How to unlock the Fully Researched Thug Splicer achievement in BioShock Remastered - Definitive Guide

Firstly, there are two tonics you'll want to make this easier.

Photographers Eye I - Located in Worley Winery's cellar in the Farmer's Market in a small shed, when you must gather the enzymes and water for the forest. Also can be bought at a Gathers Garden in Fort Frolic.

Photographers Eye II - Reward for reserving level 2 of the Rosie.

These will give you a combined boost of 25% in research.

Thuggish Splicers are plentiful in every level. They are melee attackers, usually using a pipe or wrench, so if you see a Splicer rushing you, they are likely a Thuggish Splicer.

They can be fully researched fairly quickly, probably before you even get the Photographers Eyes.

This achievement may not unlock after meeting the requirements, according to ICE Faux Pirate, I'm unsure of any way to force it to unlock, unfortunately.

I've completed this research but the achievement still shows 0% as if I haven't taken a single picture of a Thuggish yet. Anyone else have this issue?

Have you tried hard resetting? And are you online?

Tried everything that's worked in the past for cheevo's not popping. Someone started a thread in the forum about the first hack achievement not popping for them and others chimed in too. Looks like several cheevo's for this game are sketchy for a random population of gamers.

I got them all now. I cleared my cache and started a new game. All the achievements I struggled with before unlocked now.

Odd, I never had those issues, but glad it unlocked in the end.

This achievement for me was stuck in Arcadia, at 82% I then saved the game, and restarted the chapter without deleting my current save. And I tried to take the pictures as close as possible to the enemies. And so I did, I hope I helped.

There are 5 levels to researching the Thuggish Splicer and once the 5th level is maxed out, the trophy will pop. You can take your time and photograph all of the splicers in the game, getting good quality grades for each photo or do as I did and you can simply photograph each splicer enough times until the quality of the photos get too low and you can’t take photographs anymore.

To help you out in getting this a little faster, you can equip the Photographer’s Eye tonics which will increase the score of the photo. Photographer’s Eye you can find in the Farmer’s Market level in the Worley Winery cellar or you can buy it at a Gatherer’s Garden Station at Fort Frolic and onward.

Also if interested, here are the rewards for each level of research:
Level 1: Increased Damage
Level 2: Sportboost tonic
Level 3: Increased damage
Level 4: Sportboost 2 tonic
Level 5: Increased damage

Don't forget that you can take photos of both living and dead opponents.

In some cases, the game also counts dead splicers. I was very surprised when I took a photo of some corpse and it was credited to me.

Photos of dead enemies do NOT count, the game writes that such a photo has a “too low rating”, so we only take portraits of living and healthy splicers.
