and no achievement. The kills will count as transport kills. So you have to do this one in a specific heli or F18

I was able to get the aircraft kills with the scout chopper on the canals conquest map. Just start out flying high and get above the enemies choppers. Once those are down buzz the docks, the boats are easy targets and guys will be in the open. Having the heat seekers helps a lot and may grab you a multi kill when downing choppers. Good luck.

I actually got the Air Warfare Ribbon on a rush map. I made a single pass at a hill in a Little Bird as a pilot and there happened to be like 6 enemies on top in a group. It was like a scene from Blackhawk Down haha.

I can not for the life of me get the aircraft kills. It takes FOREVER to get a jet kill and I can never communicate with my helicopter pilot to get a gunner kill. Maybe if people would use mics on a TEAMWORK based game everyones lives would be much easier.

some dude we were playing Rush against was ridiculous with it and had the dogtag that said 165 jet kills. Best bet is a chopper I'm guessing. I can get a few kills but having a hard time hitting 6 in a round

Just thought I would mention this here. I did some research and found this page, listing six total helis in the game. 2 Attack, 2 Transport, and 2 Scout. The UH-1Y is a transport one, so maybe you have to get the kills in the attack heli for the air warfare?

Jet kills are impossible now, I've just started playing the mp and want to get all the achievements, as I did in BF2. However, it is impossible as a noob to rank up in a jet as it's virtually impossible to get a kill. No sooner have I taken off than an enemy jet is on me which has ranked up and has heat seekers. I evade, fire my flares a couple of times, which I'm then out of. I manage 3, maybe 4 turns, then I'm shot down. I can't get a kill as I get killed as soon as I take off.

This is really bad for my team as

- My KD is the toilet dragging the team down
- I'm depriving someone else of using the jet who may have heat seekers and may be able to take down the other jet

I must have flown 100+ jets and not come near to a kill with the above happening every, and I mean every, time.

I read someone else moaning about ramming on another thread (though tbh this is bs as kamikaze is a legitimate, if expensive, tactic)

Can offer constructive advice how to get those first precious kills to rank up.

for me the easiest/safest way to get the Air Warfare Ribbon is by playing conquest in Kharg Island, your team should be the one that spawn on carrier/shore, pick your chopper and go to enemy base and place your chopper behind where chopper/jets spawn and just wait for someone to enter in one of them to shoot him down. You can land your chopper behind jets if you want and AA gun can't hit you

i must say i HATE this but it was the only way i could get it as im proppa shit on helos and jets! so i did it once and once only! now i can go and enjoy the game gunning! :)

That method you propose is a spawn killing which is not allowed on most of the servers and as such may result in a kick/ban from that server.

Every time I go anywhere near the enemy base it says I'm out of the combat zone and counts down to my death. Have they patched it so you can't do things like this anymore?

Sorry, my bad - seems this would still work and it was just me going too wide or too far down trying to turn the stupid heli (I can't fly the damn things!). You can still land behind their choppers :) Great solution if you can get the right lobby to pull it off in.

IF you have the End Game DLC then Air supiriority is the best way, you should have no problem getting the Air warfare ribbon, if you dont have the End Game DLC then play Karg Island...not only are there vehicles on both sides of the teams...but each side has jets as well..hope this helped
