How to unlock the Fire The Afterburners achievement in Bayonetta - Definitive Guide
The other guide is an excellent way to get this achievement on Normal or higher difficulty. However, for those that are still having trouble with it, change the difficulty from the Chapter Menu with RB to Very Easy.
Next you can put Scarborough Fair on your hands in order to make the fights on the missiles last a bit longer, garnering you a better combo score. Most importantly, use lollipops! Specifically the yellow ones. This will not affect Verse medals. I even used red lollipops for the boss angels just to get them down quicker.
Hopefully this helps those who sucked at Space Harrier when they were kids (like I did).

It would be very helpful if you play Angel Attack before starting the chapter to earn a Golden Moon Pearl. This will make two of your magic orbs automatically recharge, which in this chapter equates to two rechargeable missiles. The Eternal Testimony accessory has the same effect and stacks with the Moon Pearl, resulting in 4 rechargeable missiles.
There are two 'normal' fights in this chapter. This is where you want to boost your score, so try to start them with a torture attack and use the angel arm, in witch time, to finish off the rest.
If you do well in verse 1 but take a lot of damage in verse 2, quit to title screen then select continue. This will re-load you to the beginning of verse 2.
To avoid damage, manoeuvre around the screen in a large circle rather than use the dodge button. You can't shoot while dodging and it can become disorienting if you do it too much. The exception is when an enemy shoots a flame ball at you - these are the only attacks that will activate witch time when dodged, so save your dodging for these.

If you suck at Space Harrier and have no intention of getting gud at it, this achievement isn't too hard to cheese. Spamming dodge over and over makes you effectively invincible, so any enemy formation or attack pattern giving you grief can be side-stepped in this manner as long as it won't give you motion sickness. Pool your magic, and then dump a fat missile load on the faces of the bosses. The angel enemies you fight on the rocket that attack once each verse are relatively weak and easy to dispatch with big wicked weaves hitting them simultaneously, so these guys should be milked for combo points by enraging them in my opinion.
The final boss, the Temperance, should be shot at with missiles while he charges his laser because he takes more damage during this time.
Finally, remember you only need to achieve a Platinum medal, not a PURE Platinum medal..

You forgot the most important part of the strategy: Eat tons of Yellow Lollipops.
They don't affect your medals, so just walk through the stage in total invincibility.

This one is a bit of a pain on normal, so change the difficulty to "very easy". The key is not getting hit and you don't need a pure platinum medal in both Verses, a platinum is enough. Here another video how to do it.
Best be done on the lowest difficulty setting as enemies don't shoot as often there as on Normal or higher. The Key is to only get hit 2-3 Times per Verse to get the desired Medal. If you're still having trouble, feel free to use the Yellow Lollipops, as they grant you invincibility for a set amount of time depending on the one you used. Also note that you can shoot large missiles at the opponent for every circle on your magic gauge which will be very useful against the bosses.
