How to unlock the Should Auld Acquaintance... achievement in BioShock Infinite - Definitive Guide

At the main menu (Where you have the option to select play game, options, season pass store and credits) press Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A and you should get a prompt saying you unlocked 1999 mode.

Strangely when I did this on the d-pad it didn't work no matter how fast I did it. When I used the analog sticks it worked on the first try. I think old school gamers would be more prone to attempt it using the d-pad which may explain any down votes.

I unlocked them 17 hours apart and Dead Space 3 is a 6-8 run thru if you know what you are doing but you wouldn't know that seeing as you haven't played the game

Im a part way thro the game on Hard. Can I unlock this using the Konami code now and get this and the run through? Or do I need to start a new game and run through in 1999 mode.

Alternatively, you can complete the main game to unlock it.

This achievement is earned by unlocking 1999 Mode through 1 of 2 methods.

1. You can choose to complete the game on a first play-through on either Easy, Normal, or Hard difficulty.

2. You can input the old school Konami "cheat" code to unlock the mode and play through it right off the bat, if you choose. The following code can be entered from the Main Menu, Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A.

If either method is performed you'll pop this 10G achievement!

1999 Mode is unlocked only after completing the game on Hard difficulty.

To unlock 1999 mode type in the infamous Konami Code at the beginning of the game (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left Right, B, A).

Pressing A will unlock 1999 mode and you will begin.

Some quick tips:
- 1999 mode can be unlocked from the start
- When you die, it costs ~75-100 silver eagles as your 'respawn toll'
- If you die and don't have enough silver eagles to cover the respawn toll, you are booted to the main menu and will continue at the beginning of the section you were currently on.
- Tougher enemies with improved accuracy and more health.
- Harder resource management.
- Unable to change difficulty.
- Unable to access the map (up arrow).

There are two ways to unlock this game mode. You can either beat the story on any other difficulty and it will unlock automatically at the end of the game, or you can enter the Konami Code whilst you are highlighting the “Play Game” option in the Main Menu:
