How to unlock the That Helped, Right? achievement in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel - Definitive Guide
There are 15 total modes that Claptrap can use in Vault Hunter.EXE
– Funzerker
– Shhhhh… Trap
– Miniontrap
– Blightbot
– Mechromagician
– Meat Unicycle
– Rubber Ducky
– Med Bot (only in local/online coop, if your partner is below 100hp or dead)
– Nonsensical Sacrifice (only in local/online coop, if your partner(s) are dead)
– Torgue Fiesta (Boomtrap Skilltree)
– Pirate Ship Mode (Boomtrap Skilltree)
– Clap-in-the-Box (I Love You Guys! Skilltree)
– Gun Wizard (I Love You Guys! Skilltree)
– One Shot Wonder (Fragmented Fragtrap Skilltree)
– Laser Inferno (Fragmented Fragtrap Skilltree)
Took me about five minutes in Splitscreen to get Med Bot & Nonsensical Sacrifice, i recommend that you reset your skills so that you don’t get the other six Modes from the Skilltree
To reset your Skill Points just use the “New-You” Station in Concordia
For reference, the Modes are
1. Clap-in-a-Box
2. Gun Wizard
3. Torgue Fiesta
4. Pirate Ship Mode
5. One Shot Wonder
6. Laser Inferno
7. Minion Trap
8. Meat Unicycle
9. Funzerker
10. Mechromagician
11. Shhhh... Trap!
12. Blight Bot
13. Rubber Ducky
*14. Med Bot
*15. Nonsensical Sacrifice
* Co-op only
If yoiu're having trouble with Medbot, I got it in split screen co-op. Both characters were alive but below 100 HP. I put no skill points anywhere except the very first node in the tree. I hope this helps.
I can't confirm if recent patches made getting this easier, but that's how I got it. All the others were easy to get, just pay attention to how your skill points are allocated.
Solution for That Helped, Right? In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (Xbox 360)
Basically you have to reach Level 26 to be able to put skill point in each of the skill trees. From left to right:
- Boomtrap
- I Love You Guys!
- Fragmented Fragtrap
The idea is to get faster to that level using another account with a character with high level, better with a True Vault Hunter mode to speed up things. So basically you will do everything on the upper character and let claptrap below just level up.
When you reach the designated level, assign everything on the first skill tree, Boomtrap. Play with the character a while. You will get some random and some specific for the skill tree. When you think is enough or see many ones repeated go to Concordia and use the Re-spec machine to reset the skill points and then put all on the 2nd tree, "I Love You Guys!". Play a little while and then redo the same and choose the final tree, "Fragmented Fragtrap". You will probably get the achievement on the 2nd activation for that 3rd tree.
Have to say that as crazy the character is, most specials with Claptrap are random, so you cannot predict them for sure, however, some of them are most probably like the Medbot that heals the other character at half of the shield / life bar, or Nonsensical Sacrifice, that swaps the dead if the partner is down and about to be killed (second wind status).

Medbot and Nonsensical Sacrifice seem to be the hardest to get. I had no luck with these guides until I looked around so posting my suggestions for both below:
First, reset all skills for claptrap and invest 5 in Manical Laughter and 5 in Through Thick and Thin (for action skill cooldown).
Now, for Medbot go to Serenity's Waste. With your main character (claptrap), run out to the right and kill all the enemies until they stop spawning then run down to the lava lake. Unequip all shields and healing items for both characters Have your other character run over and let them sufficate/get hurt until they have a red triangle next to their health. Do the same for your main character then trigger your action skill. This should get Medbot to activate, try a few times if you don't get it first shot. Another note, I got Rubber Ducky here a bunch of times doing the same thing except my claptrap's health didn't have the red triangle next to it. A heads up to anyone having trouble with that one.
For Nonsensical Sacrifice, you need your main character to have a shield and your secondary to have a gun. Again, unequip all healing items. Go to Tycho's Ribs. Have your main character stay in the fast travel room and the second character run into the next room with the enemies. Once they go down and bring their gun up, do your action skill. I got this after a few tries. Credit to iTz Canada Ehh in a comment on the 360 guide for this one.
All the other ones popped naturally for me through the game, I did reset my skill tree while running through holodome (normal mode level 48) to get the skills that need to be unlocked and got them all in one round. I'd try that if you're having problems getting any of them to unlock.
If you don't get it to unlock after this, don't panic! I had to do my action skill once more to get it to pop.
Hope this helps!

You can get this starting at level 25 on Claptrap. There are 15 total modes that Claptrap can use in Vault Hunter.EXE. The game analyzes your stats and picks a mode when you press LB, but in my opinion, most of them are random.
Claptrap has 9 available from the start, which are:
-Funzerker (Dual wield weapons)
-Shhhhh... Trap (Turn invisible)
-Miniontrap (Throw down turret)
-Blightbot (Send out a flying claptrap with fire/corrosive damage)
-Mechromagician (send out flying Punkbot, which distracts and melees)
-Meat Unicycle (Melee weapon with sawblade)
-Rubber Ducky (reflect bullets and bounce)
-Med Bot (shoot laser at teammates to heal them)
-Nonsensical Sacrifice (revives teammates that are currently down at the cost of your own life)
NOTE: Med Bot and Nonsensical Sacrifice are more likely to show up if you have teammates injured or down. (Downed teammates seem to be a requirement for the latter)
6 abilities can be unlocked by putting points into Claptrap's skill trees. There are two abilities in each tree:
Boomtrap: (Left Tree)
-Torgue Fiesta (Rapidly throws out grenades) Put a point into I Am Rubber, You Are Glue.
-Pirate Ship Mode (Cannons appear in four corners of your screen and fire) Put a point into Livin' Near the Edge.
I Love You Guys!: (Middle Tree)
-Clap-in-the-Box (Claptrap holds a bomb that detonates) Put a point into Kick Him While He's Down.
-Gun Wizard (greatly increases fire rate and reload speed for team) Put a point into You're.. GOING TO LOVE ME!!
Fragmented Fragtrap: (Right Tree)
-One Shot Wonder (gun magazine will empty with one shot) Put a point into Tripleclocked
-Laser Inferno (disco ball will fire lasers at enemies) Put a point into Rainbow Coolant.
While attempting this, you can re-spec your points to switch from skill tree to skill tree. You can do this at the Quick Change station just outside the bar in Concordia.
First, there are two Action Packages that REQUIRE Co-op (Sorry Solo players, like myself), which can be a bit extra frustrating.
Second, understand that due to Claptrap's glitchy programming, this skill may occasionally select an Action Package not relating to the current situation (and multiple Action Packages can share criteria).
So, what you get is ALWAYS basically random, though there are ways to try to help influence it, as it is based on "analyzing the environment" to choose the best ability... which can then just get replaced with any at random. You know, it IS Claptrap.
Fortunately, you can specifically respec after triggering an Action Package unlcocked from the Skill Tree, thus removing it from the list of possibilities for a wasted repeat.
There are 15 possible Action Packages, 6 of which are tied to specific Skills in your Skill Tree. To unlock all of them, you need to be a minimum of Level 25+.
I would recommend keeping track of each Action Package as it happens, as well as temporarily unlearning any tied to a Skill when they trigger.
Also, probably get the two Co-op ones done ASAP, then play solo for the rest to lock those two out of the pool of Action Packages. Make sure you have NO Skills (other than Action Skill, of course) unlocked!
-Some claim that Concordia is the prime spot to get these two done,
Now, on to the specifics:
(Default, available with the Action Skill)
Funzerker
Shhhhh… Trap
Miniontrap
Blightbot
Mechromagician
Meat Unicycle
Rubber Ducky
Med Bot (Co-op REQUIRED) - Can trigger if your partner(s) is below 100hp or dead
Nonsensical Sacrifice (Co-op REQUIRED) - Can trigger if your partner(s) are dead
(Skill Tree unlocks)
Torgue Fiesta (Boomtrap Skilltree Tier 4, min. Lv. 15)
Pirate Ship Mode (Boomtrap Skilltree Tier 6, min. Lv. 25)
Clap-in-the-Box (I Love You Guys! Skilltree Tier 2, min. Lv. 9)
Gun Wizard (I Love You Guys! Skilltree Tier 3, min. Lv. 14)
One Shot Wonder (Fragmented Fragtrap Skilltree Tier 3, min. Lv. 14)
Laser Inferno (Fragmented Fragtrap Skilltree Tier 6, min. Lv. 25)
And here are the 16 variables (When VaultHunter.exe is activated, several are chosen, then an Action Package activates):
Ammo Low
Enemies Present / Melee Enemy / Shot Enemy / Badass Present / Boss Present
Buddies! / Lonely Mode
Used Grenade
Health Full / Health Low / Fight For Your Life
Shield Full / Shield Low / Shield Empty
Subroutine Loaded
Sadly, I don't know what each Package is tied to for triggering it, but there is some work towards that on the talk page for the skill on the wiki: https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/Talk:VaultHunter.EXE
(The sole exception is that the co-op ones will have the Buddies! trigger.)
Further help: Thanks to "SpectatorX" and their post I found (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=67224...), here is a bit of control you can do for Rubber Ducky and (I assume at the moment) Med Bot and Nonsensical Sacrifice.
Step 1: Go to Concordia.
Step 2: Unequip EVERYTHING, Respec, spend a single point to unlock VaultHunter.exe
Step 3: Make sure yourself/ally(ies) are injured/FFYL (self-damage via Grenade at your feet works well)
Step 4: Stand at an edge without rails, facing outwards (to get rid of minions quickly), and activate VaultHunter.exe
(Myself, I FINALLY got Rubber Ducky on my second try this way!)
Good luck!
Vault Hunter.EXE is the Claptraps action skill. You unlock this as with all characters at level 3 and can immediately begin using it. How it works is that when you activate it, the game will evaluate the current battlefield conditions and assign an appropriate temporary battlefield 'care package', although this is mostly a random outcome. You will need to be level 25 with the Claptrap to have enough skill points to unlock the .EXE modes through the skill trees. After getting to level 25 you can unlock and trigger the modes in 1 of the skill trees, then re-spec your character and do the next skill tree, then again for your third and final time.
There are 9 default modes that are available from the beginning, 2 of which require that you are playing in Co-Op and are marked as such below:
- Funzerker - Dual wield weapons
- Shhhhh... Trap - Turn invisible and a minitrap to distract enemies
- Miniontrap - Throw down turret
- Blightbot - Send out a flying claptrap with fire/corrosive damage
- Mechromagician - Send out flying Punkbot, which distracts and melees
- Meat Unicycle - Melee weapon with a buzzsaw
- Rubber Ducky - reflect bullets and bounce
- Med Bot - shoot laser at teammates to heal them (co-op)
- Nonsensical Sacrifice - revives teammates that are currently down at the cost of your own life (co-op)
6 abilities can be unlocked by putting points into Claptrap's skill trees. There are two abilities in each tree:
Boomtrap: (Left Tree)
- Torgue Fiesta - Rapidly throws out grenades; put a point into I Am Rubber, You Are Glue.
- Pirate Ship Mode - Cannons appear in four corners of your screen and fire; put a point into Livin' Near the Edge.
I Love You Guys!: (Middle Tree)
- Clap-in-the-Box - Claptrap holds a bomb that detonates; put a point into Kick Him While He's Down.
- Gun Wizard - greatly increases fire rate and reload speed for team; put a point into You're.. GOING TO LOVE ME!!
Fragmented Fragtrap: (Right Tree)
- One Shot Wonder - gun magazine will empty with one shot; put a point into Tripleclocked
- Laser Inferno - disco ball will fire lasers at enemies; put a point into Rainbow Coolant.
Experience all of these with the Claptrap and the achievement is yours.

To reset skill points, use the Quick Change station in Concordia.
It helped a lot because I couldn’t beat RubberDucky for 5 hours.
-It is necessary to have a guide (online or a second joy to help)
- Full shields for the character and ally/partner
-Low health for the character and ally/partner
I did it in the very first location, first removed the shield from the main character, stood on the lava until the flashing exclamation mark (opposite health), turned on the shield. Everything is ready with the character.
The second player was initially connected as a second joey, so he has lvl 1-5, he previously bought the lowest-grade shield, but did not activate it -> then either his opponents took off his health, or he also stood on the lava until a flashing exclamation mark appeared -> activated the shield. The second character is ready.
Next, the main character, being next to his partner, activated the skill. And that’s it, everything worked out immediately on the first try.
