Just start up a local with two controllers and play a "classic" game of Battleship. Classic rules are like the board game. Each player guesses one spot at a time.
To get this the quickest way possible place your ships down quick where the game puts them then line up the 2nd players ships top to bottom in 1st column starting with Carrier 5, Destroyer 3 and Patrol Boat 2. Top to bottom in 2nd column Battleship 4 and Submarine 3. This way you won't accidentally miss on a random placement.
Exchange hits starting in the upper left hand corner going down the 1st column then top of 2nd column down. 17/17 hits will get you this achievement in a couple minutes.

Start a new "vs" game and select to play with Classic Rules (right option). Play through the game and regardless of if you win or lose, the trophy will pop after you finish it.

"Classic Rules" is simply a game mode that removes the option to use special abilities. This can be easily boosted with a second controller. Simply start a 2-player match and group the second controller's ships together. Then blast them away while you skip their turn. This achievement can be unlocked at the same time as "Baptism by fire" and "Get Together."
