How to unlock the Glutton for Punishment achievement in BioShock Infinite - Definitive Guide

Ironsides is a plasmid that lets you steal bullets from an enemy's gun while they fire and it inserts into your gun. I didn't get it in my first playthrough, so what I did was reload the chapter "Return to Rapture". The best way to get the achievement is to hold LT when enemies fire at you. The single activation doesn't seem to work very well. When you load the chapter you will hear Ryan talk and send a bunch of enemies at you. Use Ironsides on these enemies, then keep reloading the chapter until you have it. It shouldn't be too hard this way.

-This does work in 1998 mode (thanks to Samarin6 for confirming) - "yes it works in 1998 mode, just make sure you aren't full on ammo for your equipped weapon as you can't gain any more"

- You can also do this against a standard turret. You can "summon" a turret by purposely hitting a red node when lockpicking. However, I personally don't suggest doing this because certain people (including myself) had trouble getting it to work on turrets.

Here's a video if you required extra guidance.

Credit for video goes to Reabo. Thanks again man :)

Do you know if this works in 1998 mode? I'm working my way from the airship now, have used it a couple times, but I don't see an achievement tracker pop-up, and my only weapon is the cross bow with non lethal bolts, so I don't really have any weapons to collect ammo for.

You can still collect ammo from the plasmid on 1998. I can't tell whether non-letal weapons count because I got the achievement on my first run which was on easy difficulty. Sorry.

So if I run into one last enemy in an area to farm this for a bit, I should just fire off a gas bolt or two to make sure I'm not full? Ironside will refill those crossbow bolts, and then I'll have to expend them again?

Got it in 1998 mode with this method thanks to the comments. It will refill crossbow bolts, and only when it refills one will it count towards the achievement. I emptied my crossbow during Andrew Ryan's countdown and as soon as I caught a fireball from the plasmid splicer guy, the tracker popped up "1/20". I would suggest double-trancing that guy to start, and just using Ironsides against the other 5 guys that rush in. I finished by farming my last 10-12 bolts on the 3+ guys outside the club you have to advance into to further the story. I ran up the stairs with no ammo, popped & held Ironsides, filled my clip, hid, emptied the clip, filled my eve at a vending machine (had $110+ to start), rinsed and repeated. This was all via chapter select to "Return to Rapture" per the solution, after finishing my original 1998 mode playthrough.

@DEEVIUS I personally didn't use the turrets to get the achievement altogether, mainly because they didn't work for me too, but they seem to work for others. I suggest keep trying with infantry as it seems to work better than with turrets.

i think i found a better and easier place to do this. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER.SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER.SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER.

when you turn the clock to open the "work" door at Fink industries. you go down an elevator and at the bottom are 3 enemies to take care of. So take care of them and there is an automaton turret or whatever right outside that window dead ahead and a door to your right with a dollar bill vending machine. it autosaves when you approach the vending machine so. do that. turn around and empty your hand cannon once back out in the big room. step in front of the turret and gain all the ammo you can. once empty go buy salts from the vending machine...3 or 4 times and you got the achievement. i had plenty of money so you should to. i would make a guide but this is hugely spoilerish.

Strange I got no bullets and no achievement progression from any turrets on 1998 mode, only rarely with shotgun, crossbow and pistol guys. Can anyone definitely confirm that you do receive progression from turrets on 1998 mode? 'cos I'm def not getting any!

For those that hacked the door in the lab before returning with the hair sample (meaning the turret wont be there to use to farm as shown in the video above). There is another turrent in that area. When the wave starts shoot the special splicer with a gas dart as soon as the door opens. Have a gun with no ammo ready and run passed all the other dudes straight to the turret at the bottom of the stairs. This is a new turret that is only there until you kill everyone, then afterwards it vanishes by itself. Just spam this turret... die, load and repeat. I only had to use two reloads so got it in a few mins.

I read all the guides, and while you CAN get this anywhere, getting to the places isn't always the quickest. Waiting for Ryan's men takes a full minute, for example.

I loaded up Columbia, then went through the first part of the level. Just after the first part, you'll go through a door and pick up Ironsides. Then you'll go through a vent for a while. Right when you exit the vent, there's an autosave. There are two enemies on the deck. Empty your clip, and jump down. The enemies will fire. You can shoot the enemies if you like to re-empty the clip, because more enemies will come from around the corner.

When you run out of Eve (or just die), you will respawn back in the vent. Jump down, repeat, etc. I found it easier to shoot the enemies to empty the clip since I survived longer (on 1998 mode). Took me 3 runs (2 reloads) from that point without ever having used Ironsides to that point.

I tried reloading the checkpoint from the other solutions, but the lock was already gone - this solution worked for me. 3 reloads and 10 minutes work. Thanks

Worked great! Got it in 5 minutes. Wasted all my hand cannon ammo at the very start, when I dropped down the vent, just before you meet the enemies, I wasted my shotgun ammo and stirred things up. As someone passed the vent I jumped out and they saw me. They started shooting and another guy joined in. Had Ammo Cannon and Shotgun equipped. Better than the other guides.

100% the best way to do this Post-Game. Thank you so much. The checkpoint is perfect. +1 from me. Needs to be at the top.

The quickest way to get this is at the start of Return to Raptue. When you start the level there is a turret locked away in the kitchen to the right. Requires 2 lock picks, also make sure to screw up the lock picking by triggering a red tumbler. Just unload all the ammo from your weapon and then get its attention, you can get about 3/20 per turret burst. Reload the checkpoint when necessary.

There is also 2 bottles of Eve:
1. Beside the door to the left
2. Right behind the turret

It takes about 3-5 minutes to get the achievement from this point.

But you have to trigger the turret by screwing up the lock picking, right?

Since I lock picked safely for my 1998 run, I didn't have the turret. Guess I'll start a new, easy run for diaries and this one.

I didn't know if you need to screw up on the lock picking, I just didn't care at that point. I'll add that.

By screw up I mean you have to hit a red pin, which triggers the alarm and a sentry to attack you.

If you have explored this area prior and have already unlocked these doors, then your return will have no locks to pick...unfortunately.

One of the easiest places to get this is during the "Find Fink's Laboratory" mission right after opening the "Work" room with the giant clock mechanism.

Opening the "Work" door leads you to an elevator that takes you down. Once at the bottom, you will get a checkpoint save. The doors will open on a room that has two stationary enemies and one roaming enemy (he has a very small patrol circle). All three can be targeted from inside the elevator (you'll have to wait for the roamer to stand up from examining the floor), but the one sitting at the window won't detect you until you are well into the room. At the opposite end of the room from you will be a floating turret right outside the shattered window.

Whether or not you're in 1998 Mode, use your tranquilizer gun on all 3 enemies, fire any remaining ammo to empty the weapon and then walk toward the turret. As soon as it begins firing, hold LT while having Ironsides as your selected plasmid/tonic. Hold LT until the ammo in the crossbow is full and then back off.

Reload the checkpoint and repeat until the achievement pops. The sleep dart crossbow holds 4 rounds, so this'll take 5 reloads. If you think you have enough Eve for a second attempt before reloading, empty the crossbow and stand in front of the turret again (thanks to vSully for the tip).

Much easier than setting off alarms/using lockpicks and you can get it fairly shortly after entering Columbia.

This trophy required you to collect 20 rounds of ammo with the Ironsides plasmid which you will get shortly after returning to Columbia. If your weapons are full of ammo you won't be able to collect ammo so fire some shots off to make some space. The best way I found to do this is to play on any difficulty other than 1998 mode since you can fill up more ammo with your hand cannon. If you play on 1998 mode it will take much longer since the crossbow only holds 4 bolts at a time.

The best place I found is when you are searching for the hair sample in Columbia. This will be just before you get Audio Log 20 - Necessary Precautions and before you reach the area with the giant golden statue. You will descend an elevator and come to an area with a group of enemies and a turret at the far end on a ship through a broken window. Deal with all the enemies and leave the turret. Clear out all your hand cannon ammo and equip Ironsides, move in front of the turret and hold to use Ironsides and collect ammo. Keep doing this until you get all 20. You may need to empty your hand cannon ammo from time to time and if you run out of Eve, there should be a vending machine through a door to the right from where you entered the room.

If you wish to earn the trophy earlier then you can farm it right after you exit the vent from the First Lady, there will be a lot of enemies around to get ammo from and you can reload the checkpoint which will bring you right back to when you exited the vent.

Excellent video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDcaVK0_74Y , at difficulty level 1998 you can farm yourself various arrows for a crossbow this way.

The trophy is cumulative and can be easily obtained by using the skill on the turret, having first spent all the ammo.

You can “collect” cartridges only if their quantity is incomplete for a given weapon. Those. Before the “Gathering” you need to fire all the cartridges (for example, a shotgun), and then go at the enemy firing from a shotgun.

Easily boosted near vending machines to replenish Eva.
