Once you die, go back to where you died and collect your lantern again, the achievement will pop shortly after.

If you die, then die again before finding your corpse, then this method won't work. Your recent corpse won't have your lantern.

If you died twice before reaching your original death location your lantern will still remain at the original location, try to get back to where you died the first time and pick the lantern up.

I can confirm what G1nge has said is correct. Let's say you die on Level 6 with your lantern. Then when you restart, let's say you goof up and die to a trap on Level 2. Your lantern will still be on Level 6. When you restart for the second time and you get back to Level 6, press the Back (double square button) to open the mini-map. Your lantern will appear as a glowing node. Simply head over there and press A to pick it back up.
