How to unlock the 100 Hours Playtime achievement in Beautiful Katamari - Definitive Guide
You can use a wired controller. However, you can also use a wireless controller. Just be in the princedom and let the the wireless controller go to sleep- the game will not pause and game time will continue. Once the time requirement has been met, you will need to complete a level for it to register the achievement (just complete an egg school).

for the love of all that is holy, if you have poor ventilation for your xbox, do not do this as you will risk frying it leading to the red ring of death. I'd hope that would be self explanatory, though.

Just curious, is there any way to check one's progress on this—his "hours played"?

Aside from actually playing the game (which you'll get most of this time when going for the 100/200 requests and 100% completion), you can just turn your controller off and leave the game running while you sit in the Princedom. The game does not pause in this area and the clock will run. If you are paranoid that this method won't work, use a wired controller or play and charge kit, then enter a stage in Eternal Mode and let it sit that way. It does pause if the controller turns off in this area, so make sure your cord doesn't fall out.
