How to unlock the Short Distance Hotshot achievement in Beijing 2008 - Definitive Guide
Try and get a perfect start as this will max your speed bar straight away (if you try for the achievement in practice mode it won't matter if you false start). It's then just a matter of maintaining your speed for the whole 20 seconds.
No olympic mode available for this apparently :(
This video may help although he's not quite quick enough...

There is one thing that is not practically true about your solution; the 200m (Men) cannot be played in Olympic Mode, making the option of using the slo-mo for the achievement not available.

19.20 - long time to waggle. Lots of false starts. Training.

This is the final achievement I need, it is a right pain to do so I'm going to post everything I know which will help unlock this achievement.
Which mode to play
There is a slight advantage in unlocking this achievement by playing online, I believe the lag helps in terms of getting a better start, which helps a lot in terms of getting an advantage in breaking the world record. The disadvantage of playing online, the game cannot be paused. This is a hindrance if struggling to keep the power maxed out for the full length of the race
How do I get a great start?
In order to get a great start, hold Left Trigger until it literally flirts on the red part of the power bar, release the Left Trigger and let the power go all the way to the bottom of the bar. Once at the bottom of the power bar, immediately hold Left Trigger and this should get a brilliant start each time if executed perfectly. Building power using A+B or Waggling an analogue stick also helps to get a good start. This will also work on the other events, such as the swimming. Practice this to perfection using training mode.
Methods of gaining power
In terms of finding a method to gain speed, try the different techniques used in this video:
Personally, in the 200m I use a guitar slide and rub it back and forth over the A+B buttons. In the 100m I waggle the thumbstick, but I think rubbing the A+B buttons can work.
Pausing the game can help to rebuild momentum, just make sure to build power whilst pressing start to pause. All it takes to miss out on this achievement is a slight slip which can cost precious hundreth's/tenth's of a second. The current world record on the leaderboards for the 200m is 19.13, 19.20 is the target for the achievement, this gives an idea of how perfect this run has to be to get that achievement popped.
I have read different theories on using a turbo controller, some people complaining that it doesn't work, others claiming that it does. I personally do not have one, but I have read that if A or B (not A and B) are turboed, mashing the button which isn't turboed can work. However, I cannot confirm this.
Another method I am interested in trying is having two different people, one mashing A and the other mashing B and seeing how this would work as a form of building/holding power to max.
In terms of doing the 100m, make sure you use olympic games mode to your advantage, slowing time can make a huge difference.
