How to unlock the Grand Daddy achievement in BioShock 2 - Definitive Guide

A few tips. Big Daddies are no longer the feared enemy they once were. They tend to fall a bit easier now, but if your not sure how to tackle one and survive, this will help.
1. Use trap rivets. Put them in a big group and get the Daddy to run across them. Usually if they are a Rosie, just hit and run and they will follow. If they aren't a Rosie, they will follow anyway. Enough of these can down a Big Daddy by themselves.
2. Classic combo. Use the Electro bolt and then shoot. Repeat. It worked in the last game, still works.
3. You have a gigantic drill ON your hand. Use the drill the dash, swing, and spin all work fantastic. Keep in mind you will get hit. You must watch your health but this is one of the quickest ways to beat em.
4. Research. If you reseach them it will get easier. You don't have to beat the first three Big Daddies, so if you absolutly cannot do it, wait til you get the camera, research then give it another shot.

"I'm going for the Big Brass Balls achievement on Hard Mode so I'm not using Vita Chambers."

Ditto, got it by accident. Didn't know it was an achievement.

I got this achieve when I was playing with Vitachambers off. Unlocked right after I killed my third big daddy.

I've killed way more than three Big Daddies without dying and still haven't gotten this. Seems maybe the description is unclear. Do you have to kill three IN A ROW without dying? Does it invalidate the achievement if you die from other enemies in between fighting three Daddies? And do the "alpha series" count, or is it only the OG kind?

Its been awhile, but I would say to be safe, bo Vita Chambers in between killing them or during as far as the alpha series, I'm not sure if those count, but anything that has or can have a little sister with them should count.

Another thing that is worth noting is that you can just save prior to fighting the Big Daddies. If you die, just reload the save. I'm going for the Big Brass Balls achievement on Hard Mode so I'm not using Vita Chambers. I died on the first Big Daddy in the game but beat my next 3 without dying. SO I was 3 out of 4 with the last three being in a row. However, the achievement popped on the 3rd Big Daddy I fought.

One more thing, you can fight the respawn of a Big Daddy you killed to get this achievement. So you don't have to go looking for other Big Daddies. I killed the first Big Daddy I saw in Pauper's Drop to get the Little Sister. I then saw the same respawn of the Big Daddy I killed and the achievement popped when I killed that respawn.

To quickly kill a Big Daddy (or a Big Sister for that matter) without taking damage, use Winter Blast and move in with the drill. Spin the drill by holding the right trigger and continue throwing Winter Blast at regular intervals until the Big Daddy drops. Frozen creatures cannot move or attack so they are no threat to you. Also, frozen creatures die much more quickly than unfrozen creatures, as seen by the "frozen" health bar of your enemy overlaid upon their normal health bar when attacking them in a frozen state.

The higher level Winter Blast plasmids are even better, as the freezing effect lasts much longer. Finally, an extra bonus can be gained by installing the Freezing Drill tonic, found on a corpse in Pauper's Drop. With a fully upgraded drill and high level Winter Blast, you can take down multiple large enemies with ease.

In addition to AuraOfRage you get this over time as long as you dont die in between the 3 big daddys your all set! easy way i found to do this is on the level after the theme park where you have to do the overide to bypass the door blocking your train!

*update*
Vita chambers turned off dosnt count if you kill the same big daddy 3 times and also the first level with three little sisters in it right away when you first see the rumbler big daddy! (:

When i die and reload an older save, will it still count or do i have "Really" to stay alive?

since you reload your save, its as if everything you did after that, including dying, didn't happen, so yes you can die as long as you reload your save it'll work

Don't know why this was downvoted I was wondering if there is a part in the game with 3 at once (aka wolverine windegos) or if you can do it as described. Maybe you should add that reloading save thing as part of this solution.

I found the easiest way, was make sure you have 2 flying sentry guns with you, get your drill ready/fully loaded.
Walk up behind the big daddy,
zap, 3 second with the drill (or bash it) and repeat.
The daddy will die from you and the bots, and if your lucky your flying bots will still be alive at the end of the fight
(This was accomplished on hard play through)
Worked on both Rosie and the other one(can't remember its name)

If you're starting out on easy this shouldn't be an issue. You need to fight three Big Daddies without dying. You can use Security Bots, Turrets or hypnotize Splicers to help you take down a Big Daddy. Once you have taken down one Big Daddy save your game and move onto the next. If you are playing with the Vita Chambers off you shouldn't have to worry about re-spawning by mistake.

If you are attempting this on hard you may have a tough time taking down a single Big Daddy. Make sure you have plenty of Health and EVE, using Winter Blast with the Drill seems to be the most effective way to kill a Big Daddy. Continuously freeze him while you attack.

To unlock this achievement you will need to defeat 3 separate Big Daddies without the killing you. You will find Big Daddies usually guarding Little Sisters, though sometimes they will be walking around on their own. They are most susceptible to armour piercing rounds from the Machine Gun, but can be killed relatively easily with Heavy Rivets from the Rivet Gun too. Make use of the Electro Shock Plasmid to stun them to keep them at a distance.

There are 4 types of Big Daddies. The Bouncer which will charge at you with it's Drill weapon, Rosie which has a Rivet gun and shoots proximity mines, The Rumbler which has a shoulder mounted rocket launcher and the Alpha Series that use heavy weapons like the Machine Gun and Launcher. They all typically have the same weaknesses though non are too difficult to defeat. You will want to keep distance from the Bouncer and Alpha Series as they both charge/melee attack you. Rosie Big Daddies are probably the easiest to deal with, their Rivet Gun attack isn't too powerful and as long as you can avoid their proximity mines, you're good. The final ones, The Rumblers seem to be powerful on the surface, but you can use your telekinesis to shoot their rockets back at them for decent damage. Doing this is also a way to unlock the "Counterattack" achievement.

If you go for platinum and decide to get the "Big Brass Balls" trophy, then this trophy turns into a story trophy. You already have to go through the entire game without dying - only by saving.
