How to unlock the Tribute To A Vault Hunter achievement in Borderlands 2 - Definitive Guide











Michael Mamaril will give you ether a Blue/Purple/Legendary weapon he is located at random points around sanctuary.
His spawn locations can be found here: http://imgur.com/rFVQowp
It is best not to try to farm for Michael as you will most likely see him whilst roaming Sanctuary but if you do insist on farming him (from what I have read online) He has a 10% chance of spawning before Sanctuary is in the air and a 8% chance whilst in the air. When you do find him simply talk to him he will say something then hand you a weapon, pick up the weapon then BOOM achievement

And for those who do not know Michael Mamaril was a Borderlands fan who unfortunately died at the age of 22 in October 2011 his friend Carlos sent Gearbox an email to ask that Claptrap (His favourite character) read a eulogy. Gearbox also promised that Michael would be in Borderlands 2 as a tribute

I am seriously convinced he is not in the game cause i've saved and quit, traveled to and from sanctuary about a hundred times and nothing. Sucks even thought the story is sad.

im positive he hates me from the afterlife he never spawns in my game. but i do think its nice of gearbox and 2k to put a memento of michael in the game.

I found him after an hour of farming his spawn locations. On normal, before Sanctuary is in the air.

I think exact locations will help others more! For me, he appeared next to the This Just In stand while Sanctuary was still on ground level

June 20th 2015, I found him on Normal difficulty at Kincaids Gun Store after about an hour of saving and quitting. Just keep trying, he'll show up eventually. RIP Mike.

I found him in Moxxi's bar. Whilst Sanctuary was in the air, all I did was save and quit and kept loading into the area and searching for him. Took me about 5 loads to find him.

sooo. i already had this on the X360...

i was playing imported characters on the XB1 and i tried with several characters and i tried on several difficulty modes... i would never find him. i spend probably 2h. running around, switching chars and diff. and nothing.

then it hit me: this imported chars are really old... what if i already did find him on all of them back in the day?

so i made a fresh character, rushed story to get to sanctuary and as soon as i was there and opened the door to the vault hunter HQ, there he was. first try!

so... maybe the best would be making a new char and rushing to sanctuary and open all doors there and THEN farm him with save/quit/rejoin if required.

Back when the game first released, his spawn rate must've been glitched. He would ALWAYS seem to spawn, as long as you checked all his locations. Easy way to farm for blues, back in the day.

I finally found him he was in marcus shop after sanctuary went to the air i cant say this will work for other gamers i believe it may be a random thing which is bull to me he should spawn and be in the game like with moxxi,zed,marcus etc. As in all the time

I found him after I started UVHM and ran through to Sanctuary for the first time. He wasn't there the first time but when I saved and quit he was standing up the stairs from Claptrap on my reload.

I had been trying unsuccessfully with my VHM save. I didn't bring it over as a VHM save but I rushed through the entire story in VHM after I brought my save over and then I was trying after I had beaten the game in VHM. Just some FYI.

30 loads between second play through on the ground and normal mode in the air. Still no spawn. Maybe 50th try save and quit will be the charm. 10% yeah right

Tried farming this for a while, gave up. Of course I found him soon after on a routine Sanctuary stroll.

Between the slot machines and the bar counter inside Moxxi’s. Main game completed, level 39.

The 10% chance to spawn is complete BS. Maybe there is something wrong with my save file. Every time I’ve ever been to sanctuary on any of my three characters I have checked his spawn locations. After completing normal and true mode on my main and then overpower mode, and still not seeing him, I’ve resorted to checking his spawn locations 5+ times a day, depending on my patience that day, for several weeks, I’ve now checked his spawn locations at least a couple hundred times and have never once seen him

Just found MM inside the building where Tannis is. I have completed the main story on normal and am level 41 currently. MM has a 10% chance of spawning after Sanctuary is off the ground and I've read that you must be level 30 in order for him to show up. Otherwise, start a new file and you'll have a much better chance of finding him.

Watch a video of his locations if you must. He DOES show up eventually but there are many places he can show up at. Hope this helps.

Found him in Marcus Munitions. Spawned for me right in front of Marcus and it took me about 3-5 times to save and quit and reload into Sanctuary. Honestly they should've just made him a permanent character in Sanctuary, instead of the whole 8-10 percent thing.

Took about 10 tries, but went back after several years off the game and he spawned in Moxxis bar... Save and quit, reload will eventually work...

This one sucked. I attempted to find him at least 100 times after Sanctuary was in air. Then in true vault hunter mode I made my way back to Sanctuary (Before Sanctuary was flying) and I had to try about 15-20 more times and he eventually popped up in the area between Scooter's and Moxxi's

Can confirm you do not need to be any specific level to find this NPC. The video another user posted showed a level 7 finding him at all locations. I found him in Moxxi's bar at level 9. Took about 10-15 quit/restarts to get him.

I completed everything but this, so had to save and quit farm him with a level 25 character, normal mode, after Sanctuary was in the air. It took 8 circuits of Sanctuary for him to appear to the left of the news kiosk in the town centre.

Personnely I didn't force it by reloading, everytime I went sanctuary I ran round it if he wasn't there just checked again next time I had to turn a mission in. Found him facing Marcus in the store area, this was while sanctuary was floating.

I have tried this dozens upon dozens of times with no success. First I tried with my old import character that had completed the story, with more than a dozen failed attempts. Then I tried an import character with Sanctuary still on the ground. Dozens of failed attempts. Now I'm working on a brand new character and same damn thing. This is all in addition to several checks alongside normal gameplay for yet another new character that has now completed the game without a sighting. What the fuck. I saw him dozens of times on 360...

Michael Mamaril is an NPC who spends his days roaming Sanctuary giving out free gear and guns to vault hunters! Once you reach Sanctuary, he will be in one of ten random spots so you may have to play hide and seek. He may not give you something every time you approach him, but when he does, it is usually fairly decent stuff. Also note that if you are in a party, only ONE person will receive something from him at a time, not the whole group so you may have to dashboard, save, repeat if you are in a party.
Below is a description of the areas he can spawn at

Moxxi's
In the back room to the right, next to the jukebox.
Next to the slot machines.

Alleyway
From the Sanctuary entrance, head up the right staircase and immediately turn right.

Scooter's Garage
Bottom level on the right side, under the stairs.

Marcus Gunshop
Bottom of the stairs.

Hostel
On the corner, by the front door of the black market.
(opposite Moxxi's side entrance)

Dr. Zed's
Dead center of the room.

Crimson Raiders HQ
Upon entering, directly in front of you, between the stairs and Tannis's workshop.

Town Center
Opposite Paradise Station, next to the newspaper stand.

ClapTrap's Hideout
Top of the staircase, on the left.

Sheer fluke for me this time round. On my second visit to Sanctuary he was hanging around in the alleyway heading up to Moxxi's. Took me nearly the whole game to find him on the PS3.

I would recommend to get this before Sanctuary lifts off.
I seem to remember reading this somewhere a long time ago.
First playthrough, I visited Sanctuary so many times looking for him, without success.
Second playthrough, on true vault hunter mode, he popped up second visit, in Scooters place.

I've been playing this game on the PS4. On the first time through the game, before they updated it, chances of finding him were at 100%, so I easily found him hanging out at the Crimson Raiders headquarters, between the steps and Tannis's workshop. If you have this game by this point, the game has been patched to the latest update, so there's a 10% percent of finding him. My advice is to start the game, check out all the spots in Sanctuary. if he is not there, exit the game, reload, rinse, wash, and repeat until he found. It could take a whole day or a month, but he shouldn't be hard to spot. Once he gives you a weapon and you take it from him, it should unlock.

Michael Mamaril is a NPC that appears randomly across Sanctuary, I attach an image with the ubications where he will appear, you only need to found him and talk to him, he will gift you a weapon and the chievo will pop up.

Also he only has a 10% chance of spawning. FINALLY found him for the first time. I hate achievements like this...
Thanks for linking to that map though! It shows exactly the 10 spots where can can spawn (the one in the Headquarters is at the bottom of the stairs, visible as soon as you open the door).
I finally found him standing by the bar near the slot machines, facing Moxxi.

I advise you to find him and take weapons more often at the initial levels.
There is also a possibility of the rarity of the things he gives: 95% Blue, 4.5% Purple, 0.5% Orange

If you can’t find it, then you should roll back the game to version v1.00. In this version it spawns 100%, then it was covered with a patch. Having rolled back the game, I was able to find it the first time, otherwise it had not appeared for me before.

If you patched the game when you first started it, like me, or installed add-ons, but also want to get this prize, along with a good weapon, delete and reinstall the game!

An important nuance: after completing the story mission "A Train to Catch" - this character disappears (until the next playthrough)!

1. It’s better to look for him before the mission A Train To Catch, after which the probability of his appearance decreases.
2. Take off all weapons and equipment; the better the gear you wear, the less likely it is to appear, it’s been verified.

If you roll back to version 1.0 on Vita, then the NPC will not appear with a 100% guarantee - for this you need version 1.0 for Xbox or PS3.

By the time I found it, I almost threw Vita out the window, he was standing near the piano in the moxie bar, just leave the city location and come back for the respawn to be updated.

Got it about 20 times with the latest patch and all the DLC. There was nothing purple or blue in the inventory and equipment. exited, saved and loaded again

I received it without a version rollback or location reboot, with legendary equipment.
I advise you to return to the Sanctuary more often during the story and additional missions and run around its respawn places.

If you didn’t find Michael while playing as the main character, no problem. When you download a new character and have your first visit to the Sanctuary, go through his spawn locations, I found it the first time at Scooter.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! If you want to get this trophy, delete the game (if you downloaded it from PS+), download it again, it will be version 1.00 and you will IMMEDIATELY meet it in one of the places indicated in the Power Pyx hint

I noticed this topic. It seems that if you are equipped with rare purple (violet) or orange things, then the chance of arrival is sharply reduced or reduced to zero, I don’t know. Because while I had purple things in my hands, it did not appear, it was rebooted many times. But I decided to try to put everything completely normal (white). Appeared the second time, taking into account the fact that I had already completed several tasks in the plot and completed additional tasks. The patch was the latest. To get this achievement, you need to take a weapon from Michael Mamaril , he is located in the Sanctuary location, but not in a specific place, that is, he can walk almost anywhere. The location is small, so finding it will not be difficult; in most cases, it catches your eye completely by accident. In order to take a weapon from him, you need to press and after a short dialogue he himself will hand you a weapon, which you must also take by pressing a button . Immediately after this, the achievement will unlock.

He appears exclusively during the day.
In the second half of the game, the likelihood of meeting him is significantly reduced.
