How to unlock the Seriously Good at This achievement in BioShock Remastered - Definitive Guide

I recommend doing this achievement in two ways:

1. Play through the game on your preffered difficulty, and after completing it you will unlock New Game Plus, available for all difficulties and all your data like weapons, inventory, research etc. will carry over as soon as you reach the Medical Pavillon. This makes Survivor difficulty a lot easier!

Spoiler ahead!!!

2. You can also get all achievements, except for the challenge mode achievements, in almost one playthrough... Just select your preffered difficulty and play until you reach the last fight against Fontaine. When you drain his Adam for the fourth time, just hit start and select Survivor difficulty and press A to apply. Watch the cutscene and your cheevo should pop!!! If you disabled the Vita-Chambers, the Brass Balls achievement should pop as well...

But only if you switch it to Hard instead of Survivor because the Brass Balls achievement only pops on Hard for some Reason and NOT on Survivor difficulty, thanks to
Toa TAK for pointing that out. You can always reuse the last autosave just before the fight in order to get the achievements you need.

I hope this helps and enjoy this amazing game!!!

The highest difficulty in Bioshock on Xbox 360 was Hard but now it's Survivor and I played on Hard on my first playthrough and i didn't get this achievement but after switching to Survivor i got it right away. It also makes sense that this unlocks on Survivor difficulty due to the fact that the Brass Balls cheevo unlocks on Hard only. And the locked achievement description is very clear although they only copied it... " Complete the game on the hardest difficulty setting", on Xbox 360 on Hard and on Xbox One on Survivor. Did you get this by playing on Hard?

Do the audio tapes that you have found also carry over to New Game Plus?

Awesome! So we can definitely play on Easy with no Vitachambers and switch to Survival after the fourth drain and still get Brass Balls, right?

You will definitely unlock the "Seriously Good At This" Achievement if you switch to Survivor difficulty during the fourth drain. I played on Hard with Vita-Chamber disabled but it shouldn't make any difference on easy as long as you disable the Vita-Chambers.

Although I did the brass balls achievement legit, after obtaining brass balls, I selected the "Fontaine" autosave, switched to easy got to the fourth drain and then switched it to survivor and it popped as it should. You would think they would have fixed this glitch but I guess not.

Yes, after you have finished the game you can go into New Game Plus and select Survivior difficulty from there. And you should have an Autosave right before the Boss fight so even if you screw up you should be able to try again...

I for one, am very happy this glitch is here.

Because you can beat it on Survivor with no Vita Chambers, but you won't unlock Brass Balls. It has to be on Hard difficulty for that one.

Okay this is really strange that you don't get it on a higher difficulty but thanks for pointing that out, I'll correct that.

I can confirm that you can get both Brass Balls and Seriously Good At This going on easy throughout the game, then changing the difficulty right after starting the last ADAM drain. You basically hit A to start the drain then immediately hit start to change the difficulty. I didn't get the achievement for saving the little sisters till the second time fighting the final boss. One time you need to change the difficulty to hard (probably disable vita chambers even on easy to be safe). Second time change to survivor difficulty and get all the achievements

I managed to somehow die after changing the difficulty and thus had to do the fight again, but the achievement still popped thankfully

You should remove the word Survivor difficulty from the solution. The achievement is unlocked for beating the game on Hard difficulty just like it was on Xbox 360. The achievement description clearly says "The player has completed the game on the Hard difficulty setting" once you've unlocked the achievement. The locked achievement description is a bit ambiguous but that's due to the fact that they've copied the descriptions from the original achievement list.

The Survivor difficulty achievements are only available on PlayStation.

Ok that makes sense, too. I just find it strange that on PlayStation there are seperate trophies for that:

A Man Chooses
Complete the game on Survivor difficulty
TrueTrophies

I Chose the Impossible
Complete the game on Survivor difficulty without using a Vita-chamber
TrueTrophies

Just wanted to mention, I'm pretty sure on 360 NG+ voided achievements. Do we know if it's the same situation here?

Ok, looks like you CAN get Achievements in NG+. I started a NG+ playthrough and picked up the Recording I missed, and Historian popped. Hoping to blitz through and see if (hopefully) Brass Balls does too!

btw i have recieved brass balls even though i started the game without turning vita chambers off. i did turn them off (on easy) before i had died during them game, then when i was up against fontaine i changed to survivor (got that achievement) then went back did it again but changed it to hard which got me the brass bals achievement.

I guess you can play with vita chambers enabled as long as you don't die during your playthrough and get respawned in it... But that might be a little more risky... ;)

I can't believe part two of this solution works, but it does.

I played my second playthrough on Hard all the way through before I read this just to get Brass Balls.

I switched the Fontaine fight to Easy killed him on Survivor at the last second before the cutscene. I can't see how this made it through to release.

I played through on hard with no vita chambers. Got the cheevo. Reloaded final battle and switched to survivor during the last adam extraction. Got that cheevo and also the little sister saviour cheevo...which glitched out for some reason the first time I beat it.

I had too replay the boss fight about 6/7 times too get the achievements...first time big brass balls was the only one too pop kept trying too replay it and hope the others would pop so I decided too start a new game plus on easy then jump back too my previous save at the boss fight and it's unlocked the last two however I had too put the difficulty on one above hard think it's survivor strange how it's glitchy though.. In case anyone is having an issue try what I did.

So far I've been playing on Normal and If I happen to die I always load to my previous save, When I kill fontaine will I still unlock the achievement for not using the Vita Chamber? When I get home tonight I'm going to disable it.

You should be fine if you always reload your last save but i would disable Vita-Chambers just to be safe.

For those who did what I did and switched to survivor not knowing this wouldn’t unlock, all you have to do is reload the save back up before the fight, switch it to easy again then proceed with the fight. Then do the exploit and switch to HARD after stabbing the final boss for the last time.

Looking over your times, there was 8 minutes between the brass balls on hard achievement and the hardest difficulty achievement. I would suggest editing it better to state that once the game is completed, you can reuse the save and do it again on hard But only if you had the vitachambers disabled, but then, that should be a solution for the other achievement.

Let's back up though... can Brass Balls be earned playing the game on Easy and then changing the difficulty (the old Bioshock way)? It seems that Seriously Good can be done that way...

By Sashamorning on 15 Sep 2016 04:56
To Clarify, I think:

1) Play game on Easy
2) Half Way Through last jar of adam drained, change difficulty to Survivor this achievement.
3) Re-load save
4) Repeat 2, but change to hard instead.

Apparently it's impossible to get Brass Balls on anything but Hard (a bit stupid)

Just to note this achievement is seriously glitched. I played through the game doing all achievements in my first playthrough including Brass Balls. This achievement and the achievement for rescuing all little sisters did not pop.

I had to replay the final fight on a higher difficulty and then both popped. I retried on hard and then tried lower but only turning the difficulty upto survivor unlocked those last two.

Panic over but I thought I would update this incase anyone else struggles.

If you're like me, you played BioShock on the XB360 and play it on Hard all the time. Thus, the newer difficulty offers an upgraded challenge to the seasoned players of Hard difficulty, and if you want to get the achievement by actually playing the game on this difficulty, here are some tips.

1: The biggest difference, as you no doubt imagine, is that enemies both deal and soak more damage. Otherwise, the rest of the game is largely the same. Resources are as abundant as they typically are, so it isn't as though you will be starved for bullets or cash.

2: The most effective Big Daddy killer on this difficulty is Security Bullseye: either by targeting the Big Daddy when it walks in front of a hacked camera, or deliberately triggering an alarm with a failed hack and then targeting it. Let the Security Bots do the work for you. It will save health, ammo, and EVE.

3: Keeping #2 above in mind, that's also the best and quickest method to research Big Daddies, Security Bots, and if they are present when you attack, Little Sisters. All of your shots will be Action Shots and if you frame them correctly, shots with Multiple Subjects.

4: On the topic of research, if you are patient, you can complete all research for the Nitro Splicer, Gun Splicer, and Little Sister in Neptune's Bounty, while also getting a pretty good jump on the research for Rosies, Spider Splicers, and the various Security devices. In addition to damage bonuses, this will also give you a handful of tonics that can be very helpful, particularly Photographer's Eye 2 for Level 2 Rosie research, Security Expert 2 for Level 2 Security Bot research, and Static Discharge 2 for Level 4 Gun Splicer research.

5: Before you go to the Smuggler's Den, take a detour and go back to Medical Pavilion. Fully research the Thuggish Splicer there (they are a bit tougher in Arcadia) and to get the Sport Boost tonics and the additional damage benefits. If you killed a Bouncer your first time here, take your *first* Bouncer photo on the Bouncer's corpse, since that will automatically push you into the next tier of research with the weakest possible photo. You can then photograph the living Bouncers in Medical for better bonuses. If you have not completed any Gun Splicer or Nitro Splicer research, you can also do that in Medical.

6: If you want more ADAM, take advantage of the Extra Little Sister Bug. I can confirm that it works in this version of the game. The hardest one to take advantage of is the one in Arcadia as you have to be meticulous about triggering it, and you will not be able to use Security Bullseye to assist you. The easiest one to trigger is in Fort Frolic, so use it if you find yourself in need of additional upgrades. And since these trigger the rewards provided by Tenenbaum, if you are saving the Little Sisters, you will get the Tenenbaum rewards earlier in the game than you otherwise would. Again, this allows for quicker upgrades.

7: In the latter part of the game, the fully upgraded Chemical Thrower becomes potentially your best weapon. Combining Napalm with Human Inferno 1 and 2, or Electric Gel with Electric Flesh 1 and 2, on top of your research bonus, and Damage Research tonics 1 and 2, and most enemies go down very quickly.

8: Alternatively, the best weapon in the game can be the Wrench, but it requires Wrench Jockey 1 and 2, Wrench Lurker 1 and 2, the fourth Level of Bouncer Research, Damage Research 1 and 2, Frozen Field 1 and 2, Sport Boosts 1 & 2, and the all the other research bonus. It's a lot of combine, but it makes the Wrench capable of taking down Big Daddies.

9: The Fontaine fight can be finished without too much difficulty by equipping the following tonics: Human Inferno 1 & 2, Electric Flesh 1 & 2, Armored Shell 1 & 2, Eve Link 2, Sport Boost 1 & 2, Medical Expert 3, and then whatever else you feel will help you survive. Use the Chemical Thrower and Electric Gel for Rounds 1 and 2 of the fight. For round 3, use any remaining Electric Gel if you have it, and then switch to Napalm. NOTE: For rounds 2 and 3, as soon as Fontaine leaps out of the ADAM mechanism, hit him with the Security Bullseye. This will cause the Security Bots he summons at the start of those rounds to target him instead of you.

Hope this helps!

Excellent guide for players looking to earn this achievement the legit way.

One extra tip I would add for #2 is to locate a security bot shutdown panel while the Big Daddy is being attacked, because as soon as they're done shredding him, they'll turn on you. Or as an alternative, use Target Dummy until the timer runs out (this is also my preferred method for safely approaching and researching/hacking turrets.)

SPOILER

A simple method if you already finished the game in any dificulty, first start a New Game+ on EASY when you can go back to the menu, load the boss battle save and when you drain his Adam in the fourth time switch to SURVIVOR difficulty, and this will trigger the achievement toast

I do that method in 25/10/21
