Getting gold is not very difficult but sometimes it takes a few tries.
When you get this achievement you should also unlock "Codon Infusion" for unlocking all the characters.
Helpful tips
Drift (left trigger) a lot because this charges your Defensive Power which you trigger by pressing B an this protects you from any attacks. This is especially handy to have if you are in the #1 or #2 spot and it is the last lap because the bots tend to activate a vine attack in front of you right before the finish line.
If you find yourself struggling try a different character sometimes it helps.
Keep in mind you don't have to get first every race as long as you have the most points at the end of the tournament or if you tie for 1st place it always gives the victory and a gold medal to you.
On the harder levels try to learn to the shortcuts. Watch the bots to see where they go and pay attention to the switches on the shortcuts(on sum of the shortcuts like the invisible bridge the bots will shut it off and you will falls to your death)
You can shoot your projectile attacks behind you by pressing back on the left thumbstick then firing them
When you jump do tricks with the right stick to build up your attack meter and when it is full press X to fire a powerful attack very useful for getting the upper hand on the last lap. If you are close to the finish line and not in first it never hurts to just shoot it and see what happens it doesn't go away after hitting one kart so you have the potential to knock out every other racer.
