How to unlock the Heir To An Empty Castle achievement in Borderlands 3 - Definitive Guide

Not related to this achievement, but an important point about something around the same time as this achievement...

The story mission before this is called Going Rogue. Once you've completed this, you can complete a mission called Raiders of the Lost Rock. Do this mission.

DO NOT SELL THE GRENADE YOU GET FROM THE MISSION. You can't get it later.

The grenade is called the Porcelain Pipe Bomb, and a direct hit from it will pretty much eat through anything. It works really well on the boss at the end of Cold As The Grave.

Get the grenade. Melt enemies. Enjoy.

Holy cow. You're right, insta-melt the boss at the end. Guns barely make a dent, that grenade makes it easy.

Be aware that this will be nerfed as of 3pm PDT today (9/26/19) via a patch. I would advise playing offline if you want to use this glitch (I would call it an exploit, but Gearbox said this was never meant to cause more than one explosion).

Story Related, Can't Be Missed

This trophy will pop after completing the mission "Cold as the Grave" by talking to Lillith on Sanctuary III, after retrieving the Eridian Synchronizer from the Vault of the Graveward on Eden-6.

Boss details:

GenIVIV - Fought during the mission "The Family Jewel":

GenIVIV has the following attacks:

Bouncing Mines
Forcefields
Robot spawns
Energy Blaster

GenIVIV can be a pain to kill, because she spends most of time zipping around the Bridge, spamming Bouncing Mines, generating forcefields and summoning robot minions to defend her but she will stop periodically to recharge so use that opportunity to lay into her with your best Shock and Corrosive weapons to destroy her shields and armour respectively. The Bouncing Mines can be destroyed but you need a Shotgun or something with a large blast radius, in order to actually hit them. Whilst GenIVIV's head is her weak spot, it can be hard to hit so just go with body shots. Once she has been destroyed, grab the Vault Key piece then return to Sanctuary III and give it to Tannis.

Aurelia - Fought during the mission "Cold as the Grave":

Aurelia has the following attacks:

Ice Walls
Ice Pillar
Ice Cocoon
Bandit Spawns
Tornados
Blizzards
Icicle Spears

Aurelia is one of the toughest bosses in the game if you face her unprepared but if you have the right gear, she's a cakewalk. You will need a decent shock weapon to take out her shields and strong Fire weapons to finish her off. The 2 main attacks you have to watch out for are the Tornados and her Ice Cocoon, because the Tornados will bounce you around like a tennis ball and the Ice Cocoon will give Aurelia her shields back if she stays in there too long so doge the Tornados and destroy the Ice Cocoon whenever it appears. The Bandits aren't much of a threat and Aurelia's other abilities are more annoying than dangerous. Once her shields are gone, it won't take many more shots to kill Aurelia so keep the pressure on and she will eventually crumble.

Graveward - Fought during the mission "Cold as the Grave":

Note: The 1.10 and 1.11 patches have slightly increased the damage his Eye Laser does to you.

The Graveward has the following attacks:

Inferno Laser (Eyes or Chest)
Radiation Balls
Jabber Spawns
Grog Spawns
Platform Tilt - More on this in a bit.
Acid Spitballs
Corrosive Breath
Rocket Punch
Radioactive Mist
Fire Pits
Rock Falls (these happen during his Rocket Punch attacks)

A section of the platform will change colour to represent which attack is coming and which direction it will come from i.e. Yellow = Radiation, Green = Corrosive and Red = Fire.

The Graveward is the second of 4 Vault monsters but is a 2-part fight, because first you must take out his 2 guardians. Grave & Ward are a joke and will die in just a few shots from a decent shock weapon so wipe them out and wait for the main event to begin!

After the Graveward appears and rips all the greenery out of the ground and walls, immediately head for the hollow on the left and stay there until after the ground has stopped moving. This Platform Tilt attack is by far the most dangerous move the Graveward has so watch for the signs he's about to do it, then head straight for one of the hollows at either edge of the platform and stay there until it's safe. Failing to seek cover during a Platform Tilt, will see you slide off the platform and fall to your death. The Graveward is immune or heavily resistant to all elements, thus you will need non-elemental weapons for this fight. There are 4 main weak spots you need to look out for:

1: His top eye (only fully accessible after he collapses)
2: The Yellow Orb on his left arm (his Left, your Right)
3: The Yellow Orb on his right arm (his Right, your Left)
4: The big glowing spot in the centre of his chest.

After tilting the platform you're on, the Graveward will spit some Acid balls at you so stay in your hollow until they've passed by. Once the Spitballs have disappeared, the Graveward will smash his left arm onto the platform and release some Radiation Balls so keep your distance and unload your Sniper Rifle (or any other weapon with High Critical Hit damage) into the Yellow Orb on the end of his arm until he recoils in pain and withdraws it. The next attack will be either one of his Inferno Lasers, a Grog/Jabber Spawn or a Rocket Punch which might cover most of the platform in Radioactive Mist. The Laser and Rocket Punch are easy enough to dodge by either ducking or outrunning them respectively but the Radioactive Mist will do a fair bit of damage if you get caught in it so be on the lookout for some Health Vials. Also note that the Rocket Punch attacks, will often light the hollows on fire so don't enter one until the fire has gone out. The Grogs and Jabbers are easy enough to kill if you get some critical hits in but can be a pain if any badasses spawn as well. Inbetween his attacks, try to get some hits in on the big glowing spot in the center of the Graveward's chest and whittle his health down.

Once you've knocked off 1/3 of his health, the Graveward will collapse and allow you to empty some bullets into his Eye but be prepared to run for cover when he gets up and dives under the platform in preparation to tilt it. The next 2 phases are very much a rinse and repeat of Phase 1 so keep dodging his attacks, whilst attacking his weakspots whenever the opportunity presents itself. After finishing him off, talk to Tannis then enter the Vault and collect the Eridian Synchronizer.
