Don't forget to "ride" Journey to the Surface. It's a hoot!
But as to surviving to the point of thawing that train tunnel, well, there's one thing that can be done to make life easier. See those Maintenance/Staff Only doors? If you run all the way through the ride to the end, there will be a switch that opens all of these. These doors lead back up to the main museum so you can navigate easier without doing as much runaround and backtracking.
Adopted a Little Sister and Unbreakable will have solutions for the Big Daddy and Big Sister fights you'll meet up with.
But here's what you do once you get back to the train station.
Incinerate the iced over tunnel and then Sinclair will ask you to throw the lever to open the door to the room he's in so he can get on the train. The lever is in the little operations room on the platform. (I'm amazed the splicers didn't flush him out sooner. lol) Pull that lever and Sinclair will run straight for the train and lock himself inside. Good thing too, because here comes the splicers. Two will come immediately to the train and the operations room window. You can enjoy the sight of them banging for a while because they don't think to follow you in through the opened operations room door... (unless that was a glitch on my playthrough lol)
Run out and whack them then be prepared to flame the oil pools near the entrance to Ryan Amusements as more splicers will join the party. Finish them off and get on the train. All aboard!

In my playthrough, the door to the room was temporarily locked as the splicers came in, then it opened after a while so I could get to the killin'.

that's good to hear, the world of Bioshock is usually very careful the player doesn't mess with its story. ;) So either way, I'm guessing you're safe for a time in there. Thanks!

(spoiler-light) Unmissible storyline achievement. This is for completing the museum level. During this level, you will encounter big daddies and possibly a big sister. After running a fetch quest, you will return to the train station. Use the fire Plasmid to clear the ice. Then there will be a big fight with a mob. Achievement will pop when you start the train again.
