How to unlock the Sore Thumb Award achievement in Boom Boom Rocket - Definitive Guide

This one will take quite a lot of practice

I recommend playing all the songs on hard in the practice mode, until you find one which you are the most comfortable with.

After that go on single player mode and try and complete the song without dying.

When you think you have learnt all of the notes and the timing then go on endurance mode.

Keep on practising because when you get to the 5th lap the song gets insanely fast. So make sure you know the song very well.

Also don't use multiplier, it will waste all of the meter you have built up

None of the songs are easy but i found Hall of Mountain Dude to be the easiest.

I managed to get this the other day play Smooth Operetta. I noticed when playing through that as long as you are hitting most notes, you can avoid pressing B (apart from the flurry of 4 during the chorus). This gives your brain one less button to worry about =)

I got this a bit ago and took me quite a lot of retries. I don't know how many times I died during the fourth, or even the fifth lap before I finally did it, think I got it on Smooth Operetta.

Do not do this on x1 bc so much input delay + dead inputs its unreal

My best advice is to have 1 or 2 or even 3 other people that takes a button each and they just try to time that. I did this one with my mother and her husband and I only had to time two of the buttons.

Smooth Operetta was easiest for myself, took a few hours of trial and error to get it though.
I basically ignored hitting B, except for the part where you have to hit four B's in a row. My left thumb was always on the D-pad as my Y-button, and my right thumb was only responsible for hitting A/X.
Using wired controller made it much easier. I shelved this game for a year because I thought it was impossible, but once I tried a wired controller, I realized it wasn't too bad.

I went back and forth between Smooth Operetta and Hall of the Mountain Dude, practicing periodically over a few days and gradually getting better at each of them. I eventually popped the achievement on Smooth Operetta, which is much, much slower but more technically complex.

For Smooth Operetta, I used my left thumb to hit B on the D-pad and handled all the other inputs (A, X, Y) with my right hand on the colour buttons. It only worked for me because I strategically skipped specific notes in two situations:

(1) For all situations where I had to hit a lot of notes quickly (e.g., when you have to repeatedly hit Y, B, Y, and then X in rapid succession), I skipped every other note and focused on making sure I hit the whole note so I would stay on beat.

(2) For all situations where you have to quickly shift your finger to hit very close notes, I picked only notes that made it easier for me to shift my finger and ignored other ones (e.g., when the opera singer hits the highest point in the song, you have to hit Y > X > A > X > Y > B in quick succession, I only hit Y and then X).

As a general rule if you skip notes, it is much better not to skip multiple notes because it seems to impact your meter to a much greater degree.

First song - Smooth Operetta
When there is a section of the song that is tripping you up on the 4th or 5th lap, it is much better to skip notes than it is to miss the notes.

I found myself continually failing around the same spot on lap 5 and then as soon as I sat there and did nothing, I still had some health left after that section and made it to lap 6.

This song requires less mental effort memorizing, but faster reflexes than some of the other recommended songs. I could never see myself doing any other song tbh.

Successfully complete 5 laps in an endurance game on Hard - 30G

If you have the DLC I suggest you attempt this on Sting of the Bumblebee, you can miss many beats and still keep the multiplier. There are stretches of Blue, Blue, Yellow, Yellow and you can totally ignore the Red & Green during these parts and still maintain the multiplier bar. Then it leads into Yellow, Green, Red and you can ignore the Blue and then it alternates to Green, Yellow, Red.

Once you get this pattern down you can easily make it to Lap 5 consistently. Then it is just a matter of not missing any beats because that is where you will lose the multiplier. If you try to hit all the beats you will surely fail, it's all about picking which beats are the easiest to land and go from there. I did this in about 1 & 1/2 hours and you need to get to ~ 9:30 to reach Lap 6.

I positive voted this, instead of the others, because this is the one that got me the achievement. Me and a friend shared the controller, where I used UP and LEFT on the D-Pad, where he did B & A on the letter buttons. We managed to do this song on our second attempt. It was much easier doing it with a friend.

Thanks a lot for the solution and advice for doing Sting of the Bumblebee.

Thanks for leaving that comment, TSG Dwaggie. I was able to get the achievement by having my wife help me and man two of the buttons. It still took some practice, but it was much easier than I expected.

You're going to have to practice a fair amount to get this one. Hall of the Mountain Dude trains you fairly well for the memorization and reflexes you'll need to get 5 laps on Hard. Note that 5 laps have to be COMPLETED. This means that you will actually have to reach the sixth lap. Also, if you have any of the DLC, those songs will work for the achievement.

Smooth Operetta, or Sting of the Bumblebee if you have the DLC, are by far the easiest songs to get 5 laps on.

I think the best song to do this is the 1st one. Smooth Operetta. When you're in the Endurance game the beat will increase per lap thus increasing the difficulty, and the 5th Lap goes so insanely fast that I had to repeat it 5 times, but lets get to the point: Dont use the multiplier or you will find yourself "Game over" fairly quickly after you use it. Just keep it when It's full, so that you have alot of room for error. If you are nearly game over, try to focus on the easy Note's that are coming in. So you can atleast fill the bar a little. Try to remember the pattern of the note's, so you know what to hit when you get to a certain section... After that, it should't be that much of a trouble.

I definately recommend you attempt this achievement on Hall of the Mountain Dude as the song itself does not contain any tricky bits at all.

The middle bit, (Or corus) is easy to memorize but it does get very fast on the fifth lap.

When I got it I struggled on the last bit of the 5th lap and only attempted to hit the green and red buttons.

Odviously, like all of the Boom Boom Rocket achievements you should use the colour butttons instead of the d-pad, which we all know is terrible on the xbox.

Good luck on this one, you are definately going to need it.

I used a guitar hero guitar for mine and it took a little while to get used to but I basically memorized the pattern for the most part.

Never use your boost and always concentrate on keeping a streak. You are better off not strumming/hitting and letting notes go by than missing!

Here is a video of me completing the achievement, hope it helps.

The song I chose was Sting of the Bumblebee, from DLC

This was an extremely challenging achievement some really useful tips for getting it i found to be:

get used to rolling your thumb over the buttons because in lap 4-5 they are going way to fast to be able to push them.

use the D pad for one button. i was playing on smooth operetta and decided to use the X or left on the D pad. this means on alot of the combos you only have to press 2 buttons with your right hand.

Most importantly don't press and miss, so on some bits concentrate on only hitting 2 out of 4 or 3 out of 4

It seems that I'm a rare bird but I just got mine with Sugar High (which I think is part of the DLC) using a regular controller. I think I had a natural affinity for the song and unlike a bunch of the other songs (imo) I think most of it is extremely easy and the buttons make "a lot of sense" with the melody. The only hard part of the song just takes a couple of times to practice as it's the same pattern 3x times over at the same part. It eventually got to the point during that part that instead of looking at the screen I would just close my eyes and focus on my fingers doing the pattern.

After getting the pattern, I played the song on Endurance on Hard maybe once in the morning and once in the evening once per day while focusing on other games and maybe after a week I got it! Hope this helps someone!

Possibly one of the hardest achievements. Smooth Operetta (surprisingly) is the favourite here. It has a slow tempo, so it won't be as hard. Patience is another factor here. Remain focused and, if you are really struggling, play through the song normally and learn the notes. Never use the multiplier, otherwise it will distract you.
