How to get characters:
— Complete story quests (Story/Sub-Story + some Event)
— Buy ​​characters in the Characters section for Spirit Orbs (1 - 25 SP / 10 - 150/200/250 SP)

— Buy ​​characters in Shop → Exchange → Coin Exchange (character 4★ - 100K / 5★ - 200K)
- Receive free character packs every day (10 days) in honor of the game launch on Xbox in the Summons section (maybe a temporary promotion)
— Upgrade characters to the maximum rating (Lvl Up/Ascend; Evolve from 1★ to 6★)
- Use the tickets you received (Summons/Premium) at the end of the Characters section

How to get Spirit Orbs: (required to purchase characters)

- Log in to the game every day (Daily Login)

Where to track characters:
Until the recent update, you could go to the settings and there was an Album section where they showed only the collection of collected characters without duplicates. Now it is not there and it is unclear where they shoved it.
