How to unlock the Ding! Champion achievement in Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition - Definitive Guide

The method below will help getting you to the first 40 levels from the start of the game to speed through the majority of the game to get to the second playthrough since most enemies are less than 40. Note that are level 35, it takes 7-10 times to level up once and at that point, its better to just play the game. At least with this, you can get a head start.

I levelled from 39 to 41 after killing crawmerax so I didn't get that level 40 achievement since I never was level 40. Also something to be careful with.

Worked for me, so doesn't have to be done in offline.

As of 22OCT22, it doesn't seem to work anymore or do you need the fix er upper quest for it to work as I have handed mine in before seeing this?

December 2022, still works for me. I do still have the fixer upper quest active though. So I think you have to follow that step.

Got level 50 on two different profiles. No achievement for either

*Late update* after boosting with my second account to get to level 50, I just powered leveled my main account in Eridian Promontory and unlocked the achievement after my second level 50 character on my main account

I spent some time trying to push my imported character up from 68 to 69 in the hope it would ding the level 50 ( kinda like borderlands 2, do the same thing one more time to unlock it.) That didn't work. I used the above trick to power level up to 40 with a new toon then mowed through the story, where I encountered 2 problems, number 1, the over levelled new character xp gains were paltry from all story and side missions, since there level was massively in excess of the mission requirements. Having gone through the first play through and run the back end of Knoxx and killed a few bosses I'm now sitting low on the lvl 45 bar.
Looking at having to go through at least part of the second play through before I get to 50.
Secondly, my weapon proficiency is almost 0. I have level 1 with a slither of a bar on level 2 for SMG and maybe 0.75 a bar on pistols.
This would normally unlock during natural play pretty early on. I can only assume its caused by the same relatively low xp returns from using an over levelled toon on the first play through.
The level 50 will come somewhere in playthrough 2. The proficiency problem should fix when the levels match the requirements better but that could be some time away. As a possible quicker fix some 4 player, playthrough 2 boss farming may work well. I haven't tried yet.
Be aware.

A fast way to earn this quickly is to search on the matchmaking menu for players of Level 69 and above. Virtually every player at this level is farming Crawmerax the Invincible for his loot drops and massive XP awards. Even in the 40s, I was levelling up twice per kill of Crawmerax courtesy of those other players. I would advise this only if you don't want to take your time and get this naturally while achieving all other content in the add-ons, but this is much faster than even shooting guardians with the shock sniper outside of the Vault.

Unlocked for reaching level 50. You of course level up by earning XP that is given for killing enemies and completing missions. The XP given from killing enemies is dependent on the enemy type, their level and your level relative to theirs. The XP given for completing missions is fixed.

To unlock this achievement will require a full playthrough of the game and then another partial playthrough, though how much of another playthrough depends on what you do to earn XP. I would recommend after completing your initial playthrough to jump straight into a second and avoid the DLCs so that you can keep leveling up. Then when you reach level 50 you can switch back to 'Playthrough 1' and begin the DLCs with a level 50 character to make them easy.

If you have all the trophy DLCs installed, then it is theoretically possible to get all the "Ding!" trophies in one Playthrough. For most people, however, it will take at least 1.5 playthroughs to get to level 50 as you won't earn enough XP on Playthrough 1 if you play legit. The highest level you're likely to reach on Playthrough 1 is approx 38, depending on how much XP grinding you do and if you have a class mod equipped that increases the amount of XP you earn. If you don't Power Level or use any exploits, then this trophy will pop around the time the Mission "Jaynistown: Getting What's Coming To You" becomes available on Playthrough 2, providing you have completed all the side-quests up to this point. Getting to level 40 isn't hard, it's getting to 50 that takes the most time as the XP gap between the two is massive. Getting to level 50 requires a total amount of 3,429,728 XP.

Here are some ways to get level 50 if you want to speed things up/cheat a little bit (though please note that we are unsure about which of these work with the PS4 version of the game and which don't):

  • Go Power Levelling in the Eridian Promontory by having someone with a Max level character invite you to their game and Fast Travelling there (unless they're already at the Promontory that is). Now sit back and let the other person do all the hard work as any XP they earn, you will to - only possible in Splitscreen or LAN mode.

  • Make sure you have the Secret Armoury of General Knoxx DLC installed then get invited to a game where someone is farming Crawmerax. Crawmerax and his minions are worth a lot of XP and you can level up extremely quickly if things go to plan

  • If you want to cheat, then see this video on how to do the Med Kit Exploit (credit to Primalliquid):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K8t0rJpxPc

Note: If you use this exploit then it's best to stick to using the Dr. Ned Health Vending machine in Fyrestone otherwise it might not work properly (credit to tenike1 and levo21 for this info). This exploit works with the latest patch and the global release of the GOTY Edition so no need to delete anything, confirmed working with the JP stackable release (credit to scuzzybum for confirming this).

  • An alternative XP Exploit is this one, which exploits a quirk with the "How much for the planet?" challenge (credit to Andy Lewis): - Doesn't work on the PS4, because of a bug that screws up the money counter.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYAlyh9KTjM

A full explanation for how it works can be found here: LINK (credit to Duke Briggs for this explanation). Here's an alternative way to do this exploit: To pull this off, you need to farm an area until your backpack is full then sell everything you're not using. Do this enough times and eventually (it will take a while) the money counter for "How much for the planet" will glitch and start counting backwards until it hits $9,999,999, when it hits this point you will earn 20,000 XP. Once the counter has reset, you will have sell enough items glitch it again. This exploit is extremely time consuming and should be considered a last resort option. Do note though that this exploit is not as fast nor efficient as the Medkit exploit but will do for the people that don't have the requisite Challenge available.

  • Using Roland's Turret can cause you to lose out on XP if an enemy dies from any continuous damage it deals e.g. corrosive.

  • Here's another exploit, you don't earn much and it's fiddly to do but it's better than nothing if you've screwed up the others (PlanetBorderlands):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjw7x5kbCDM

The guy doesn't mention the XP but it's there.

You really shouldn't need to use any of these exploits since you get loads of XP by just playing the game and even more by finishing all the DLCs.

Can be used both from the beginning of the game and after the first playthrough.
If you want to immediately pump up to 50 (or 61 for DLS), you first need to go to the General Knoxx DLC (they say money is collected there quickly) and there you can collect money, you will need 150-180 thousand, the essence of the boost is simple, there is a challenge for 1200 sales, on one of the first quests we buy first aid kits and sell them right there (not through the buy back menu) and so on until 1199, when we reached 1199 sales in the challenges (Merchant of Death) we dump the save onto a flash drive, just in case there is a fireman, then we go to game, we sell one pharmacy and immediately buy it back, we get 20k experience as credit, but the challenge does not end, go to the menu (make sure the game is saved, the icon on the top left pops up), click continue, go to the machine, do sell>buy and so how much do you need
From level 33 after the first passage to 50 it will take about 2 hours of such downloads back and forth
