Hullo!

NOTE: You only have to do the final act of each story on hardcore for the achievement, you don't necessarily necessarily need to complete the full game altogether. Thanks to various commenters for pointing this out.

Where to begin.. The battlefield V campaign / selection of war stories is not long, at all. I don't have an overall walkthrough so much as I do have just general tips and tidbits that I've learnt while doing it. Overall the campaign isn't too hard, the most challenging part is just annoying objectives and enemies that are accurate enough they should be in the SAS. The achievements are thankfully stackable so completing the campaign on Hardcore will give you the achievements for Medium and Hard as well.

General tips will be tucked behind a spoiler tag for now until more people get their hands on the game. The guide will hopefully serve as a general overview now and may be changed upon request for more or less information. I did the guide for Battlefield 1 on hard and looking back at it it felt severely lacking so I wanted to help a little bit more this time around. Please do comment if there's something I missed, something you found that worked better, it's all useful information.

I will most definitely be coming back over the next couple days to try and tidy up or consolidate. Please excuse the crappy humour, tired as hell writing this but I was excited to finish the campaign and write a guide that I hoped would help.

Edit #1: Thanks to Triple Triad777 and P00R GRENDEL for noting that it is possible you may need to resume/restart the very last bit of Under No Flag for the achievement to pop. They have both reported that hitting resume on that particular war story and finishing it off will pop the achievement. Apologies for not bringing this up sooner, I didn't have this issue so I was hoping the achievement was working fine. :(

General Tips:
1) Flank: If you see an opportunity to avoid enemies by going around them and moving onto your objective, absolutely do it. There's no brownie points or participation awards going out to Nazi killers today. Many maps you will find opportunities to flank. The first mission of Under No Flag is a big open map, The second mission for Nordlys is an even bigger open map. Most missions in the Tirailleur are very linear but offer huge opportunities to take a side path around the enemy and shoot them from the sides.
2) Stealth: You channel whatever Ninja Kung Fu master you need to but as it traditionally is for most shooters on harder difficulties, don't bother starting a firefight if there's a tonne of enemies, take your time! There's no monster closets that I know of so once they're dead, they ded.
3) Supply Stations: Probably the most important one depending on the mission, keep an eye out for the supply stations or weapon drops throughout the map. In the Nordlys mission there's a Bren chilling out near one of the objectives you go to, much better than holding the fort in close quarters with a bolt action rifle eh? If not you may find sticky charges or panzerfausts and let me tell you, they. are. invaluable.

War Story #1: Under No Flag:
Section #1: So this bit is quite short and mostly left up to your discretion as to how you want to handle it, there aren't many enemies meaning you can more or less head straight to the hangar as you as you have control of your character, though I will mention to make sure to pick up the internally silenced rifle you find early on. Grab some easy headshots and you'll be golden. If you're wondering where the hangar is it'll be approximately to your 11 o'clock if you're looking from where you start, pretty hard to miss. As soon as you make it to the hangar all enemies will stop chasing you because you'll be moving onto the next section, make it to the AA to shoot down the planes and you're done (I ran towards the right down the runway and a path opened up in the fence for me to grab the AA on the hill.

Section #2: Quite a straight forward mission, three spots to go to. I went to the airfield first, village second and bunker last. You can take out the first objective at the airfield with the silenced rifle and the second objective where the bombs are with a well placed grenade so clearly whoever is in charge of munitions storage needs to be shot. The radar dishes at the village can be taken out by a single shot each from a panzerfaust (they just don't make 'em like they used to) you can find I believe either at the start or on your way to the airfield. Last but not least clean up some troops around the bunker and sprint in, you will still have aggro once you come out of the cutscene but they shouldn't be hard to kill, grab the jeep and take it back to the start to complete the mission.

Section #3: Probably the most annoying mission in the game. I HATE defend missions. This one is a bit hard to give tips for as they more or less just throw a tonne of weapons at you and tell you to hold out until help arrives. The final wave consists of two panzers and two trucks. I had to use the Pak .80 emplacement to kill the panzers but you could be more patient and do it another way.

War Story #2: Nordlys
Section #1: Bit of a long section this time but nothing too crazy, you have to follow an extremely linear path to make it to a factory where you'll meet up with mumma dearest and do some cheeky resistance type stuff. How you get there depends on your patience, you can either kill at the camps along your way (there are only handfuls of guards) or you can kill a couple and skate most of the way (which I tend to do from sheer laziness). Once at the factory it's all simple stuff, kill I believe two-three packs of guards and then do some more blowy up stuff. Once that's done do yourself a favour and just skate back to the starting bridge, I died once and it was because my dumbass went sailing off a cliff. Cutscenes will ensue and you'll be tasked with getting to a drop off point while freezing your ass off. Long story short, use your throwing knives and warm up at the smaller camps and you'll be fine, I think I stopped at two camps along the way, don't try the bigger ones, you'll just alert every man and his dog and get shot in the ass.

Section #2: Very similar to the second section from the first war story (must've been running low on budget). I'll keep it simple, at the abandoned mill thingo at the start you'll find a PIAT, basically an OG RPG with an arc so steep that it'd make McDonalds jealous. Fire a rocket at the truck and get on your zoomies and head down to the docks, make sure to grab some Stickies when you see them, you'll need some. When at the docks, head along the road to the right and you'll spot an opening in the fence, you can take the path around the docks, putting some knives into Nazi's Blazkowicz style, throw a wee sticky on ground in the truck room. Jump onto the ice and climb up the ladder near the front of Boaty McBoatFace and throw another sticky down into the objective, hop down onto the ice and before you zoom away detonate them. Head to the vilage, if you head straight from the boat you'll arrive just left of the police station, knife the two guards, do some arsoning in the police station and zoom away to the final bunker. Kill the 6 odd dudes out the front of the bunker (take your time) and you'll get a cutscene. After the cutscene feel free to die once you catch up to the trucks, it'll spawn you close and on your Harley Davidson. Blow up the three trucks and kill the handful of dudes at the depot and you're done!

War Story #3: Tirailleur
Section #1: Most of this war story is a haze to me sadly due to doing it at 3am and it all looking the same. In essence if there's one thing I can tell you about this War Story it's Get a sniper and FLANK. Most of the time flanking will pull you out in a position that lets you overlook your enemies and forces your teammates to move up. You can do this with the big hill you need to take and hold, you can do it with any bunkers you need to capture and so on. The map is extremely wide (like half of the mothers of people on Xbox.) The conquest style objectives are frustrating as all buggery but just hug a wall and pop enemies where you can and eventually your teammates will form a singular brain cell and help.

Section #2: Mostly the same deal. Flank, shoot, repeat. Stealth where you can. I'm not sure if where and when you pop the flare for reinforcements matters but I got spotted immediately so I popped it. Take out the objectives in town and begin your ascent up the hill. On the right side of the hill as you approach there is a rise you can go up and drop down. It serves okay as a sniping point from which you can drop down right next to some ammo and the objective. Same as before, wait for your teammates to figure out the equation and move on. In the next part I just legged it up the hill, you may want to kill folks if you're getting murdered because it's easy to get stuck up there. There are a couple spots for Panzerfausts throughout the mission so you can use them on the Artillery tanks, you won't need them later really. At the top of the hill you'll be faced with a handful of elite troopers. Just take your time, they're slow so use explosives or w/e else you might want to send them to hell. Once you breach the door and do some slow-mo shooting you're all done.

They most certainly are stackable! Completing it on Hardcore will net you the Medium and Hard difficulty achievements. Sorry for failing to mention that in the beginning, will update it now.

I was in the exact same boat mate. I played the hell out of RDR2 at the start. Need to go back to it but 100% and Gold medals drove me mental so it was nice to head into some Battlefield and take a break from it. :)

Hi Kiwi. I am having big trouble with Tirailleur section 2 on Hardcore. I am on the objective where you need to capture the Western Bastion. The objective bar needs to fill up completely blue to finish the the objective. The enemies are spawning infinitely and I can't kill them quickly enough on my own for the bar to fill up. As more enemies spawn the bar goes red again. They kill me in 2-3 hits. The AI trammates are useless.and aren't helping me at all. Had to give up and switch to multiplayer as this part seems impossible on Hardcore.

I've watched several streams but all of them seem to be doing it the same way I did. Sitting besides the small hill next to the bunker on the right using a bolt action and the MG you find on the supply station next to the bunker. I'm not sure if there's a certain requirement or criteria to make your AI teammates help because all the streams show the support arriving after different periods of time. Just try and take your time and snipe the enemies (ESPECIALLY the guy on the mounted gun in the bunker on the far left). Sorry if I knew of a better way to do it I'd let you know.

I managed to do it after about 20 tries using the hill method. Just tried to pick off a few enemies with the sniper and then switched to the Bren machine gun. After a while my teammates decided to move up and capture the point. The rest of the mission was smooth sailing. Thanks for the tips Kiwi!

One tip - I found using a sniper from distance being quite a useful option as the AI will often just stand in the open and allow you to take those Nazi scalps.

Most definitely. You can kinda get away with it in the first two missions but having and using a sniper in Tiralleur is invaluable. The sightlines are super long as are the engagements.

Damn straight. The Nordlys and Under No Flag you were mostly by yourself anyway but with Tiralleur you may as well have been. I've seen some dumb AI over the years but those ones were pretty high up there.

Just managed the hill scene. Actually you need to get to the left bunker after clearing the area from the right one. Just wait for a small chance to get over there and kill the rest of the enemies until you capture the point, shouldn't be too long from there.

Hmm, good idea. I did initially try running over to that bunker I just found there wasn't much cover and I was getting rushed while receiving no support so I ended up just staying on the right. I'm glad you figured out a way that worked for you though. It's an awkward section. :D

For the tirailleur section where you have to capture the hill in the last level, once I destroyed both anti tank guns and killed both sentry gunners my teammates started going up the hill. Had to kill a few more nazi to protect them but that's how I got it done after 20 + tries.

Tanks are not a problem, you can hide and get panzerfaust shots or whatever.
It’s the planes, how anyone can do this on hardcore is beyond me..

I can’t see a was to drop down a difficulty from the menu, assuming there’s no way? Would like to just get the Medium one and come back to this..

I haven't seen a way as of yet. I think the only part about the tanks that bothered me was that every time I died with a panzerfaust I would spawn with a random kit and would have to use the pak emplacements.

But yeah the planes were annoying as hell. Sometimes I felt it was purely RNG as to whether I could get them in time. Often getting dive bombed by two at once. The mission in general is just painful because you don't exactly have the luxury of taking your time and picking people off like you do for the rest of the campaign.

for capturing the hill i ended sticking left hiding behind this almost out of bounds rock. then i could run left out of bounds if a nade or mortar came..continued picking them kff then moved forward while shooting flares..wasnt too bad..easier than right side imo

Few things that helped me in the defense part of the first story:
When you aren't dealing with the rocket trucks or planes sit in the corner behind where the guns are on the other side of the wall from the ammo box. Most of the enemies will come from your left and be easily taken down or Mason will shoot them himself. There's also a panzerschreck spawn on a box next to the mounted MG under Mason's tower that makes mincemeat of the tanks.

Worth noting that any section that has a "remain undetected" challenge has guides on youtube that make it much easier to complete some sections. Like the solution says, the easiest method of getting through hardcore is not fighting :p

I was having a problem with the last part of the first story, Onslaught, when the waves of troops and tanks come. I would sit in the AA gun in the back of the map and pick off the troops as they approached. Most came thru the ruins by the fallen column and 1 or 2 came around the other side. Once I did this method, took me one try.

The buggiest campaign I've ever played, for the majority of the Norwegian missions and a good chunk of the French ones the German's would not shoot me (which made it infinitely easier haha), the 2nd Norwegian mission would not finish without resetting my Xbox too.

Had a glitch where this didn't unlock but the other two difficulties did unlock. Tried all the tips above and it didn't work. Incase anyone else experiences this, give it 24 hours as mine did eventually pop!

Thank u and everyone for the tips..i've done it today.. it was a pain in the ass and the achievements for hard and hardcore difficulties sadly didnt unlock..i will wait 24 hours but Ive already tried to reboot the console, delete the save, watched every last part of the missions.. i am not in the mood to do it all again lol

One of the strangest glitch/tracking issues I’ve ever come across! Thank you for anyone who has commented their issues and how to fix them! I had the same problem, Nordlys didn’t register on the achievement tracker and I resumed Under No Flag and it unlocked!

Nordlys did not track for me either. I tried resuming under no flag several times but that didn't work. I then tried resuming tiralleur and that popped it even though I know for a fact tiralleur tracked properly.

I've completed the campaign twice on fanatic but the achievement doesn't pop.

Yea I just got mine a few minutes ago. After I finished all of them I just "resumed" Under No Flag and watched the ending cutscene again. For those of you that are doing Nordlys there are a LOT of times where you can skip all the combat and get into a cutscene, You should take those chances. For example when you start you can just be stealthy enough to not get spotted and skip it all.

Ooooookay. I just hit resume on the campaign select screen and it played the Under No Flag ending again. After it rolled, the achievements popped. Weird.

Its glitched for me as well. Checked dog tags, all are complete. Even redid the Tirailleur mission thinking that was the problem. Replayed the ending of Under No Flag (just the ending cutscene) and it unlocked for me. Might include this in the solution so others don’t feel like they need to replay entire war stories. Thanks!

Sorry to hear that mate. I'm assuming that's the one you capture after taking out the german forces in town? If so yeah that capture point is one of the worst points in the game on Hardcore. I think it took me a solid 10-15 tries to finish that spot. I basically just tucked myself behind the small hill on the right and tried to kill one or two enemies as they came in. You are right though, the AI on your team is especially useless at both killing enemies and capturing the point. I'll go take a look online and see if there are any tips that might help and then either update the guide or DM you when I do.

Also during the nordlys story section 2, i ran out of ammo/crap weapons after chasing the trucks across the ice. You can turn back and not only stock up on the sniper rifle in the watchtower (if you didnt previously pick it up) but also you can jump on one of the pak guns (anti tank cannons) outside the bunk and launch shells across the frozen lake and take the trucks out from range without having to engage the enemy and risk dying on hardcore.
Then just drive to the marker , flank around as enemies will still be alive and as soon as you reach the marker, even with enemies shooting at me the end cutscene started.

Makes the final section alot easier and pretty impossible to get shot.

Last level wasn't that bad IMO. The sneaky part between capture sections gave me more trouble than capturing the hill. Run back to town and fill up on rockets and take out the canons and the AI moves up just fine. I went up on the left side and cleared that bunker and could just stay safe and clear enemies while it was captured.

As for the glitch, Under No Flag got stuck loading after I completed it and had to quit the game to continue. Resuming that story popped everything.

Today I've done it. What happened? I've started this game a while ago and finished the first mission and started the second..both on normal...i didnt finished the second mission...last week I've started the 1st on hardcore and finished it..then I've continued the second mission but it was on normal,not on hardcore...that was my mistake...thank u anyway, mate )

Onslaught on hardcore is pretty easy if you’re smart about: for the first few waves I ran and just used the artillery gun on the right to pick off enemy troops & carriers from afar. Then when the first plane fight comes run to one of the aa guns and quickly kill them then return to the artillery gun & continue killing enemies till the second plane fight, now this one gave me trouble as I kept getting waxed by the ground guys so I grabbed an artillery gun and killed the ground guys, now the strange part about this is the planes hit me once then after the ground forces were dead the planes vanished. I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or what but I chose to ignore them in favor of the ground forces & they disappeared. The final part is tricky, I tried using the artillery guns to kill the tanks but there shots are to accurate and did to much damage to me so I grabbed the rocket launcher (I forgot what it’s called) and ran to where the tanks spawned and killed off the transport trucks then ran back got ammo and kept nailing the tanks with the rocket & went back for ammo as needed. Hope this strategy helps anyone that’s stuck on the hardcore onslaught mission.

Had a buggy time whit this since the progression was stuck on 66%(nordlys didn't count toward percentage). I replayed the whole nordlys campaign on hardcore very times. Hopefully I selected resume on every story and watch the ending again(was sure the last chapter was settled on hardcore). Popped after the ending of "Under no flag" in my case.

So, I actually found an exploit for this trophy. Something I want to mention though. This trophy is glitched. Something I've learned with Dice for BF1 & BF5 is after a patch, trophies are likely to glitch. So as long as you're going for this and get it before the next patch you should be fine. I say "should be" because I honestly don't trust Dice with their patches. And the trophy still can glitch.

This difficulty mode is no joke and can really punish you if you're reckless. Most enemies will spot you very quickly if you're trying to sneak and they have a tendency to flank or push up to you, which when you can die in 2-3 shots makes it very difficult indeed. However, it's still A.I. and it's still largely quite dumb and can be somewhat exploited in various situations.

General tips for Hardcore;

Stealth. Use stealth whenever and wherever possible. It's not always an option; sometimes the mission will be an attack with allies so of course stealth won't be possible but when you're on your own you want to stay out of combat as much as possible.
If you are spotted or are in a fight and feel you're surrounded/outnumbered, run. The maps are huge and you can run away from a lot of the fights in this game for about 10-20 seconds and all the enemies that were attacking you will lose interest. You must break line of sight with the enemies and they will eventually either return to where they were, or in some cases just stand still in the last place they were when they stopped chasing you. These make for easy stealth kills so exploit this as much as possible by separating enemies then picking the stragglers off.
Push the objective/force checkpoint. There were times were after numerous failed attempts I eventually just sprinted towards the objective to force the checkpoint. Doing this is a good way to break through a plateau when you get stuck. It's fine to know you're likely to die doing this but if you manage to reach/complete an objective then die, your checkpoint will be after that objective so you can move on. It doesn't always work because some objectives come in 2's and need to be done together, but by and large it will help you get passed some of the harder parts.

Other than these general tips, I will detail in each War Stories' achievement description the respective tips that are pertinent to each one.

Complete all 3 war stories on Hardcore. This will unlock Storyteller, Veteran and Sins of the fathers. Plus each stories specific trophies. If these trophies do not unlock, select resume on all 3 stories and rewatch the last cutscenes and the trophy will pop. - Enemies with the ammo logo above their head will have a rocket launcher so if you see these make sure you take them down first and fast.

- Health will recover so if you get hit just try your best to hide and recover. Keep in mind that enemies will come to find you and call in reinforcements.

- Good thing to note is that when there are multiple objectives it will not have a checkpoint until they are all destroyed.
