Simply "run away" during a fight. This is convenient to do while you are also going for the "attacks from behind" achievement or the "100 multi-monster battles" achievement since you can use the same monsters for each of those.
Run away is a choice when you are choosing whether to attack or use an item, etc.

Another thing to note is that if you scroll for the escape button on Shu it wont be there until disc 3 (not saying why) but every other character has it

Pretty much any time I try this, it says 'miss'. Any advice on how to increase the chance of being able to flee?
