How to unlock the Braaaaaaaaaaaaains! achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide

You will get this achievement from a special character located in the Hollow's End zone of the map. Specifically you will find him in the town of Hollows End. You will find this town at the far south-west of the map. Follow the road behind the gallows to a building with fyrestone written on top of it.

The quest is broken into five stages in which you must return a total of 435 brains to the quest giver. You can only collect the amount alloted for each stage,so do not bother collecting more brains than needed for each stage. A good tip is to leave all the extra brains on the ground so you can scoop them up when you start the quest or the next stage of it. In order to get brains you must head shot zombies and defilers for them.

Here are the amounts you will need for each stage.
1. Collect 10 brains.
2. Collect 25 brains.
3. Collect 50 brains.
4. Collect 100 brains.
5. Collect 250 brains.

a proper solution. the only difficulty was finding the quest to begin with, though that was more from lack of looking. if you're any good it will take about an hour

Keep in mind everyone, just incase your playing with a friend. All of these achievements seem to be glitched in one way or another. Me and one other person were playing and I got the two "storyline" quest achievements and killing the final bosses second form, he got the brains and killing the bosses first form. Beware since this one is a bit of a time consumer. If it does indeed glitch, just go to dashboard, DO NOT SAVE and restart, it should give you any glitched achievements and allow you to try turning in the brains achievement again.

Exactly why this site is so amazing and why having achievement hunting friends around is a great thing. I won the game yesterday, took less than two hours, got all the achievements but this one. I figured, wrongly, that they were going to give me the Braaaaaains quest after I completed all the others so I could see every quest they had created. Today I was going to finish them up and instead came here first - saved myself a little bit of time and could have saved MUCH more had I picked this up first since I have been picking up brains the entire time. Thank you Impendin Agony and you'll get a thumbs-up from me this morning.

Don't you think 435 brains is a little extreme for 25 points?

If you are playing with a split-screen partner and this and/or the other dlc achievements glitch for you heres a solution to fix it:

When you complete a task that should award you with an achievement and you dont get it BUT your partner DOES get it, simply exit to the dashboard without saving and sign in as the opposite player

for example: you complete BRAAAAAAAAINS! as player one and player two gets the achievement and you don't...go to the dashboard without saving and sign in as player two and turn in again...you should get it...same goes for all the other dlc achivements

here's a tip: use a revolver omn the torsos instead of a shotgun, the percentage of getting a brain goes considerably up because the crosshairs are more centrally located to the zombie's head

@Leo Ascendent - I'm about 99.5% certain they were legitimately thanking Impedin because it's fun to find out for yourself. Good job at jumping down someone's throat for no legitimate reason whatsoever, though. =D

@iTz CLaYnZ - I absolutely agree with you, but it's not too big a deal if you run through the missions in the right order. Sucks for those of us that don't, though, right? =|

@ Kojiiriin - Thanks, now I don't have to say it =P

And, I haven't done this yet.. (I didn't realise I'd have to go looking for an NPC) So, yeah, genuinely thankyou Impendin for not revealing the identity of the NPC. I love Borderlands' slapstick humour, and I bet this little secret's good for a giggle.

Read this to find out where this NPC is. Thanks a million for not saying who it is. The only thing I laughed at more was when the "Dr. Ned (Undead) HOLY F*CKING SHIT!!!" screen popped up before the second fight against him. I freaking love Borderlands!

Don't know who had problems with co-op glitches...at least not with this DLC, I ALWAYS played this game co-op with my gf, and the only achievement that glitched for use was the Loot Midget achievement in secret armory, other than that no problems.

PLEASE add a note for others to start this mission in the beginning! I didn't know that brains picked up before hand didn't count. So I wasted a lot of time collecting thinking it was helping but it didn't due to the fact the mission hadn't officially started. I give this solution a positive vote still but please add note for others to start mission ASAP or to not waste time collecting brains without starting mission.

I found this to be a great set of quests to level up my Eridian Blaster. I've hit level 10 without even collecting the last 250. It's amazing how useless these energy weapons are in the beginning and just how excellent they become once you increase your proficiency a bit.

I recommend using a scoped assault rifle or a shotgun. Work on these quests while completing all of the other ones to maximize efficiency.

I got the final quest (250) completed by killing all of the zombies on the way to Hallows End, then killing a ton of zombies in Hallows End, and then exiting/saving to the main menu, and repeating.

Just some tips:
- Zombies will always drop brains when you headshot kill them. They're infinite, it's a collecting quest in more of a WoW-format, not like the flags in Assasin's Creed or the like.
- You can pick up brains before you start the mission, but there's no point. It won't cause any harm, but they won't count either.
- Brains don't carry over between mission either - so if you get 15 brains for the 'get 10 brains mission' and then hand it in, you'll still need the full 25 for the next quest.
- You need 10 for the first quest, then 25, 50, 100, and finally 250, for a total of 435.
- I would recommend getting the mission as soon as possible, then run between different areas to do the first 4 brain mission (10, 25, 50, 100), then finish the other DLC missions. When doing the DLC missions try to make headshot kills as much as possible but don't worry if you don't get them.
- One more tip - head back to Hallow's End when you're about 20-30 brains from what you need, you'll probably get that many fighting your way from wherever you are to the mission giver.

I used a good shotgun to get most of the brains, it didn't even have good accuracy - just wait for them to get close (good accuracy couldn't hurt though). I focused on killing the Defilers first because they kill you the most (you can try for headshots on them too, but killing them is a priotity).

As a further addition to the solutions above, one problem for some players has been actually finding the quest and the character who gives it.

The best ways I've found of doing so is to accept the "Pumpkinhead" mission from the Jakob's Cove bounty board very early in the game (about 2-3 quests in).

This quest will take you to a "boss" named Pumpkinhead, but it will also take you to within close walking distance of the area where this quest begins.

After killing Pumpkinhead, return to the nearby township area - really just a collection of buildings - and look for the gallows. Behind the gallows is a path which leads around and to a house. The quest begins with the character in this house - the identity of which will become very obvious very quickly.

Getting into this quest early allows you to get shooting and get through some of the early stages of the 5-part quest before you are too far into the story line.

As mentioned above - the 10, 25 and 50 brain sections of the quest can be done very quickly in the areas in the area ... plenty of zombies there, and as you progress up to meet Dr Ned for the first time.

Once you get the 100-brain quest done, scuttle back to the house and turn in as you have for the three previous parts, and just get going with the story - you'll shoot way more than 250 zombies throughout, allowing you to get this quest done and get the storyline underway as well.

Final point - these zombies are pretty slow moving - you can actually run past them sometimes with them unable to catch up to you. Use this to your advantage - draw them into preferred killing zones or bottlenecks to allow you to headshot them (I favour a pistol with zoom function and extra damage class mod myself).

Zombies can be headshot easily from up on high as well, as there are areas where you can stand above them, take a minimum of damage and shoot them as they mill around ala a George Romero movie.

Excellent guide! This works out perfectly so far for us. As soon as we could get the quest activated, we did. We went ahead and did the 10, 25, 50, and 100 brain quests. We quit for the night at that point, but we went ahead and activated the 250-brain quest, and we plan to play the rest of the DLC as normal.

Major kudos!

Where can I find Hollows End? I already beat all the missions on Zombie Island, but I never knew about this mission until afterwords and I don't remember where Pumpkinhead mission was. How exactly do I find Hollows End?

originalKILLJOY - there is decent signage throughout the area which might help - but a good way to get there if you've already done Pumpkinhead is to follow this guide in the Borderlands wikia -

Credit for this video goes to Mr360Games. You need the Zombie Island DLC to obtain this. The quest starter is in Hallows End (location in video) and you have to give TK his leg back which is basically infront of his house. After that you have to obtain 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 brains ANY BRAINS YOU COLLECT BEFORE STARTING THIS MISSION DO NOT COUNT

This has probably already been mentioned somewhere, but the zombies are particularly weak against incendiary weapons, so any weapon that causes fire will hurt them more. On the other hand, they are resistant to corrosive weapons, so avoid those when looking to dispatch many zombies quickly.
Currently I am going through the zombie island with an incendiary machine pistol to cover a couple of the challenges quickly (kills with a pistol, incendiary kills, human kills, critical hit kills, and pistol proficiency are all taken care of with this gun in this area).
Yes, I know at the time of posting I don't have this achievement yet, but I will very soon, just about twenty brains away. I ran out of time this morning before I had to go to work.
Edit- Got it. Its so much fun watching the brains fly out of their head.

The fastest way I have found to do this is spawn in jakobs cove and from the spawn point make your way toward the lumber yard. Once at the lumber yard press start and exit your game, and then just start your game back up it will put you at the beginning at the spawn point it will save all your brains. Keep doing this I was getting over 100 brains per run easy.

Some tips that helped it go a little faster is change your sensitivity to very low and use a decent revolver and just hip fire the small reticle makes it easy to hit the head.

What really helped me in harvesting brains was a handy shotgun, since they do large damage up close and you could easily run up to a zombie and shoot it in the head, and out pops the brain.

The Braaaaaaaaaaaaains! mission is a side quest line given by 'Zombie TK Baha' who can be found far west of 'Hallow's End'. I highly advise you go meet Zombie TK Baha on your way to the waypoint of the third mission 'House of the Ned' so that any zombies you kill throughout the DLC will count.
External image
Now once you've met Zombie TK Baha he will give you the mission quest line, there are 5 missions that all revolve around collecting a set number of zombie brains to give to TK. In order to get zombie brains you need to kill zombies by headshot so grab your best sniper rifle/assault rifle/SMG/Pistol and aim for the head. Every zombie counts and I advise you to return to TK the second you gather enough brains to complete each mission to avoid wasting time grinding at the end.

The 5 missions are:
◾Brains - 10 brains
◾Braaains - 25 brains
◾Braaaaains - 50 brains
◾Braaaaaaaaaaaains - 100 brains
◾Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains - 250 brains

First, you must complete 4 prior missions before obtaining this one. The quest giver is TK, located in Hallow's End (see video below). For these missions, you must collect brains, which drop from getting head shots off zombies. You will need to collect a grand total of 435 brains to unlock this trophy (250 for the Braaaaaaaaaaaaains! mission alone).

Do not waste time collecting more brains once you have completed one of the missions. For example, if you have collected 50 brains for the third mission and continue to collect brains before turning it in and starting the fourth mission, the extra brains you picked up will not count towards the next mission. So be sure to stop collecting brains once a mission is complete and ready to "turn in."

Thankfully, there are zombies everywhere so there is not a need to really farm one specific area. Just go about progressing through the game and then afterwards, go back and play again if need be.

Here's a good video detailing the jest of the trophy requirements. Credit goes to Double.

Happy Hunting :)

This achievement will take the longest to complete but can be done whilst completing other missions. Also if you have more than one player all players can collect towards the total this will make it far easier and quicker.

To activate this misson you have to take TK's wooden leg to his new "zombiefied self" His leg is located on a porch at the south west of the map in Hallows End once you have this in your possesion go into the buiding you found the leg on and give it to zombie TK.
He will then give you the missions to collect zombie brains to feed TK.

  1. Collect 10 Brains
  2. Collect 25 Brains
  3. Collect 50 Brains
  4. Collect 100 Brains
  5. Collect 250 Brains

To get the zombies to drop a brain upon death try to kill them by a head shot. I found using a shotgun and aiming point blank in their face worked best, as opposed to using a sniper rifle.
After collecting each stage you have to return to TK who will eat the brains in front of you and then puke up a collectable as a reward.

Make sure that you collect the set amount for the mission. Return to TK then start the next mission. You cannot collect 200 brains and turn them all in at once.

The quest can be taken from... (however, you will find out from the plot), I will tell you where.
We go to the Hallow`s end area.
To complete the quest you need to collect:
1. 10 brains
2. 25 brains
3. 50 brains
4. 100 brains
5. 250 brains
Shoot zombies in the head to get their brains. It's best to use a shotgun, but that's a personal choice. It is important not to collect all the brains at once, but to collect only the right amount. If you bring 15 brains for the first quest, they will take all 15, not 10. It is also important that the brains do not disappear, even after moving between zones.

I advise you to take the quest as early as possible while you complete other missions, you will knock out brains, and give up everything to hand in when you collect the required amount, up to the 250 brains quest we need, completing other missions, collecting brains will not seem like such a routine task.
