I had an issue with this not popping for me and had to restart the game.

You will unlock this after defeating the first boss in the game (Shiv) and releasing Claptrap (once freed stand next to him and hold X to revive him).

It should take about 20 minutes to get to this point.

Story Related but can be MISSED if you use a pre-levelled character

"Children of the Vault" is the opening mission so complete that, then the trophy will pop.

Note: All Story related missions are marked in your log, by a Vault symbol.

Shiv:

Shiv has the following attacks:

Buzzaxe
Buzzaxe Spin

Shiv is the first and easiest boss in the game and you will meet him near the end of the mission, after Claptrap insults him over the radio. The only thing you have to watch out for are Shiv's melee attacks so stay of his range and go for headshots but you can also shoot the nearby transformer to electrify the puddle of water that's in front of it so Shiv takes Shock damage when he walks through it.
