I order to do this, you must be connected to XBOX LIVE. It does NOT matter if you are playing SP or MP, all of them count
(I confirmed this when I did the 1000 Battles, since I had only played around 400 MP battles while boosting, and got my achievement after playing a lot of SP).
Boosting Method
Find a partner. Set the game to 2 minutes, normal and turn pressure blocks off.
Then Idle. It takes about 2.5 minutes a round. It is going to take a long time to get this.
You can also just blow yourself up at the start of every round. Just takes time to restart the game.
