You should be able to use Invincibility Mode AND the Clear Area assist option and get a better score all around and achieve this with no problem at all. In the same breath you should unlock the achievement below too

The first time I beat 2-2 I got a C rating and didn't unlock the Deer Hat. I went back again with Invincibility and Clear Area and got an S ranking and unlocked the hat. It seems the hat doesn't unlock automatically after beating the level, you have to get a B or better.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Sometimes you're able to see the parameters to unlock the hat before the silhouette of the disappears
