To enchant you need available gear that has the ability to be enchanted, and you need applicable weapon or armor shards.
In the beginning, you can earn some of these shards from a few side quests.
Talk to the Black Spirit and go to the enchantment tab. Put in your gear and shard, and in the beginning most basic equipment will have 100% success rate, which is good for the achievements. But if you're here for the late game haul. It might be better to save them for the gear you have that matters.

I was able to upgrade the same pair of gloves five times so didn’t even have to have five different items. Thumbs up!

Oh man, that achievement brings a lot of nostalgia. When the game came out it wasn't as easy to find a way to get it. Some time had to pass by if you would want to get inspired by others. I got myslef somehow and was very happy about it that I did. Farming and grinding was a nightmare though so I gave up on my account and bought a new instead (https://mmoauctions.com/black-desert-online/accounts). Of course had a lot of more fond memories from when I was climbing that P2W ladder, but boy did you reminded me of it all :D Thx for that!
