How to unlock the High Score achievement in BioShock 2 - Definitive Guide

This secret achievement is as follows:

High Score - Got 9999 points in one game of Spitfire.

Spitfire is a semi-hidden arcade machine in the second area of the game (Operations). To get there, once you start the second level, go straight ahead past the front lobby desk, and through the door. Then, go downstairs to the right and follow the signs for the "Programming Area". Once you pass through the first "Programming Area" door, go straight and pass through the next door. You should now be in a large-ish room with doors on either side and some machines in the middle. After entering the large room, head to the right and enter through the right door. Looking straight ahead, there should be yet another door. Go through and there will be some stairs. Go up the stairs, and right next to the Circus of Values will be something that looks like a computer monitor. Walk up to it and press A to begin the mini-game.

It's not really too difficult to get 9999 on the game, it took me only a few tries.

Tips for the game:

* Move around as much as you can. This game plays similar to Asteroids for those of you who have played it.

* Mash the A button (fire button) as fast as you can. The faster you press the fire button, the more shots come out.

Credit: I found the location from a post made by tsugarusatsujin on the ps3trophies forum. According to him: the minigame is in the

"Second area of the game in system programming on the second floor above a bunch of servers. It is in between the locked office and the vending machine that you buy the key from."

Good luck! If anyone has trouble with the location leave a comment below and I will help clarify.

Having to move in the direction of the circle in order to fire so inaccurately at it is the worst!

This secret achievement is called "High Score"

Requirement: Get 9999 points in one game of Spitfire

Location: Once you enter the level Operations take the first door to your right (Programming area) go into the large room and take the door on the right at the other end of this room is another door, go through here and up the stairs and it's right in front of you.

This game plays a lot like space invaders.
It's tricky but I have a tip that may help you.

First off controls:

A - Fire
RT - Fire
Left stick - To move

There will be a lot of crap flying at you and you touch one thing you lose a life. You have three lives, use them well.

THE BIG TIP..........hope this helps
I had a hard time doing this but when I started using 'A' and 'RT' at the same time to fire, it started to get a bit laggy and it was a lot easier to dodge everything, when I found this out I completed it in my first go. You might not notice it at first but just try it, maybe it's just my xbox who knows.

Just thought I would give that little tip, I hope it helps.

I found this really easy which was suprising. I just button bashed A while moving around and I also moved of the edge of the screen to come back on the other side which help. On my 3rd try I bagged 8000 on one life so I was set. I didn't even realise RT was a shoot button. Lol.

Coming in late 2021... And you're a bonafide genius! First try with the trick after 20+ without it. Thanks for the help and preventing me from destroying my controller!

Nah this method doesn’t work. A and RT does nothing. This is BS hard.

Here's a video by the Rooster Teeth guys about the location and a few tips on how to play. In the vid it says it gook the guy 3-4 tries. For some this may be the case. It took me more like 15-20. I suck at this game just as bad as Asteroids (which is what this game really is) A trick I found is to alternate fire between RT and A which lets you get off twice as many shots. Good Luck!

To unlock this achievement you will need to score 9999 points on the mini-game 'Spitfire'. To find the terminal to play the mini-game, starting at the beginning of the level, run past the desk with the dead body and through the door behind it into a room that has a huge sign saying 'Rapture Central Computing'. Drop down the ledge in front of you and go through the door on the right labelled 'Programming'. Go straight through here through another door into a wide open room with a huge glass ceiling. Go down the right hand steps and up the immediate set of steps in front of you and then through the door to the left. Go straight through again to the door you can see in front/slightly to your right and up 2 flights of stairs. The terminal for the mini-game is in front of you.

The location on a map if you prefer, where the player arrow is:

Now the actual game is pretty straight forward. You control a little ship and shoot at other little ships. If you get hit you lose one of the 3 lives you start with. Your score doesn't reset if you lose a life, though it of course does if you lose all of your lives. There isn't much in the way of strategy, it is effectively a very basic SHMUP game.

Spitfire is a mini-game that is new to Minerva's Den, and can be played during the game's second level, Operations. When you reach the room with four visible consoles, go up the stairs to your right and through the door. Go through the next door and up some more stairs. In front of you there will be a TV screen. Press  to play the Spitfire game.

To get the achievement, you will have to get a total of 9999 points with only 4 lives.
Use the  to aim, and  or  to shoot your enemies.

MISSABLE

You can play this game in the second level (Operations). When you're there, there is a room in the south side of the area (see the map). From the main area, turn right and go straight. Right before the doors to Reed Wahl's office (which is also labelled on the map), turn right. Past the giant machines, go through the door and up the stairs. As you reach the end of the stairs, right in front of you and will see a giant computer screen so approach it and press to play the Spitfire game.

How this game works is simple. You are an "X" on the screen and you have to shoot the "squares" with the button. The way you direct your fire is with the analogue stick. Each square destroyed nets you 125 points (the bolded squares net you 250). You have 4 "lives" or "rounds" (it'll say "3" but "0" is also a life). You will need to accumulate 9999 points over the course of the four rounds. Once you do, you will win the game and unlock this trophy.

Just try to get as many points and lose as few lives as possible. Avoid the incoming bullets and stay in constant motion. This is the hardest trophy in the game and the reason why I gave this a difficulty rating of 8/10:

Here's a video showing how to get the score (credit to Rooster Teeth):
