How to unlock the Stay Golden achievement in Borderlands 3 - Definitive Guide

While in game:

Press start
Social
Shift

If you’re logged into a shift account you’ll be able to enter a shift code.
This is the Code that I used to get one gold key:
ZFKJ3-TT6FF-KTFKT-T3JJT-JWX36

Once entered, hit ‘submit’
Press RB to go to ‘Mail’ and you should have your gold key ready to redeem.

The gold chest itself that you need to open can only be found once you’ve reached Sanctuary which is your main base of operations that’s unlocked shorty after progressing through story missions.

The gold chest will become marked on the map once you’ve gone around sanctuary for the first time. It will most likely appear after talking to Tannis or marcus. (They will be marked on the map for the mission)

If you’ve redeemed your key like above you’ll be able to walk right up to the chest and open it shorty followed with a lovely sound of an achievement popping toast

If you don’t have a shift account you’ll need to go to
https://shift.gearboxsoftware.com and create one there, then link it with your Xbox account.

It took about an hour to get mine in the mail. If you dont see it right away dont panic, it will be there eventually. I'm guessing the amount of people redeeming might have slowed the process a bit

I went online and I guess I can an account already, and when I added the code in the solution in the rewards area, I was told I got a key and that i'd find it near the chest. so it seems these codes are usable by many and not unique.

So when you typed it in, you didn’t get a key at all :( ? I was hoping these codes didn’t expire! Did you redeem that in-game or on the wedbite?

All of these codes are active and get be redeemed, they are not unique to 1 person, but once you redeem it you can't again.

FYI you can now get LEGENDARY gear from the chest, so if you just doing it for the achievement, I'd just use 1, then wait till a higher level to get some good gear imo :)

I opened like 6 chests and the achievement didn't pop, same goes to reach lvl 10 achievement, which is wield since I'm already lvl 50.

Check your mailbox by pressing Start then Social and tabbing over to the mailbox. Not sure why I had a redeemable golden key in there, but none of the shift codes I could find were working.

Just found out you need xbox live gold to redeem shift keys in game, but you can get around it by redeeming codes on the website. You'll get the rewards the next time you log in to the game.

Just a word of warning - I actually got screwed out of this achievement. I was playing co op with a friend and we both had like 6 keys each. He used his and got the achievement and then I used mine and did not get the achievement. I have tried everything I can think of: used several more keys in my own solo game, rebooted console multiple times, went to achievement lists on Xbox.com and in the app... nothing worked. It does not appear to be a widespread issue as I seem to be the only “lucky” one I can find online complaining about it but just posting here as a quick warning. God, I really hate when this happens and we have like no recourse...

Golden Keys are used in the Sanctuary to unlock a specific chest for powerful guns and items in Borderlands 3. I'll post all Golden Key codes I find here. Golden keys can be entered in the console or online on these websites:

Codes can be only redeemed once per account but can be redeemed by multiple accounts.

Some codes do expire after a certain time period as well.

To get golden keys, you need to have your shift account linked to your Borderlands 3 account. This should happen automatically, but in case it does not, shift.gearboxsoftware.com is where you can sign into your account and link it to your Xbox.

Once your shift account is linked, they are randomly given out by Gearbox, Gearbox Employees and some other official accounts. To track all of them, I follow https://twitter.com/dgshiftcodes as all codes that are posted on twitter, facebook and Instagram get reposted on there within a few hours max.

Once you have your golden key, the chest is straight out from the fast travel on Sanctuary and to the right. It's marked by a giant chest on your mini-map. Spend your key and, the achievement is yours.

Closest thing was if you pre-ordered and play within 14 days of release, you get 5 golden keys @arador. Other than that, I didn't have any keys when I started the game.

well I preordered and bought the 100dollar premium ultimate edition, logged onto the shift account, followed on twitter and i have recieved shit so far. Much easier 10 years ago when they just gave them as loyalty

In this video guide I will show you how to use a golden key. Now first thing you need to do is make a shift account. From the pause menu go to social and hit RB twice to get to the setup. Make one with your e-mail and password. From there go to https://twitter.com/dgshiftcodes to check out codes they might post. Here are also a few more that will work for you:

Once you enter the code go to your mail by hitting RB. You will press the A button to get the key from you mail. Now you need to fast travel to Sanctuary, the one on the ship. You will get to the ship from progressing some missions. The golden chest will be by your room out in the hallway. Go up to it and use a key and the achievement will pop. I would save some keys for later. That way you will have higher gear.

This can be attained after leaving the planet Pandora and boarding the ship Sanctuary. Press the Start button and scroll down to the Social tab. From here press RB to go to the third section (the Shift slot) and create a Shift account if you do not already have one. Once logged in you will be able to enter a Shift Code. These can be only redeemed once per user:

Notes:

  • Whilst you have to be online to redeem the codes for Golden Keys and to receive them in your in-game Mail, you don't have to be online to actually use the key with the Golden Chest. You must have the latest patch and Hot Fix installed, before this is possible.
  • You can't access the Golden Chest, until after you have completed the mission "Sanctuary".
  • Unfortunately, there are some glitches associated with the Golden Chest that make it annoying to use.
  1. Using the save scum exploit for infinite keys, will royally mess up your Guardian Ranks if done once you have gained access to the Guardian Rank system.
     
  2. Redeeming a code via one of the official websites whilst you're in-game, will cause a delay in the key(s) arriving in your mail box so make sure you're not in-game if you go down that route.

The Golden Chest is located on Sanctuary III and denoted on the map by an icon of a Golden Treasure Chest but to get a Golden Key so you can open it, you must first create and link a SHiFT Account to your PSN ID (LINK) then redeem a code either in-game (:options: => Social => SHiFT) or via the following sites:

SHiFT: LINK

To access your key(s) after redeeming a code, go: :options: => Social => Mail then press :cross: to add it to your collection. See here for a list of all the valid codes: LINK. The Golden Key Codes in BL3 have painfully short time limits and more often than not, will have expired before you get to them. Also note the keys themselves are non-tradable items so all you can do is play the waiting game until a code appears that you can actually redeem. Note: If you're on the PS5 and having issues finding a working code, use this one: 5HWT3-ZCH6Z-KXWRZ-6JTBT-TH5KC (credit to Paco-001 for this).

Once you have a Golden Key, walk up to the Golden Chest then press :cross: on it when the prompt appears.

We are looking on the Internet (Twitter SHiFT Codes mainly) for the SHIFT key. Enter it in the communication item -> "S" icon.
A golden key will be sent to your mail. Switch to the "mail" tab and take the key. The key opens a chest in Sanctuary.

As of 04/08/2021, there are problems with obtaining the trophy on PS5 if some keys were already used in the game but on PS4. In the game and on the website it says that "the key has already been used." And keys from PS4 are not transferred to the PS5 account.

You can get this trophy without an active subscription, instead of entering the key in the game, you can enter it on the website shift.gearboxsoftware.com by linking your PSN account, then all you have to do is go to the Communication - letters tab and accept the golden keys.
