Power Gems are created when 4 jewels of the same color are lined up in a row. Through normal gameplay and Endless Mode, you should easily receive this by the end of the 280 levels needed for that achievement.

I was keeping an eye on how many I had on the leaderboards and it seems to have reset on me.

you can also get power gems with a cross with a double 3 corner wit a double cross and many many more ;)

As mentioned in the other solution a power gem is when 4 gems of the same colour are aligned to produce a "glowing" gem of the same colour which explodes when matched up with other gems.
No two ways about it, this solution is a massive grind. You'll easily have it before finishing endless mode (I'm level 159 in that and just got this achievement). I'm well into hundreds of hours in this game spread over a few years, to give you an idea of the time committment.
One thing to note as well is the achievement doesn't pop when you get the 10,000th power gem, but rather after you get the 10,000th gem, and then quit & save back to the main menu.

If you play this on a reqular basis there is no reason why you won't get this eventually. If you are going for the Endless mode achievement, it helps towards the count a lot. You'll probably receive this achievement when you least expect it.
