How to unlock the Big Game Hunting! achievement in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon - Definitive Guide

Boss Rush is unlocked after getting the ending where you sacrifice all the other adventurers, unlocking
Bloodstained: Curse of the MoonSecret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon worth 282 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

In case you were wondering, this is done by simply killing them as soon as you meet them, don't talk to them at all. It can then be accessed from the main menu, not from the modes list since it does not have a save file of its own.

Before you select the option, you can hold cn_LB, cn_RB, cn_B and cn_X to activate cheats. cn_LB actually makes the bosses harder, so instead just hold cn_RB + cn_B + cn_X and hit cn_A. This will make it so you get to play as Ultimate Zangetsu, with his charge attack and double jump, and also gives you infinite weapon energy. Very handy, and it does not affect the achievement. Thanks to Jakez123 for tipping me off on this.

You will predictably enough be fighting each boss in order, and you can choose subweapons for each character in between fights, as well as heal with two big hearts. Your subweapons are reset after every fight, so make sure to pick them up again even if you don't want to change them.

The bosses all behave as normal, which is to say they are not the upgraded Nightmare/Ultimate versions. They do however do a bit more damage than normal, and you don't have any health upgrades, so keep that in mind.

Assuming this is one of your last achievements, you should be very familiar with all of these bosses. The hardest ones are probably the second and last boss, but with infinite weapon energy, you can spam most of them to death before they can do much. Miriam's triple dagger makes very short work of just about everyone if you mash the button, and if you activate Albert's lightning magic beforehand and let it fly around and do its thing, things will go even faster. His fire shield is great too if you just want to be safe. Zangetsu's fire buff power combined with his charge attack also downs some bosses very quickly, especially boss 5 and 6. As usual, if one character gets close to death, switch to a different one, and make sure you heal the right people between fights.

If you have any questions or need advice about any specific boss, feel free to leave a comment. Good luck!

Nice write up but how do you sacrifice all characters?

Just kill them all as soon as you see them, don't talk to them at all.

Probably doing something wrong but I've just finished the game and got the achievement for sacrificing all adventurers but there is no boss rush option to choose on the menu...

That's when it unlocked for me, but I suppose it's possible that it also requires some of the endings I got before that one.

Ah okay, I'll report back when it unlocks, see if it makes it any clearer what endings unlock it, or it could just be a certain number of endings needed maybe.

I sacrificed everyone first playthrough, ignored everyone second pt, and saved everyone 3rd pt. That's when it unlocked for me. So I think you either need all 3, or just the saving and sacrificing endings.

You need three distinct endings to unlock Boss Rush mode from what I've read.
Also the cheat in the solution doesn't just give you infinite magic, it respawns all hearts and subweapons after they've been used and after a boss fight making this achievement way easier.

I have all the achievements besides this one. It doesn’t seem to be unlocked for me? Am I missing something or is this a bug?

The infinite magic cheat plus Albert lightning spam made this a cakewalk laugh thanks! I just cast tons of lightning and then switched to ult Zan to move to safety when needed.

One of the hardest trophies in the game, you must defeat a gauntlet of 9 bosses. IF you play it legit, anyway. From the title screen, select the Boss Rush mode. In this mode you have to defeat bosses from Stages 1 – 8, including both forms of Gremory.

You start off in a hub screen that you return to in between every boss. There are several items in here, but note that you can only use each item ONCE. If you collect secondary weapons, they will not re-spawn. Also note that no characters have a default secondary weapon, including Gebel's Metamorphosis.

You also have all four playable characters. If one dies, you return to the hub to continue. Boss Rush mode continues until all four player characters die or you return to the title screen. Your life does not refresh, so you must be cautious. There are two heart life drops in the hub, but they also do not respawn.

Some tips for clearing this mode:

  • As you practice, try to master Miriam for her greater range.
  • If you can, beat the first 3 or 4 bosses without getting hit, or at least as little as possible.
  • Using Gebel against Bloodless is good. You can stand on the middle umbrella and hit her without getting hit, only avoiding her attacks.
  • Using Alfred's Fire Scroll against Gremory's first form will really help reduce damage.
  • On that note, you can swap characters with the Fire Scroll active, transferring the shield to other characters until it wears out.

If you're having difficulty there are some cheats you can implement and still earn the trophy.

CHEATS

From the title screen, you can hold buttons on your controller when launching Boss Rush mode to implement a few changes.

The cheats are as follows:

Refreshed hub in between bosses, including health
Unlimited weapon energy
Zangetsu with all the Soul Arts
Nightmare difficulty bosses

So if you hold + + and press to enter Boss Rush, you will unlock Zangetsu with all his Soul Arts, unlimited weapon energy and a hub that refreshes every time you return to it.

The cheats do not disable the trophies.
