First instance of getting a bot friend is when you enter the medical pavilion for the first time. Turn left past the vending machine and you will see a bot blocking the door. You have to successfully hack this bot in order to progress. Doing this correctly will also get you the "One successful hack" achievement.

to start hacking the bot. The game explains how the hacking works but essentially you must connect the pipes from one end to another while the liquid is flowing. Once you understand how to move the pipes it is really not that hard.
*IMPORTANT If you did not get your achievement right here, check the progress tracker. If there is no progress for that or any of your audio diaries collected, start a new game. The game might glitch for some people. I have hacked several bots, cameras & vending machines but nothing unlocked or made progress. It was at this point I started a new game, got to here and it unlocked right away.

Awarded after hacking your first security bot. To hack it, stun it with Electro Bolt and then walk up to it and press the V key. It doesn't matter if you hack manually, use a hack tool or pay for a "buyout".

Right when you start the level Medical Pavilion, walk forward towards the foyer and make a U-turn to the left and you will see a door with a security bot jammed between the doors. Simply hacking it via the Pipe Dream-like mini-game will unlock the trophy as well as
