How to unlock the Emperor's Glory achievement in Ben-Hur - Definitive Guide

Wraithrock's solution helped point how to know when you are the one making the kill, but how to get those kills needed a bit more detail. After playing through the whole game (Just 3 races) these are the ways that I know how to take out your enemies.

**For those having trouble with the first race (2 laps): Try to grind someone out into the wall right at the start of the race, then make sure you keep going for grind kills. Tap A just to get enough of a lead to line up your cart against their horses and pin them into that wall. If you don't kill them on the first try, line yourself up again and either whip them to death if they have low health or go in for another grind. You don't have a whole lot of time, but I was able to take out 3 in the first lap and the other 2 in the second. Keep at it!**

Destroying an enemy chariot can be done in multiple ways :

Whip attacks: Using the left and right triggers, try to aim for the enemy chariot's horses for maximum damage. Will take many hits to take out your enemy, so best used when enemy's health is about half or lower.

Grinding: Gain a lead on your enemy and try to pin your chariot against their horses so the enemy has no choice by to ride the walls. This grinds down enemy health bars quickly and is my personal favorite choice in ease and effectiveness.

Wall Crash*: Steer your enemy to drive his chariot straight into a wall. Easiest done during turns and usually done by grinding into them so they have no choice but to take that momentum straight into the wall. This must be a head-on collision with the wall, as it might not work if he is angled too much to the side. This can instantly kill an opponent if done correctly, but is very risky. Not only do you have a chance of crashing yourself but you also can lose a lot of ground during the race if you don't correct your steering immediately after. I recommend pulling back on the left stick just as your opponent crashes to avoid crashing yourself.

Obstacles*: There are piles of debris and statues placed throughout the track, and if an enemy chariot's health is low enough, a quick bump into one can easily take them out. The bigger the obstacle, the more damage they take. This is trickier to do, but it is a way of going about getting your kills.

*Both Wall Crashes and Obstacle Kills can sometimes not give you credit for the kill. Always make sure that your cart has the yellow arrows pointed down onto it in the slow motion camera after a take down to make sure you received credit! (Notice added on Soundgoodizer's request.)

This game is simple by design, as such it follows pretty simple rules. If you are behind an enemy chariot, and it bumps into you, you will take most if not all of the damage, so always make sure you have the lead on your opponent before trying to go in for an attack. Don't be afraid to tap the A button to get that small lead, just don't go into a mad dash because the AI will try to keep up and you might end up rushing the race.

What an asshole of an achievement. Took about 30-40 minutes of frustration but eventually got it.

@hoog Great tip! I had gone through this 3 times already and kept getting 4 on either the 2nd or 3rd race, this made it super easy to track and knock out.

Just another thought. You'll at least know at the end of the first two races if you have the 5 eliminations. It'll suck to have to reset, but better than going through all three without knowing.

Definitely has to be done in one season. Tried it several times and can't do it over two. I made sure I had the yellow arrow over me with all the kills happening behind me and took it slow with not much pressing A. Made sure all three events said 5 kills at the end. A bit frustrating until you get the hang of it. Not a very inviting game to go watch the movie laugh

Got it myself. Just double check for yellow arrows when you take down your opponents, always check to see if you had 5 of them slain, and try to do it in one playthrough.

@RestlessSpirit5 I was the 20th to complete the game on TA, so I assure you it is obtainable.

@Loko6264 I did it in one "season" which is just the 3 races. Wraithrock gave good tips on how to make sure you are the one getting credited for the kills, and if you know you missed a kill, just losing the race gives you the option to retry that specific race.

Can confirm that you don't have to do this all in 1 season. First play through on race 3 I managed to destroy everyone. 2nd play through I destroyed everyone on the 1st and 2nd race after the 2nd race the achievement unlocked for me. The achievement says every race OF a season so this confirms that you can do this on multiple seasons.

Also you might want to add that Wall Crashes and Obstacles can be a bit finicky as I would say most of the time the game doesn't recognize them as your kill, even if you get the slow motion camera for it. Because of that I often just restarted if I saw an enemy crash into something and die unless I was absolutely certain that I pushed them into it.

By Soundgoodizer on 09 Aug 2016 20:44
@Soundgoodizer I noticed that mainly happened when there was a good amount of time between contact with enemy and their crash. It wasn't something that happened regularly when I played, so I didn't think to add a disclaimer.

They always push past me when I'm ramming them into the wall, so then not only do I not kill them, but then they end up in front of me and damaging me. I don't know how you can pin them against the wall without them pushing past.

By erod550 on 09 Aug 2016 22:28
@erod550 They will "break out" of your pins, that's natural. If they do that, just tap the A button a few times to get a bit of a lead on them again and then try for another pin. Remember to line up your cart with the horses.

The first race is the hardest since you only have 2 laps to get the job done. Make sure the results screen says "enemies slain: 5" before moving on to the 2nd race. The other 2 races, since I had more time, I would sandbag at the back a little and take my time doing damage. Scuttle yourself into a wall immediately if you either don't see your arrow in the kill cam or if the # of opponents changes without you getting a kill, this usually means either the opponent got the kill or that racer suicided.

I definitely did it in two different sessions. In my first season, I didn't get either of the first two races, but got all enemies slain on the third. Then I went back into a second season and got all the enemies in the first two races, and the achievement popped.

It seems to be pretty inconsistent from everyone's different observations. But I know I definitely needed to do it in one session to get it to pop. I would say when you are going for it, go for it under the impression that it needs to be done in one season, even though that doesn't seem to be the case for everyone.

I just hung back and took out whoever was in the back of the pack with me. Let the leaders damage each other and then I came up and destroyed them. If you don't get the kill (kill-cam), throw yourself into the wall to restart the current race. If the race ends by crossing the finish line and you are not first you can reset the race also, just take your time.

By Bar6arian on 10 Aug 2016 03:08
My advice is to stay in the back. Overtake the 2nd to last person just a little bit so that you can ram your horses into their front horses and 'grind' against them while whipping, and don't press A unless you need to speed up a little.

If you run low on health, drop back and wait for the health pick ups. There will be plenty and you don't need to rush. The focus of the game isn't really winning like in a car race, but to defeat every opponent during the race.

Agreed with Bar6arian & DarqStalker. Slow and steady wins the achievement (race is pointless). Pressing back on the left joystick is very useful. Just slowed down in front of the guy that is at the back of the pack and grind/whip his health away. Continue til everyone is dead. 1st race is hardest cause you gotta do it in 2 laps otherwise reset.

5 slow motions = 4 killed
5 times the arrows = 3 killed

Slowmo and arrows are NO indicators! You just have to get lucky that every kill counts.

Something that helped me figure out how many I killed was go to the Game Hub and then the achievements tab and take notice of how many I have killed, then when there was only one person left I would check the hub again to make sure that I had gotten credit for all four kills then take out the last guy

I had issues with it too. My belief is that, even if it credits you with the kill, it's doesn't net you the kill unless you were directly involved. Granted mine popped after getting my last two guys to crash into the wall. Also, a useful tip is that you pull back on the reigns for your chariot. This makes gives you better control when turning. In addition, you can utilize it to pin someone against the wall. It helped me a great deal when I learned this.

Now, what I found to be the most effective on the second and third races is to hold back and focus on the guy that's directly in front of you. This way you can minimize any damage done to you. Because as I'm sure you're aware, when you're at the front/mid of the pack it's chaotic. Best of luck!

One thing that really helped me getting the kills is singling out one rider. Separate them from the pack. Pin them against the wall. If you hold Back on the thumbstick you can actually slow down so that he never gets away.

Was struggling a bit at first, but the trick is definitely pinning them against a wall making sure you are slightly ahead with your wheel hitting the horses (using the whip as well.) Always take out the last guy and move up to prevent accidents and damage to your chariot. If you are in the middle they move around more and wind up killing themselves so you don't get credit.

Can't confirm, but the victory screen says enemies slain 5, but unsure if this is enemies dead or enemies killed by you. This would allow you to track which of the 3 races you possibly missed killing all 5 on.

Nice solution. However (even thou I read your solution after unlocking this achievement) it would be nice that you CLARIFY what a SEASON is so others won't be confused. I thought that a season would be like a weekly event. What confused me a bit more was the fact that at the main menu you'll see the title Ben-Hur with a "in 5 days" counter underneath the title.

A "season" is basically all three races (for those of us who might get confused as to what is a season in this game).

Hey, I'm a Titanfall player, so I interpret seasons a bit different.. lol.

The secret to this is to slow down before the turns. The bots will take the corners wide. Slow down at the corner, then spam A and cut diagonally into their horses. Easy takedowns and I just maxed this game in 30 minutes

I'm convinced this achievement is glitched. 5 times now I've gone:

Race 1: 5 kills
Race 2: 5 kills
Race 3: 4 kills

Each time in race 3, I see the killcam with the arrow pointed at me. For all 5 kills, yet it only credits me with 4. I keep a close count, count down the killcams, that way if someone gets killed and I didn't get credit for it, I can purposely crash and restart the race. 5 different times now, I've counted down the kills, gotten all 5 killcams, and it still only credits me for 4. Complete and utter BS.

It seems that it is just "3 different races in a row". If you don't kill everyone on races 1 and 2, but do so on 3 then you can start a new season and you only need to do it on races 1 and 2 consecutively. You can't do it in different seasons unless races run consecutively (ex - First attempt race 1 - fail, race 2 - success, race 3 - success / Second attempt race 1 - success *Achievement Pops*)

So after some time had passed. I went back to this game and realized I forgot how to play. I went to the menu to see the controls, and for some reason, it finally clicked. YOU HAVE TO HOLD DOWN ON THE THUMBSTICK TO BRAKE. How did I not notice this before. So get a little ahead of the enemy chariot. Turn into his horses with my chariot wheel and hold down and the direction of the enemy chariot while whipping them. Apparently, I was only going driving into them without braking. This was the key for me as I killed everyone and got through to the achievement in one run. Time to uninstall and never touch this game again.

Unlocked for me only doing all 3 races in a row, but I would say take your time learning it in the third race (because first race is two laps and it is the hardest) and than work it in a row.

DO NOT RACE smashing A, start it slowly wiping them from the start with RT and LT, trying to put one of them against the wall, be a bit ahead of him and slow down him and yourself with gently pushing back LS, while constantly wiping with RT or LT, there is a small replay window with yellow arrows above you, when you kill him, if no arrow in replay window (they could suicide or kill each other) smash yourself into the wall and play the race again. After killing first one, sprint to next one with pushing A and do the same. Do it SLOWLY, they won't speed up unless you do. Never bump them from behind - you get very much damage, better to slow down with back LS. Make sure you've seen yellow arrows in replay video (or restart the race). If you see some guy has low health try to kill him first, before he is killed or suiceded! After race watch the stats till you see "Enemies Slain: 5" - that is ok!

*YOU* have to destroy all of them. It looks like if they crash, another chariot causes them to damage out, or someone else cracks them out with the whip etc. the achievement will not unlock. Be sure to check after each race to be certain, it needs to say 5 destroyed after each race. Each time I took one out it showed a small replay clip with arrows over my chariot. Keep an eye out for this as well. If you are in the 2nd of 3rd race and something goes wrong crash yourself out. You may retry and still get the achievement as long as YOU destroy all 5 in each race. Also I mostly used the whip and always focused on the one with the lowest health.

Hope this helps to clarify things a bit.

Here's my strategy.

Try to take down one chariot as soon as you are out the gate by grinding it against the right hand wall. That gives you practically all the full laps to get the rest.

You can grind the enemies from the side and use your whip constantly to get hits on both sides but try to pull up along side and use your whip as much as possible as mistimed grinding will sap your health. Avoid hitting statues that sap your health. Keep an eye on your health and if it starts to drop into the red hang back and pick up a health potion.

Every time a crash animation appears you must check for the gold arrows showing that you performed the takedown. You must keep a mental note of how many you have taken down and make sure the right amount of enemies are left in the top right corner as if you do not perform the takedown it will not count. If a chariot goes down without you doing it then end the race by crashing onto a wall. This allows you to start that race again. If you crash in a race don't worry because it will restart you at that race and previous race progress will still count. There are 3 races in total. Once you have finished a race successfully taking down all enemy chariots move on to the next. When you finish a race taking down all the enemies you can check on the score page at the end that you counted correctly as it tells you how many you got.

Top tip: it can be tempting to try to take them out as quickly as possible but a lap lasts longer than you think so don't rush. Keep your health up and drop back if necessary. This is what finally got me the achievement.

After many tries, no achievement for me. Won every race by killing every enemies, but still nothing. Here is why:

This achievement is not buggy. The AI is very idiot in this game and easily die automatically by obstacles, mostly in the first race. As the achievement says YOU have to kill every enemies, so these accidental deaths doesn't count in your progress. There are 3 races and each have 5 enemies, so you have to kill 15 enemies. No restart option in this game, but you can die any times to restart the actual race. When you see an enemy die accidentally, just kill yourself. You can see in the top right corner how many enemies you have.

You will see a little Picture-in-Picture video when you kill somebody on the right way:

External image

You can check how many enemies killed in the Stats menu of Xbox Game Hub.

After you beat the race, don't skip the statistic page! You will see how many enemies killed by you. 5 is the correct number! If you have less, then quit and start a new game.

Although I think most people who played this game already got the achievement by now if they wanted too, if not I suggest using the following tip in combination with the guides made by NEO CRIMS0N, wraithrock and dzhey43.

The final tip I want to add to these 3 guides is that if you fail to get one of the kills and the race is not over, wipe! Crash yourself into a wall to reset the race, this way you won't have to do race 1 and 2 if you make a tiny mistake at race 3. It worked well for me as I now got all the games achievements in 58 minutes, with a few extra retries this could have a half hour longer.

24 May 2018 01:04

This is the toughest achievement for the game. I unlocked it on my second attempt. 53 minutes in all for 1000gs.

Your goal is to knock out all 5 of your opponents in each of the 3 races.
First you want to pick a target away from the main group so that the others do not take the kill from you.
Get a slight lead on your opponents and push into their horses, this seems to be the fastest way to damage them. Throw in a few whip attacks and you are sure to kill them.

If you find you are pulling away too fast you can pull back on the left stick to slow down, push it forward again to speed up. The horse spurring is best to use when catching up to a new victim, and left stick speed control for the attacking.

If you notice that a chariot has been destroyed by something not caused by you, turn sharp into the wall to restart the race. At the end of each race your stats should tell you that you have slain 5 enemies.

Good luck everyone and enjoy the easy gamerscore.

For this achievement, you are required to personally destroy all five enemy chariots in all three races. For destroying them in one race, you will unlock "Executioner’s Touch."

Now, before you start the game, go to your profile on the console and check the statistics for this game on its achievement page. An easier and (much) faster way to check this statistic is if you have the Smartglass app on your phone or tablet. Note how many enemies you’ve already killed.

Beginning with the first race, destroy the enemy chariots by any means possible (refer to "Spoils of the Victor" for tips). Each time you think you’ve personally destroyed an enemy chariot (either by the sound or the gold arrows in the picture-in-picture window), pause the game. Since enemy kills are tracked in real time, you can see how many you’ve killed by checking the statistics.

  1. If that number has increased, then you’ve destroyed one of the five chariots so far. Unpause the game and keep trying to destroy the remaining enemy chariots. Check the number after each kill.
  2. Likewise, if you think you’ve killed someone, and by checking the statistic the number has not increased, just crash into a wall to restart the race. Do NOT press then to Quit the race since you will reset your progress back to the first race.
  3. Also, keep an eye on the number of positions there are in the top right of the screen (it will be 6 at the start of the race). If that number has decreased and you know for certain you haven’t killed anyone, again, just crash into a wall to restart that race.

When you’ve destroyed all five enemies, you will see the Victory screen. Do not skip the stats at the end of the race. On the fifth screen, there is a ‘Slain Enemies’ statistic. If it says 5, then you did indeed personally destroy all the enemies in the race. If you somehow missed a kill(s), then regrettably you need to do the entire season over again (see note below).

If you’ve successfully killed all five enemies in a race, move on to the next one. Once you’ve killed all five enemies in all three races, the achievement will unlock during the final Victory screen.

Note: All five kills in all three races need to be done in one season. If you somehow missed one or more enemies in any one of the races, you need to do the entire season over again. This cannot be unlocked across multiple seasons.
