How to unlock the Speed Demon achievement in Blur - Definitive Guide

To get this, you must reach set speeds WITHOUT using Nitro.

The following video is very helpful on how to get this achievement. However, he didn’t list the info for what he used and on what course so I’ll give that to you now. The format is CLASS (SPEED REQUIRED)– CAR on EVENT# of CAREER MODE SECTION:

Class D (150 mph) – Chevrolet Camaro (Rat) on Event 2 of Proving Grounds
Class C (160 mph) - FOOSE 69 Camaro on Event 3 of Crash and Burn
Class B (175 mph)– Volkswagen Golf W12 650 on Event 1 of Ruthless Aggression
Class A (200 mph) – Dodge Challenger SRT8 (Race) on Event 1 of Double Damage

***NOTE*** - You do not need to finish the race in order for this to count! Once you see that stat tracker in the bottom left corner pop up, you can press START and select QUIT. Your progress on this achievement is saved once the stat tracker pops up.

EDIT: Changed my terminology from Race to Event to avoid confusion.

EDIT #2: xLSx willard3 reports that airbrake does work. However, since I only rented the game I cannot test this out and confirm it myself. However, follow my guide and you won't even need to try using airbrake. Regardless, thanks for reporting this info willard!

EDIT #3: We have 3 confirmations that airbrake DOES work. Thanks to all who tested and confirmed.

I actually found that airbraking DOES work. I got this over a long period of time, but seemed to remember always airbraking when I got the different sections. Tried airbrake with the class D section, and the achievement unlocked.

Complete the following tasks WITHOUT using a Regular Nitro (See Update):

150 MPH in a class D car in Amboy.
(I used the Rat Rod in the Proving Grounds section of Career, Race 2)

160 MPH in a class C car in Docks.
(I used the FOOSE 69 Camaro in the Crash and Burn section of Career, Race 3)

175 MPH in a class B car in Downtown.
(I used the BMW M3 E92 (Drift) in the Ruthless Aggression section of Career, Race 1)

200 MPH in a class A car in Shutuko.
(I used the Audi R8 4.3 FSI quattro in the Double Damage section of Career, Race 1)

UPDATE 8/5/11: Mental Knight 5 from the comments mentioned that you can use Reverse Nitro and it doesn't count as using Nitro. I hadn't tried it just because it uses the Nitro powerup, but apparently it works.

Just to add that you can get this in the Double Damage section in Race 1.
Thanks for the solution, Mr Barber.

@Mercer 2K8: That one can be quite difficult to get because of the lack of straightaways, but the only thing I can really tell you to help you is to take the straightest route and after a few tries you should be able to get it. You also may want to try using Shields on sharp corners to save you from losing more speed.

I found this really glitchy to get, if I achieved the required mph on a retry it wouldn't show up. Had to quit out to the race selection and then back in again to get it to work.... weird...

Wow, got to 200 MPH three times in a row on Shutoko without success, with the Koenigsegg. Sticker wouldn'T pop up. Changed my car to Shannon's Opel, did it again and it popped up, wTF.

I had a lot of trouble with Class C, until I read in the other solution that you can use Airbrake (Reverse Nitro).

This is a more detailed guide then the other 2. I hope this helps anyone that may be stuck on this achievement.

For Class D you need to hit 150 mph. For this I used the ACS1 Coupe on Amboy in the Proving Grounds. The main problem I had was the stupid AI kept either hitting me or getting in my way. An easy solution for that is to back up some at the race race then count to like 9 or 10 before taking off this way the AI will be way ahead of you and letting you focus on your speed. I got this around the airport area shortly before the lap marker.

For Class C you need to hit 160 mph. For this I used the Foose 69 Camaro on Crash and Burn in the LA Docks. This one can be a bit of a pain if your like me and can’t drive to good. What I did was at the start of the race I just moved my car back as far as I could then just took off and by the time you get to your first sharp turn you’ll be really close so instead of turning just keep going toward the wall. I got it like a split second before hitting the wall.

For Class B you need to hit 175 mph. For this I used the Volkswagen Golf W12 650 on Crash and Burn in La Downtown. The main problem I was having with this was the AI cars kept crowding a small section that I needed to pass and I’d end up hitting them trying to get through. Whereas shooting the small green cars would get them out of the way it was usually the yellow cars that would stop me because they take 3 shots to kill & drop a mine after they die. To avoid all the hassle you’ll need to back-up the entire track till your back at start then just navigate the few turns this track has and you’ll get it.

For Class A you need to hit 200 mph. For this I used the Koenigsegg CCX-R on Double Damage in Tokyo Shutoko. What I did was back-up a bit and let the AI get a bit of a headstart then I just played race normally, I got it after going through the last leg of lap 1 and the first sharp turn after changing laps. This place has a lot of straightaways so it shouldn’t be to hard to get.

If you give me thumbs down please tell me why in the comments section.

For this trophy you must reach a certain speed, on a certain level, in a certain car class without using a Nitro Power-up. Before attempting all of the set speeds, let your opponents pull away so you don't have to worry about unneeded power up attacks , wait at the starting line for 20 seconds or more. Set the difficulty to hard so the A.I actually go fast enough to keep a large gap

Hit 150mph in a class D car in Amboy
Choose Event 5 in Proving Grounds and pick the Rat Rod.
Near the end of the lap you'll come across a run down airport and a long straight away to its left. Build up speed before this and then go for it on that straight away.

Hit 160mph in a class C car in Docks
Choose Event 3 in Crash and Burn and pick the 69 Camaro.
There are two spots you can hit 160mph, near the beginning after the first ramp there is a long straight away to the left and at the end of the lap, build up your speed do a clean turn into the finish line and run the straight that leads to the ramp. The image below is the first spot after the ramp.

Hit 175mph in a class B car in Downtown
Choose Event 6 in Midas Touch and pick the M3 E92 (Drift),

Once you enter the tunnel, drift into the middle lane after the tunnel, come out of the turn with at least 100+ mph, there should be a wide turn up ahead, cleanly turn into it without hitting any walls and then its make it or break it on this straightaway. Re-frame from hitting any walls or moving around too much on this straight , moving around will reduce the speed your mph increase Hit 200mph in a class A car in Shutuko.

Hit 150mph in a class D car in Amboy

  • Choose Event 5 in Proving Grounds and pick the Rat Rod. Near the end of the lap you'll come across a run down airport and a long straightaway to its left. Build up speed before this and then go for it on that straightaway.

Hit 160mph in a class C car in Docks

At the end of the lap is your second spot. Build up your speed do a clean turn into the finish line and run the straight that leads to the ramp. The image below is the first spot after the ramp.

Hit 175mph in a class B car in Downtown

  • Choose Event 6 in Midas Touch and pick the Volkswagen W12. Once you enter the tunnel, drift into the middle lane after the tunnel, come out of the turn with at least 110+ mph speed. There should be a wide turn up ahead, cleanly turn into it without hitting any walls and then its make it or break it on this straightaway. Refrain from hitting any walls or moving around too much on this straight, moving around will reduce the speed.

A good tip if your having trouble with this still is to use a Shield power-up when going into the turn going out of the tunnel, it'll bump you off the wall to keep a bit more of your speed then a regular crash without the Shield would. Also the mod Titanium Shield gives the Shield power-up stronger so it doesn't hurt to add that in as well.

Start by coming out of the tunnel into the far right lane.

CLICK FOR EXAMPLE

After that turn, have a Shield ready to put up for the next turn. You want to take it wide so you keep your speed around 110-115 mph.

Once you have done a clean turn, you will go up hill and hit a minor bump that will send you up in the air. You want to be going 124-127mph on this jump. If you aren't, there is no chance of making it. After that just keep accelerating straight into the wall at the end. Do not turn! You should hit the wall going exactly 175 if done correctly, this may take multiple attempts as this is the hardest one to complete.

Hit 200mph in a class A car in Shutuko.

  • Choose Event 1 in Double Trouble and pick any non drift car. This is by far the easiest one, just don't hit any walls and you'll hit 200 mph during one of your laps. This race has a highway portion that goes on for a long time and you if you stay in control and don't hit any other cars or walls, you will hit 200 mph at the end.
