How to unlock the The Gun In The Stone achievement in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel - Definitive Guide

To get the Excalibastard you must have a badass rank of at least 2500. This is achieved by doing the various challenges in the badass rank section of the cn_back menu. Once you have 2500 travel to Stanton's Liver. There is not a fast travel machine there so you will have to go to Triton Flats first and enter Stanton's Liver. Once in Stanton's Liver walk forward until you see some enemies and a bridge. Take a left before crossing the bridge and you should notice a path that follows the wall. Continue on it until the end to find the gun. If you are having trouble finding anything I added a few pictures to help.

Might be worth adding that it's a once per character weapon , haven't checked to see if you can dashboard out once you get it or if it auto saves when you pick it up.

Just want to confirm that you can dashboard after pulling it out of the stone to get the achievement and avoid actually picking the gun up. Useful if you're trying to stay alive in the Leap Frog contest lol

I have the most important question though : if you play in co-op and the host picks up the weapon, will the achievement unlock for everyone in the party?

One character to level 38, second character to level 19, that was enough for badass 2500.
It only unlocks for host; do this in single-player mode.
Force-Quit the game after the achievement unlocks, that way you get the achievement but not low-level orange gun. Pick it up when you're near max level.

Achievement did not pop initially after removing the gun. Not sure if my console was having issues or LIVE was having issues or what. Recovered my profile and still nothing. Upon returning to the area where the Excalibastard is the achievement unlocked. Just thought I would share on the off chance that it wasn't popping for someone.

For those that have the Handsome Collection/Loyalty Pack (which you get from playing Borderlands 2 on the 360, possibly the Pre Sequel too, but I got the Loyalty Pack in B2 and the Pre Sequel despite only having played B2 on the 360, not the PS) you'll have 5k+ Badass Rank so you can grab Excalibastard as soon as you set foot in Stanton's Liver.

As already mentioned, it's a one a character weapon. So although your Badass Rank is shared by all your characters, and you can get it at any time on future characters, you can only get it once on each character, regardless of playthroughs.

I can also confirm that you can remove it from the stone and pick it up (or not actually pick it up), and if you dashboard out it'll be back in the stone when you reload. This is handy if you just want to grab the achievement, but want to wait until you're a higher level before grabbing the gun as it scales to your character level.

You can find the Excalibastard weapon in the Stanton's Liver area.
As you arrive in the area, head left and jump across rocks to get to it.
Excalibastard is a legendary weapon floating above a stone.

ART THOU BADASS ENOUGH?
In order to pull the weapon from the stone, you must have a minimum Badass rank of 2,500.
If you are attempting The Challenger trophy, then you would likely hit this number somewhere in the mid level 30's.

Borderlands: The Pre-SequelChallengerThe Challenger trophy in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel worth 50 pointsCompleted level 1 of all challenges with a single character.

You can only pull the weapon once per character, which carries over between multiple playthroughs. So if you pull it at level 30 on NVHM, you cannot pull it later in TVHM or UVHM.
The weapon's level will scale with you, but max's out at the current mode's level cap. From what I've read online, the recommendation is to wait until level 50 in TVHM for this weapon.

Here is the Wikia page regarding the weapon

Excalibastard can be found stuck in a stone in the 'Stantons Liver' area. You will need a Badass Rank of 2,500 or over and you will only get the gun once, so it may be best to wait until you are level 50 so that you get the best possible version of it.

As you enter the area from Triton Flats, look on your map and notice at the top of the map there are two small areas not connected to the rest of the map. Excalibastard is at the tip of the most northerly area.

Huge thanks to Predni for the video:
