How to unlock the Last goodbye achievement in Blair Witch - Definitive Guide

This one requires you to get the good dog version of the good or bad ending.

Some tips:

Use the stay close prompt for bullet and call him back before he runs off too far for unimportant items, the ones that are not required to progress the story.

Destroy all totems you find asap, finding them all is not necessary but get as many as you can.

Pet him after he finds key items and if he brings you to a key item.

Don't send him into the tree in chap 13 just walk past.

And in chap 14 do the usual 5 min run until you pass out.

Also don't tell him off, doing this popped the cheevo after the end cut scene, I pet bullet about 100 times and never let him leave my side if you spam lb he will always come back then use the stay close prompt again, and i also followed his every move closely when leading a scent for a story required item.

I gave him treat at the very start, the second and third time you reach the camp.

I also did 3 pets for each event like after a fight or key item find.

Edit: People in the comments are reporting that collecting the 6 dog tags may be getting them better chances of getting the good dog endings, Though in my run i didn't collect any unnecessary collectables but you can to be safe and to further your chances of getting those good dog endings.

I just got this on my third playthrough with the bad ending since I destroyed all totems (or at least all the ones I came across)
-I pet Bullet around 30 times, or so I’d estimate (particularly after I killed monsters, destroyed totems, or took an item from him).
-I fed him all 3 treats by Chapter 9.
-I constantly pressed LB and used the “Stay Close” command when that wasn’t working.
-I quickly destroyed all totems that I came across (including the two that are hard to find in Chapter 13).
-I killed all monsters as quickly as I could and told him to stay back when I knew they were close (although this never really worked).
-I called the vet 3 or 4 times. I can’t remember. I’d say do it 4 just to be safe.
-I ran past the tree in Chapter 13 and did not send him inside it.
-I carried him for the full 5 minutes (obviously)

Hope this helps.

That's a fair point mate it should have been fairly obvious that i didn't know all the exact variables for this cheevo, this isn't a guide in how to complete the game with tape locations and such there are already enough of those out there, the person reading my solution is expected to know how to complete the game. I used treats at the same time as i said in all runs, used the stay close prompt the whole way through and told him to come back before he could run off for unimportant things, never used seek, didn't read the vet msgs, never told him to sit, never used the cart to get the camp b or the shed, i killed all monsters before they got close to bullet but he always growls their locations even when far as long as you engaged them or they saw you at least. in the times where he runs off for key items like with the candy wrapper leading to the red tape i simply follow him close as runs to the wrapper and tape, if you play fast bullet never gets time to grab random junk or files that are not important just keep running through the short game telling him to follow and he will always follow. i pet him 3 times whenever he finds a key item and after any event like a fight or puzzle. i don't pet him for collectibles because as i said he never gets time to find any.
i will remove the buggy part and i have said before for players to give advice and such. i will also remove my solution if someone makes a better and more concise one.

We're all missing something important, and that's calling the Vet at some point to learn that Bullet has a health condition (bad ear I think). I don't know when it has to be done, nor do I remember if it's a phone number or just a message left by the Vet, but there's something related to a Vet and Bullet's health. It has to be a factor. Maybe try calling when you see Bullet wounded before picking him up? Or do it right at the start, or after the flashback where you see the Sheriff giving you the dog.

I would also guess that when you give the 3 treats is a factor. It probably has to be done, or is worth more, if done after Bullet has been particularly brave or scared out of his mind, like recovering the Pressure Gauge, that sort of thing. Maybe destroying the Totems ASAP, before he start weeping in g-fear, is also a factor.

My last guess is that OP is mostly doing guess work here and talking out of his butt. He has the achievement but he's not sure how at all.

And yet some of us are reporting doing everything you said in up to 8 playthroughs, without unlocking the achievement, so you're obviously missing something.

Did you try giving Bullet the 3 treats at different times in each run? You say you don't think it matters, so you're not sure? Do you just play constantly spamming LB or do you actually always use the "Stay here/Heel" prompt that doesn't seem to be working that well? Have you read those messages from the Vet each time? Have you let him growl at monsters or have you killed every monster very fast so he wouldn't have to, maybe telling him to "Sit" a bit behind so he wouldn't have to be scared? Did you use the cart to go to the Shed and Camp B or did you walk with him? Have you ever used the "Go fetch" prompt at all so he would try and bring you back a collectible? If not, why aren't you mentioning not to attempt this in a "Garbage Man" run? And there are times that Bullet goes by himself to bring you back tapes, right? What did you do for those if he never left your side? Do you know where the tapes are and do you grab them yourself? If so where are they? Right now I could summarize your guide in 2 lines of text. It's not helping.

I have nothing against you personally mate, I don't want you to think that, but I'm so done with users creating half-assed "guides" just to be first, seconds after unlocking an achievement by luck, or sometimes even without having it unlocked at all. It's become common practice on this site, and we follow because we trust the guy, and waste hours or days of time. If your guide isn't perfect and you're not 100% sure of the facts, at the very least say so in red letters at the beginning instead of saying it's "buggy". It's not buggy, we just don't know all the factors.

Yeah, all these comments can make it a bit confusing. I just finished my 3rd play-through and got the achievement. This is what I did, basically followed what OP wrote:

- Destroy all the totems. I did them all, followed a guide. It doesn't seem to matter to do this asap. A few occasions I was close, bullet was crying and barking, and took a while for me to find it.
- I also knocked over those pile of rocks with a totem or what is it called? Bullet seems to be afraid of those as well. I think there are about 2 or 3 of those during the game, not sure if this counts or not.
- I killed all the monsters, not sure if it matters or not.
- I only petted bullet a few times, maybe 10 times total, not more. A few times when he brought me something, and just random at some spots in different chapters.
- Never told bullet off
- I didn't constantly spam the LB button to keep him close. I did it often though, but not a lot. He is usually close by anyways.
- I didn't sent him under the tree in ch13. Some people say it doesn't matter, but better safe than sorry..
- I kept holding him in ch14 until I passed out.
- I gave him the 3 snacks throughout the game. Around the time when I ended up at the campsite again.
- Never called the vet.
- I had the "become carver" ending (so bad ending?) with this 3rd play-through.
- I did not collect all the garbage in this run, already did that in a previous run.

Ok, hope it helps.

I am going to echo previous statements that this achievement is either heavily dependent on breaking the totems or - more likely - just plain glitchy AF. I already unlocked it in my first play-through per the guidelines laid out in the walk-through, but I thought, for research's sake, I'd try to get the "good dog" ending on my "Break The Cycle" play-through as well.

Repeating all the same steps I did the first time around (with the exception of breaking the totems) I got Bullet's bad ending, where he growls and leaves you to die. I never once reprimanded him, showered him with pets at every opportunity, ordered him to stay close through the whole game, didn't send him into the tree, exhausted all veterinarian phone calls, comforted him whenever a totem was present, carried him through the entire ravine, and gave him all treats by the end of the game. Hearing that others have done significantly less than that and managed to get the "good dog" ending pretty much confirms it's glitched. So yeah, definitely take the walk-through's advice and get this on your "Become Carver" play-through, because it's not a guaranteed pop.

I got this without breaking any totems and without killing anyone. Fed him treats throughout each chapter and petted him for abt 25 times through out the play though. Didn’t send him under tree on chapter 13 and carried him for 5 mins on chapter 14 before passing out. Collected 4 dog tags as well. The boy came and sat next to me in endgame scene and achievement unlocked.

All this time and we still don't know exactly what triggers this.

I got this on my blind playthrough today, doing these:

-Only used "Stay Close" 2 times during the whole game
-randomly broke/picked up totems and collectible items I came across
-Only called Jess and VA office
-pet and gave him snacks 3 times during the whole game at random points
-sometimes he was way far away from me scared and howling
-killed every monster I came across
-didn't send him under the tree
-carried him all the way in the loop
-scold him once
-used Seek around 10 times
-used the minecart to get to camps all the way

I got without breaking any totems, however i gave the dog all the 10 snacks and every time he gave me a item i would pet him. Also i did pet him for half an hour just to make sure everything would be ok. And it did.

I had 8 snacks left at the end and got it. When the guide on here said to give the dog a snack and that it should hopefully be your final one in your inventory, my heart sank. But still unlocked.

Some people feed and pet the dog a lot and don't get it. Some only do it twice and get it. Who knows?

My last cut scene I was becoming carver and the dog came out and looked at me from a distance and then walked off. The text said he was later found not in the greatest shape, but survived.

That’s frustrating. I did all of that except for the dog walk in chapter 14 my first time through. Because it looped the area three times I thought I had to drop him to continue.

I had such a strong feeling that the grave above the campsite was going to be for Bullet, especially with the note that's written on it. Alas, I can't go up to the grave at the 4th campsite.

Oh well, back to the sawmill to see if the tree makes a difference.

I got it 3hr after the solution i made it seems real buggy, it is much easier to get it in the bad ending rather than good but the only real difference is that bullet will sadly look at you then walk away rather than bark at you then run off. I did not visit the grave at all during my run.

Even though I've seen the dog at the end of every playthrough, and they tell me what happens to him, I still apparently don't know what happens to him.

Oh. Maybe because I'm DEAD. facepalm

I really expected this to be like Last Transmission. This POS is the only thing I have left. On to full play #6.

To elaborate i got the good dog version of the bad ending, the one where he sadly looks at you then walks off after you become carver. I can't confirm if getting the ending where bullet sits with you until you die gets you this cheevo but if you can confirm that tell me and i will edit my guide.

I got this cheevo from my first good dog run being the bad ending, the one where he looks at you sadly instead of barking after becoming carver, you can find all 4 endings easily on youtube if you wanna see for yourself but this should work with either of the good variations. a few people have said to me that it has not unlocked after getting the good endings and others have had it work with no problem. that's why i put a bug warning.

I did 3 2hr runs only doing what i said and achieved the good dog bad end every time Asturgis, people are still trying to fine tune this achievement, i didn't mention the vet msgs as Homunculus Fury stated they are there from the start. if i treated bullet well i got the good dog end everytime by keeping close, petting, don't let monsters get close to him, obviously break totems quick. if i treated him bad etc: ignoring him at any time, not petting, not breaking totems, not killing monsters quick, and not keeping him 2 feet away at all times i got the bad dog end unsurprisingly.

Just came here to say I literally speed run thru the game, going only for the pacifist and good ending achievement and it gave me the achievement for this, I even left Bullet instead of doing the 5 minute loop and I also never pet him or gave him any attention at all. Kind of random if you ask me.

I petted him regularly (every 10 minutes or so, especially if he was scared or had brought me something) gave all 3 treats throughout the game (whenever I returned to the campsite, if that matters), walked past the tree/cave without sending him in and obviously didn't abandon him in the ravine. I also destroyed every totem I could (did this at the same time as my collectible run) and killed every enemy I could. Got the bad ending, Bullet walks off sadly, achievement unlocked

I got this achievement on my 1st run and am not sure how. I didn't call the vet, didn't even know that was a thing you could do.

I used all of my treats in my play through. I used 1 at the beginning of the game, one after chapter 8 and 1 after he yelps when I sent him into the tree during chapter 13. I would pet him all of the time and would constantly tell him to stay close when he would start to wonder off. (And of course not put him down during the endless walking segment).

By josh3107 on 05 Sep 2019 16:37
@josh3107 interesting that you sent him into the tree and still got it. I feel like petting him often is the most important thing but I can't prove it. On my first playthrough I petted him every now and then, and didn't get it. When going for this and petting him a lot more, I saw other petting animations (e.g him rolling on the floor or licking Ellis) that I never saw on my first playthrough. If the game operates on a point system, I wonder if you can game it by simply petting him over and over (e.g 50 times) to boost it. I don't think its buggy though, just obtuse. The cutscene of him walking away sadly at the end is very distinct and should net you the achievement

I got this by petting occasionally (normally after he brought me something) and feeding him the treats randomly. Destroyed all totems as I was on a photo run but not sure if that matters.

I also used LB moderately often but only when I ran ahead of him. Didn't send him in to the tree and carried him until I passed out.

Here's my addition...

I did the steps mentioned by Leebbullough,
-Broke the totems that scared him.
-Called him back when he walked off.
-Patted him after finding / bringing something.
-Didn't send him into the tree (what's in there anyway?)
-Carried him

The only extra thing I did was when using the rail to get to the sawmill I checked on him (There appears to be three different prompts).

Maybe helped maybe didn't but it got me mine. I was on run number three.

I sort of overlooked this achievement thinking it was part of a good/bad playthrough. Ended up costing me an extra run, luckily no more than that. Anyway, I focused on keeping the dog close to me at all times, and interacting with him a lot more overall (seek, keep close, stay and pet of course). I made a backup save at the start of Ch14 in case I would have to spam pets to boost affinity as a last resort -- luckily it never came to that.

Thanks to everyone who posted their 2 cents! +1

I think this is just a glitchy POS achievement. My first playthrough, I fed all the treats, pet constantly, called Bullet back to my side constantly, destroyed the totems, didn't send him into the cave, didn't set him down after he was hurt, and I got the good dog ending. Didn't pop. Third playthrough, I did all the same things and periodically called the vet on top of it, got the same ending, and it popped that time. But others have gotten it to pop without calling the vet so I don't see how that could've been what made the difference.

Is this possible to get this one and break the cycle at once? I already did 2 playthroughs and even though I just got pacifist and did everything perfect with the dog It didn’t unlock. Now, that I’m about to try a third one and it’s recommended to break totems for the dog and leave them for break the cycle I was wondering, as I would like to avoid 2 others complete plays for those lasts 2.

@ParadoxReal8 Yeah you can get both on 1 playthrough, they should both unlock if you manage a good dog good ending run which can be done but that is an rng mess it seems, I took a playthrough each for break the cycle and last goodbye personally as it's much safer and easier that way. thanks for the compliment on your pm. smile

Can confirm that you do not need to break any totems to get this. I was able to get Break the Cycle, Pacifist, and Last Goodbye all on one playthrough using the strategies provided in the walkthrough.

as i said somewhere else on ta you can still get the good ending even with some kills and totem breaks there seems to be a point system for humane acts against rage, killing and breaking totems, and then there is the game tracking some kind of bullet affection points so the good dog good ending is some sweet spot between all of the acts, humane, bullet, rage.
it reminds me of the weird mix of ending requirements in layers of dark where i did the exact same thing for 2 runs and got different endings at one point.

They are almost exactly the same i'll summarise quickly, the good and bad ending both have 2 variations depending on bullet affection. the bad dog bad ending is where after becoming carver bullet barks twice at you then runs off, the good dog bad ending is bullet slowing walking away then he looks sadly at Ellis after he becomes carver then continues walking away. the bad dog good ending is where after you fall down dying after carver stabs you bullet will walk past Ellis and give a little growl as he dies, the good dog good ending is tricky to get and its where bullet sits with you until you die. he always gets to the Shannons house and never dies. to add the kid being stabbed dead or being found after walking for 3 days is anyone's guess. on my 2nd playthrough he was alive and the 3rd dead both having been bad dog bad endings.

Alright so, I just got the achievement first try and I'll tell you everything I did in my run.

first of all, I did call the vet at the beginning. I gave all 3 treats to Bullet before chapter 5. I destroyed all the totems. I found all the garbage, pics, dolls and notes. I did use "Seek" option many times. at chapter 8, I noticed he gets so far left behind so I used "Stay close" until the end since there(I think this is one of the major impacts for Bullet's good/bad behavior). also, the game warns you at the beginning to stay close to Bullet for your mental health. so It's probably the same for Bullet. I pet him around 20 times (when he brought me something and after I destroyed a totem) I never scolded him. only once told him to stay outside of the Sawmill while I searched inside. I DID NOT kill any enemy.(pacifist run) didn't tell him to go under the tree at chapter 13. did the 5 minutes loop with him and I got the bad ending with him walking away from me sadly.
I don't remember all of the game If anyone has a question about a specific part of the game, ask me.

EDIT: also I didn't use the mine cart to get to Maintenance shed and camp B. I think collecting the garbage has a good impact on Bullet's behavior. anyone can confirm?

I finally got this on my 3rd playthrough. I followed the main guidelines of many of the people who commented. I'll put my 2 cents in and just list what actions I took:
1. Any time Bullet brought me something, I petted him when given the chance. And periodically I would pet him too just because. I never scolded him at all.
2. I used up all the doggie treats by Chapter 8 (?). My final one given after I fixed the logging machine and about to get on the train to the sawmill.
3. I did call the vet 3 times. (I think that may be important as I didn't do that on my first playthrough)
4. I checked on Bullet on the train cart 3 times (whenever he would whimper).
5. I didn't tell him to go into the evil tree, nor did I put him down during the 'carry him in the loop' part.
6. I did tell him to 'Stay Close' quite a bit. Especially when there were monsters around.
7. I only destroyed the totems where he started to whine and bark and point towards. And there are two 'totems'/piles of rock he barks at that I kicked over too. I think those are important.
8. I played an almost 'Pacifist' playthrough avoiding the monsters so he wouldn't get upset. I killed only one on the train cart. He growled at monsters but that was it. I walked and didn't run when monsters were around so he would stay close. Otherwise I did run to stay close to him when he was fetching something.

I played it as 'keep Bullet as calm and close as possible' and it popped for me last night.

Just for reference, I got this achievement the first time I tried/went for it.

What I did:
I pet bullet all the time. I did 3/4 times after every key event or everytime he hands me an item.

I broke every totem (including the ones in the house after bullet is gone)

I didn’t make bullet run into the tree

Walked the full 4-5 minutes in the ditch

Didn’t reprimand him a single time

I gave bullet 2 snacks after every key event or cutscene.

I spammed stay close and called him back to me almost every damned second

I constantly checked on him in the rail car with lb.

I also had 2 snacks left that I never gave him.

In the end I got the bad ending for breaking all the totems (even though I ran pacifist) and I got this achievement for bullet. Hope I helped somebody

Hello cheevo hunters! There is a lot of information in the great solution that Leebbullough provided especially in the comments section, however, I was not fortunate enough to read it but still managed to pop the cheevo.

What I DID:
Fed all the doggy treats to bullet pretty early in the game
Called him a lot and never let him wonder for a long time (just spam LB from time to time)
Pet doggo around 10-12 times during the playthrough

What I DID NOT do and still got the cheevo:
I did not call the Vet at any point (just was not aware)
I did not send Bullet under the three in chapter 13
I did the full walk carrying Bullet in chapter 14 (it is at least 4-5 min)
I did not collect all the dog tags in the same playthrough I got the cheevo on. I collected just a few (I already collected them in a previous playthrough and I'm not sure whether this makes any difference since you start a new game each time)

And finally, I don't know whether it makes any difference but I have not killed both the sheriff and the lumberman in the final chapter.

I hope this helps let me know in the comments if i missed something or if I need to amend the solution.

Happy hunting toastrock

Dropped at the end of the 2nd playthrough. But the mechanics of the drop itself are not yet completely clear.

Need to:
1. Try not to let the dog go far from you.
2. Feed 3 times.
3. Pet as much as possible per game.
4. At the end of the game, do not let go of the bullet until the very end.
5. (Possibly) Destroy totems that get in the way of Bullet and, in general, preferably all totems.
If in the final cut-scene Bullet remains with us, then the achievement is ours.
PS If anyone has any additions, please correct me.

I agree with the tip above. The trophy dropped after the second playthrough. He praised the whole game, fed him, didn’t send him to the kennel, carried him in his arms until the last moment, until he lost consciousness. Maybe some of this is taken into account, I don’t know)

It is not necessary to feed 3 times, the trophy fell out on its own, although I only fed it 2 times.

Rather a glitchy achievement. Or there is a very unclear condition for obtaining it

When going to the bad ending
Fed 3 times
Broke signs
Occasionally praised
Sent to the hole
Carried it to the end

When passing on a good
Fed 3 times
Didn't break the signs
Praise more often
Didn't send it to the hole
Carried it to the end

The achievement did not occur. Both times, in the afterword about the fate of the dog, they said that she survived.
There is no desire to go through a third time for this achievement.

I got it on my first playthrough, the trophy is easy and, no, it’s not buggy, as written above.
What I did:
He praised every time Bullet found something.
He just praised me periodically.
Constantly pressed LB so that the dog would be nearby.
I fed him periodically, 5-7 times throughout the game.
He carried the dog until he fell.
He actively used the dog’s skills.

I did everything described above, but it’s not for nothing that I have the veterinarian’s number in my phone. He called him constantly until the answering machine started answering. It seems to me that this is one of the conditions for obtaining the achievement. There are a lot of achievements tied to the phone.

People are arguing with all their might what is taken into account and what is not. I'll go through the points.
You can’t scold, but you need to praise as often as possible.
Feed all three treats.
Don't throw it into a tree, just walk by.
Carry to the last, do not abandon your tailed comrade.
They also advise you to stay close, but I didn’t pay any attention to where my dog was running.
And everyone says that it is necessary to break totems with photographs, but this is not certain.
At the end, the game sums up and tells in text what happened to all the characters. I completed it doing everything as described above, got a bad ending and a text saying that the dog was eventually found and everything was ok with him. Achievement dropped. But many people just can’t get it at all, so either there is some extremely unclear condition, or the achievement may be glitchy. I got it on my first playthrough without any problems.

Since the trophy does not have clear conditions, I’ll tell you how it was given to me:
issued during the second playthrough, in which I collected all the collectibles (garbage, photographs, totems). Since I broke the signs for the sake of photographs, the ending turned out bad (I didn’t break the stone stacks). On my second playthrough, I had 10 treats for Bulet and fed them to him as the game progressed. He constantly stroked me, so much so that he even licked me and let me scratch my belly. I didn’t send him to the hole. I carried it in the cave until the very end. simultaneously performed as a pacifist. The final video and description of the fate of the bullet did not remain the same as during the first playthrough (when they did not give the trophy).

I got it like this: I stroked the dog after every meeting with monsters, after breaking totems and periodically just like that, fed him all the treats, always called him to me and gave him the command “near”, didn’t send him into the hole, didn’t scold him, carried him all the way, collected everything dog tags (although maybe they weren’t needed). He almost didn’t collect figurines and photographs, didn’t listen to Carver, didn’t touch the sheriff or the other guy.
