How to unlock the Old World Gadgets achievement in Biomutant - Definitive Guide

Hi All

Currently as of 25/05/2021 and version 2.01 this achievement is unobtainable. Going bold and posting the guide anyway, and hoping it is correct smile, if it is wrong then please let me know.

The title is somewhat misleading, there are more than 15 types of Old World Gadgets. The gadgets we are interested in are the ones that trigger side missions when found.

You only need to find one of each type, and solve the colour matching puzzle associated to it. However, I would recommend finding all to receiving rare weapon/gear crafting parts.

The 15 types are:

The 5 people with the achievements say they unlocked on the 11th and 12th of May so it was probably before the patch that broke the achievement

I have collected two of these and my tracker is at 3%
Could it be that the requirement was changed from getting one of each type, to collecting all 73?

I collected all 73 on the first round and on new game+. I noticed that phonebooths counted as 2 gadgets, maybe it's the root cause. Or I am missing something pretty significant.

I'm on Series X playing a digital version of the game and my progress is going up on this achievement, currently at 61%

Update: I'm nearing collecting all the gadgets and the progress is only at 68% 🙃

Okay well I’m gonna give it a go when I finish work so I’ll let you guys know how it goes, worst case if it doesn’t work I can just create a new game when they fix it, shouldn’t take long at all to get the achievement

Just seen on Reddit that they are bringing out a patch soon, couldn’t see any mention of anything to do with achievements but fingers crossed this patch fixes them

People are slowly unlocking it, but maybe they are playing with disc versions w/o patch.

CIBLEUR38, I don't think you can install the digital version of the game without patches once the game has been patched. Once you choose to install it has the most recent version only on the digital store. That's why you'd need a disc copy to make that work.

Dibbs93, you can absolutely play offline and earn achievements on Xbox. You don't get notifications when they unlock, so you won't know if it worked until you actually connect online and check though.

I havnt got to that bit yet, hopefully I don't get the same issue, my tracker for old world gadgets is now at 3% I played for about half an hour not getting another gadget and it went up to 1% kept playing without getting anymore and it went up to 2% I got another one and it didn't go up any and then 15 mins later it went up another 1% so I don't have a clue what's happening with this one

Accourding to PowerPyx the devs have said they will fix this PlayStation trophy next patch so hopefully they will fix the achievement too

I was able to get the achievement:

Keep doing the super wu attacks from the other achievement. Every 3-4 time you will get 1%. Takes a while, but I did it.

I can confirm activating Super Wung-Fu is progressing the achievement. It goes up 1% every three uses. For best results, use a low-level weapon in the desert biome, and don't hit anyone when it's active. Activating it is all that's required, so you can easily get 3-5% per fight depending on how many enemies there are.

I can also confirm that using super wung fu progresses this achievement, was at 69% and after spamming wung fu in 1 fight I'm up to 75%, equip lowest attack rating automatic rifle and buy both wung fu combos for automatic rifles, set the difficulty to hard and you could probably get this done in 1 fight

Yeah seems to be working so far, I just hope that when they try to fix the achievement it doesn't end up breaking it to the point where the work around doesn't work either

I've got up to 81% by doing the work around. Haven't got higher unfortunately. What might have stopped my progress was having the achievement tracker UI active.

It was working fine until I had refreshed it by checking the numerical percentage so for those trying to get this via work around, it might be worth avoiding that.

I can confirm using wung fu about 200-300 times unlocks this achievement. As others have said, set the difficulty to hard and use a really weak automatic rifle and it should take about 1 or 2 hours.
The next patch is supposed to fix this achievement, so if you really want to get the achievement, do it now, in case it breaks again.

I wasn’t even able to utilize the Wung Fu method as my tracker just stopped at 74%. Hopefully, after the fix, it will just unlock when you boot the game up. It’s possible we’re gonna have to recollect all 15 in a new game or plus. Still wouldn’t be too bad, though.

I can confirm that using Wung Fu will move the OWG tracker about 1% every other time you use it. I found all of the gadgets and my tracker was at 55%. After grinding the other 45% the achievement unlocked.

It's fixed just now. I loaded up my new game plus and it didn't unlock. So I used an old save from the normal playthrough and it unlocked instantly.

You have to find one each of the above 15. Most likely the last one you'll come across is the Gramaphone, or the Safe, or even maybe the Radio as it can be found early but is in a biohazardous reactor so you might skip it for a while.

It's bugged for me. Stuck at 93 % . Game version 1.7.0 .

I don't think it's possible to play without the patch and unlock achievements as I think you need to be online to get achievements, I just got my first fry sparker from a microwave and the % didn't go up

The achievement is completely broken on the newest patch (progress doesn't move at all - edit: after a certain point).
I tried doing it offline without the patch and then going online, but it didn't even unlock.

Make sure to report these glitches here if you want them fixed, THQ Nordic does not have a good history of getting glitched achievements fixed so far:

Perfect guide in comments until patched, put on hard mode, used bulletspinno pjupejector and hoover grooblade against the same enemy in the desert just outside bangshelter 5k (just north of Moto) got about 3-4 super wung fu triggers against it, ran back to let the enemy get back to full health then ran back to it again. When I got low health and couldn't use automaton health injector I ran back to the campfire at mjutmeadow and rested til next morning to restore health and injector. Rinse repeat for about an hour.

I've noticed you have to find 15 different types of old world gadgets to unlock it. At first, I was under the impression you could get it by finding 15 gadgets in general.

Discover all 15 Old World Gadgets

Old World Gadgets are a type of Collectible in Biomutant. For the achievement you are supposed to “find all 15” of them, but there are actually more than 15. Finding any 15 of these will do.

*NOTE* This trophy is currently glitched as of patch 2.01 in that the tracker for all the gadgets appears to be broken and revisiting older saves, NG+ and a new game to correct this aren’t working. If you have a disc version revert back to patch 1.00 and don’t install the update. Failing that a newer patch will hopefully correct this.

I would advise that if you do this trophy, try and interact with each one, make a note of the ones you have done just once and don’t finish the side missions through to their end until you pop the trophy.

There are over 15 gadgets to find and are located at various places around the world. Some you will find naturally as you progress the story, some are found or required to solve as you do side missions, and through natural exploration, you will discover others. They all have a mission attached to them once you solve the first one, so for example when you find a TV (or Eyeboxes as they are called in the game) and solve the puzzle for it, you will be tasked with finding another 4 of 5. Unfortunately, these are not tracked in game, so use the list below as your tracker as to which ones you find/need:

Bleep Bleep Cupboards (Arcade Machine)
Clothes Soakers (Washing Machine)
Flush Stooles (Toilet)
Fry Sparker (Microwave)
Mindmonitors (PC/Computer)
Ping Pong Booths (Phone Box)

Ringdingers (Telephone with rotating dial)
Stringplonks (Piano)
Stronkboxes (Safe)
Terra Globuses (Globe)
Twing-Twangs (Guitar)
Spiral Groover (Record Player)
Pipes (These are everywhere in various locations and are usually needed to be solved to progress in areas such as sewers etc).
Powerbox (These are everywhere in various locations and are usually needed to be solved to progress in areas such as sewers etc).
Pingdish (Radar Tower, there are 4 of these and are needed to be solved to find environmental protection suits).

You will find the last type of “slot machine” device only after completing a certain quest and getting to the last territory at the very top of the map for the Solo character...

You start a new game with a low level and use the text guide to assemble devices. For unnecessary actions, I only had to go through the entry again with the choice of a clan and collect costumes for cold regions and for radioactive territories.
