How to unlock the Cleric Beast achievement in Bloodborne - Definitive Guide

The Cleric Beast trophy is awarded for killing the Cleric Beast and will likely be the first trophy you obtain in Bloodborne. The beast itself can be found on the Great Bridge in Central Yharnam and is the first boss fight in the game. Yharnam can be a bit of a maze, especially for the uninitiated, so I'll provide some directions for you.

Directions
To reach the boss, start at the Central Yharnam lantern. Head down the right hand set of stairs in front of you. As you cross a small bridge you will see a street down below and a mob of hunters and townsfolk ambling further into the city. Make your way down to this street and follow the mob, clearing them out as you go. As you round the bend, you will see a massive bonfire, surrounded by more hunters. You will need to clear them all out or make a mad dash past them, up the left hand set of steps and through a door into the courtyard beyond.

On the other side of the courtyard is a set of steps. Make your way up these steps, clearing out a pair of dogs and their attendant hunters. One more flight of steps gets you to one end of the Great Bridge. To your right you should see a pair of beasts blocking your path. If your skilled enough, take these two on and clear the way forward. The Cleric Beast will be at the far end of this bridge (see Boss Fight further down).

If you don't want to fight the beasts, there are some alternatives. Return to the courtyard and look along the fence for some destructable debris. It conceals a gap in the fence that will let you drop down to a lower road. Some mangy dogs guard a group of dog cages but past them is a route passing under the Great Bridge. You'll enter a dark house; the denizens insides will attack you if you get too close. If you take the stairs up and out of the house, you'll end up on the Great Bridge, past those two beasts from before. If you take the first floor exit and continue through the house, you'll open up a shortcut back to the Central Yharnam lantern.

There are additional paths through the streets that lead to the Central Yharnam sewers but since these are longer and more involved, I'll leave them for you to discover.

Boss Fight
Once you make it to the end of the Great Bridge, the Cleric Beast will climb over the far wall and drop down to fight you. Once a hunter and cleric of the Healing Church, the Beast is now lost to the curse and cannot be tamed.

He'll attack you with a variety of moves, usually sweeping at you with his long left arm or smashing his fists into the ground in front of him. The key to the fight is close quarters combat; you're firearm won't do any damage from a distance and if you get too far away, the Beast will leap into the air and smash down in front of him with a decent ranged attack.

Your lock-on on the boss can be helpful; it makes circling around him much easier and keeps you on target when he looms above you. However it's easy to lose track of your surroundings while locked on, often leading to you getting cornered or trapped on an obstacle followed by furious smashing from the Beast. Use it as you see fit. You should be able to dodge between the Beast's legs as he attacks you. Staying behind the Beast keeps you out of range of his melee attacks and gives you some time to do damage. If you're not fast enough when dodging his close up grabs, he'll haul you into the air and smash you down fast, dealing massive damage.

Keep dodging and slashing at him as often as possible. Back off and use a Blood Vial if you need too. Be swift in attacking him after he's done damage to you; you'll get back some of your health if you can do damage to him in return. If you do die, you can return to the Hunter's Dream and talk to the Doll, who will help you use your Blood Echoes to level up. If you find any Blood Stone Shards while exploring Yharnam, you can use them to level up your weapons at the Workshop in Hunter's Dream too.

If you are victorious, the Cleric Beast will drop the Sword Hunter Badge and will give you access to the Great Bridge lantern. Congratulations!

Before going to this boss, upgrade your weapon and level. This is done by clearing all available nooks and crannies, in the corner of one of which lies the “Madman’s Skull”, which, when used, gives you 1 enlightenment point, which allows you to level up in “Hunter’s Dream”. Also, thorough clearing and rummaging around the corners will bring you 8 “bloodstones”, with the help of which the selected weapon will be upgraded to +2.

PS the boss can be stunned like regular mobs.

PSS If everything is really bad, on the way to the boss you can find Flagus Oil and Molotov Cocktails, throw oil and cocktails at the boss in turn, it takes a lot of health.

If the boss still turns out to be difficult and impassable for you, or you just don’t want to bother, then you can call Father Gascoigne for help. He is summoned using the “Old Hunting Bell” (for “Insight” he summons old hunters)... and this will cost you 1 “Insight”.
The first summoning point for Gascoigne is at the idle fountain, where the thug stands and knocks on the gate. The second one is on the stairs, immediately after turning left from the Central Yharnam lamp down the stairs, on the first flight by the lamppost. Gascoigne can only be called into battle if you have not killed him yet. The call works offline, without a PS Plus subscription.
I also advise you to clear the road to the boss from enemies in advance, Father Gascoigne likes to get involved in all the fights along the way... and by the time the battle with the boss he may have very little health left. If, after all, Father Gascoigne’s health has suffered, lead him back to the idle fountain (if you called him there, like me) and go down the vertical stairs (located near the window with the red lantern) and run a little forward around the location, Father Gascoigne is behind you will not go, and you go back up the same stairs - Father Gascoigne’s health will be normal again.
PS I called him quite by accident at a non-working fountain, having never visited the “Church Monster”, but where could I go)) They killed him with Gascoigne the first time... Happy hunting everyone!

First, one insight point.

Secondly, it does not allow pumping.

Location:

You'll almost certainly go to this boss first.

from the "Central Yharnam" lantern we go right, then right again, along the way we kill a violent mob, right, there we clear two. Let's take our time going down the stairs, there will be a crowd there. We wait for her to pass and begin to lure out the opponents one by one. We kill them right up to the carriage, then wait until they leave. Leaning on the carriage, a man with a gun will sigh languidly, it can be painful to thrust between the shoulder blades if you forget about it, then we rise, on the right there will be a corpse in a drop, and on the right around the corner there is a man in ambush, we kill, we go to the right, there again a man will jump out of the ambush, so we jump back in time , then we kill him. we run straight, most likely they have already noticed you and are running behind, during this time you must kill the only man at the moment with a torch next to you. Afterwards you kill the newcomers one by one. Then run to the grate, behind which there will be an inaccessible corpse with a light, and on the left there will be a hole in the fence, jump into it and in front there will be either two men who need to be killed, or they will be patrolling a little further away. A dog is hiding behind the carriage ahead, it must be killed immediately. Then we go in from behind and kill the guy with a gun, then the arrow on the carriage and one by one we kill the rest. Then we run straight along the left side, then to the right, at the top of the stairs there will be a dog, we kill him, at the far end of the area there is another dog, we don’t run to him right away, we wait for 4 enemies on the right, we kill one by one by luring them out. We rise and go to the right (there is a path on the left through the sewer, but you will have to make a huge hook to cut off 10 meters). But you have to pay for the shortcut. Remember that werewolf at the beginning of the game? Now there will be two of them with full health. Here, as always, we lure one at a time and throw Molotov cocktails at them. We go further forward, there is an ambush on the left, straight ahead again, we kill the Ravens and the giant and here he is your boss.

You can also call an NPC to fight the boss, who has many lives and will distract attention.

Located: Central Yharnam lamp, down the stairs on the left.
