How to unlock the BOSS BLASTER achievement in Blaster Master Zero - Definitive Guide

The only boss that can give you trouble in beating this mode is Invem Sophia (the True Final boss of the game). This is because people run out of SP too fast to know what is going on. Fortunately, I found a way to defeat it without using up all your SP. This can be a tricky fight if you don't know what you're doing.

But first, you need to complete the game 100% to unlock Boss Blaster Mode. This mode allows you to take on all bosses (except enemy rush rooms like the Thousand Vios, S-1000 Generator, etc.), and your time in how long you defeat them is recorded. The time you take does not matter as long as you beat the mode.

The general strategy for the top-down bosses is to avoid enemy attacks as much as possible, build up and recover your Gun Level, health, and Sub-Weapon ammo in between fights, use Turrets to distract the bosses if needed and when necessary.

There are 17 bosses that you have to fight. 13 of them are top-down view, 4 of them are side-scrolling.

Top Down
-Drap Trappers
-Mother Brain (two of them if playing Co-op)
-Crabularva
-Crabullus
-Photophage
-Spark Salamander
-Gurnahide
-Hard Shell
-Remote Blaster
-Ancient Freeze
-Venom Master
-Antibody Cell
-Underworld Lord & Multidimensional Overlord

Side-Scrolling
-Central Gear
-Ribbiroll
-Skeleton Boss
-Invem Sophia

Most of the bosses you fight here are simple to beat if you played the game enough. But there are three things you have to keep in mind in this mode:
1. Energy Guard and Remote Blast are unavailable
2. Jason and Sophia are always capped at 8 points of health
3. Sophia III is the vehicle used the whole time - no Sophia Zero for you!

The boxes in the top-down room respawn their pickups only AFTER you defeat a boss, so make those items count!

Invem Sophia Fight
There are several key differences about this fight, compared to the main game mode:
-Because you are unable to use Sophia Zero in this mode, Invem Sophia's health has been significantly scaled down in order to defeat it in a more reasonable amount of time with Sophia III's arsenal.
-Invem Sophia never shuts down
-The top-down segment of this fight is not present, which means Invem Sophia always starts out at full health.

You only need your Crusher Shots, Spark Tackle, and Shield Mines for this fight. Select the Shield Mines, as they are important for blocking most of Invem Sophia's attacks. They pop out in front of Sophia III, so pay attention to what direction you're facing in.

When the battle starts, begin moving towards Invem Sophia while firing a small barrage of your Crusher Shots. It'll open up the fight by charging an Acceleration Blast, so get behind the boss! The firing animation lasts for four seconds. Before the animation ends, head back to the far left side of the screen and lay down a Shield Mine. Fire a few Crusher Shots and wait for it to jump. You'll see it do two Laser Shots and then stop. When Invem Sophia lands, spam your Crusher Shots against it to do some good quick damage. This is the basic pattern it does while it's on the ground.

When Invem Sophia flies up and then descends, it'll do one of four things in order while sometimes firing a Homing Missile (countering these attacks are in bold):
1st Descent: Invem Sophia will fire two sets of Warhead Missiles; one mid descent and one on the ground. Counter by using a Shield Mine while staying at the far edge of a side.

2nd Descent: Invem Sophia will roll towards you and use Spark Tackle, which does 3 points of damage. Counter by using the same attack. Also note that the boss will jump with you if you jump.

3rd Descent: Invem Sophia will float in the air, sending down three Thunder Breaker strikes. Counter by jumping and using Spark Tackle against the boss in the air.

4th Descent: Invem Sophia will quickly drop four Shield Mines across the field. These are invulnerable by non-piercing shots, but can be destroyed with AoE attacks like Spark Tackle to get recovery capsules. You'll need to get to the other side if Invem Sophia descends down from the opposite of where you are.

Every time after each descent, Invem Sophia will go back to its regular attacking pattern and then fly upwards. You'll probably have to deploy two Shield Mines instead of one. The only way it can use Acceleration Blast again is if you get it down to 50% health. In that case, utilize the same strategy you did at the start of the fight. After this, the descents Invem Sophia does will now be randomized so you need to look closely to see what it is doing to counter it's attacks.

That's really all you need to do: take the fight from side to side. By using the Shield Mines and Spark Tackle, you'll be able to pull through. After you defeat Invem Sophia, all the other bosses will be easy.

Good luck on this, and please ask me some questions if you need help or any strategies to be added.

They also respawn if you die, so if you really don't care about your time, you can get killed repeatedly against a tank boss to build up Jason's blaster rifle levels.

Excellent solution thumbs up. Knowing the pattern going in rather than trial and error was a huge time saver. Only took a handful of tries.
