There are 9 "found" items and 9 same items marked as "lost" (they placed upside down on the shelf). So, 18 lost and found items in total. You get 9 with fishing at specific spots (there are butterflies around) and 9 as rewards for side quests.

The Rose Toad will mark (some of) the treasures on your map, just talk to it at the Hut. You can keep coming back to it for more marks. They look like yellow X with red background on your map.
