This can be done as soon as you land on the island. Just press LT to bring up the camera, then press Y for selfie mode, and finally press A to take a selfie. If it's your first photo, you also unlock another achievement.

I did aspiring photographer and invasive species almost together. Feels good when such cheevos are awarded 50 and not 5G.
