This will come at the end of the second floor of the Maelstrom Military Base. You will face your first giant mech - there are lots later in the game, but this is the first time you'll encounter one. The approach will always be the same - damage the mech until it starts to flash red, then perform a finisher with
. Unlike standard enemies, this won't kill mechs directly but rather you'll get a cinematic of you cutting off a limb. This will stop the mech from using rapid fire attacks, and the mech will switch to missiles. Get back on the attack until the mech starts to flash red again, then do a second finisher with to put him down for good.
I've left a video for reference, as the first time I played I didn't appreciate the flashing red and tried to keep shooting - unlike standard enemies, you can't kill the mech this way, they will flash forever. You must use the double finisher moves on these guys.
