How to unlock the Fully Researched Nitro Splicer achievement in BioShock Remastered - Definitive Guide

Nitro Splicers appear quite early in the game and are easily recognisable as they throw molotov cocktails at the player. They appear in the Medical Pavilion and you will encounter them frequently in Neptune's Bounty.

Unfortunately they start appearing less and less as the game progresses although you should encounter 1 or 2 in the later levels. If you are having trouble finding these it may be worth backtracking to Neptune's Bounty.

As with all subjects you must fill the research bar FIVE times. The bonuses for the Nitro Splicer are as follows:

1. Increased damage +
2. 15% chance a Nitro Splicer's grenade is a dud
3. Increased damage ++
4. 35% chance a Nitro Splicer's grenade is a dud
5. Increased damage +++

If you accidentally kill one before taking a snap then remember you can always photo the corpse.

While they do disappear for many levels after the beginning, no need to backtrack as Olympus Heights is chock full of them.

There are 5 levels to researching the Nitro Splicer and once the 5th level is maxed out, the trophy will pop. You can take your time and photograph all of the splicers in the game, getting good quality grades for each photo or do as I did and you can simply photograph each splicer enough times until the quality of the photos get too low and you can’t take photographs anymore and then move on to the next one.

To help you out in getting this a little faster, you can equip the Photographer’s Eye tonics which will increase the score of the photo. Photographer’s Eye you can find in the Farmer’s Market level in the Worley Winery cellar or you can buy it at a Gatherer’s Garden Station at Fort Frolic and onward. Photographer’s Eye 2 can be earned by getting to Research Level 2 with the Rosie Big Daddy.

Also if interested, here are the rewards for each level of research:
Level 1: Increased Damage
Level 2: Permanent 15% chance that an enemy grenade will be a dud.
Level 3: Increased damage
Level 4: Permanent 35% chance that an enemy grenade will be a dud.
Level 5: Increased damage
