How to unlock the Ding! Champion achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide

Thanx to WarBoundification for this workaround!

This solution is most likely the easiest and fastest way do gain XP, but it has two conditions; The challenge "Merchant of death" must be unobtained. (sell 1200 items / 20,000XP), and you need some cash.
Say you start from scratch (0 sold items), you need $287,760 to do this trick, so you have preferably already completed the game before even reading this.

What is going to happen is this; you will gain 20,000XP for every save/load.

Here's what to do:
-Travel to Fyrestone, and go the Zed's vending machine (cheaper)
-Buy as many Light Healing Kits you can fit in your Backpack
-Sell them just as fast
-Rinse and repeat 'till you reach the amount of 1,199 sold items in your Challenge Log.
-SAVE

It is most important that you save at 1,199 sold items, NOT more! If you save at 1,200, you will have lost this golden opportunity. So check your log!

Now the good stuff:
-Load
-Return to Zed's vending machine
-Sell one item of your choice, and BUY IT BACK (Use the "Buyback" option)
-Exit vending machine

Now you will receive 20,000XP for completing the challenge "Merchant of Death", but since you bought the last item back, it will be deducted from the counter, and still show 1,199!

Save yet again to register the newly added 20,000XP, and load her up again.

There is no limit for how many times you can repeat this.

Well, I tried your solution, and it really does work, -- the leveling that is, -- but it's really much more fun to find a L50 group with an open spot and tag along. Sure you'll die a lot, but it's much more fun, and you'll find better weapons you can use when you get to L48, and it takes about 2-3 hours to go from 40 to 50.

It works great. I could get one about every 40 seconds or so. DON'T STOP BEFORE LEVEL 50 LIKE I DID. It's a pain even on the 2nd playthrough to level up. Just go from whatever level you're on to 50. You'll be worlds happier later. Believe me.

you can also do that at T-Bone Junction. There is a grenade vending machine not far from the starting point. So simply buy a cheap weapon and use that as the item you are gonna sell then buyback. The reason why this place is better is because you have 5 safes here with pretty good amount of cash between 300$ and 1000$+ so you can boost the 1M$ achievement aswell at the same time.

Confirmed - working as of 12/7/2012. I am also using this technique for getting to level 61 on the DLC achievements (2 of them). Only problem is i can not progress with quests and collecting items because once you save after the 1200 selling mark, the work around does not work. Saves on time for grinding the level and this will allow me to enjoy the 2nd play through and the DLC more now that I don't have to worry about leveling. Cheers to you +1.

Should i do this after or before i do other achievements? I want to become the highest lvl this way but i don't know if it'll screw up Completionist, Big Tournament, or Sneaky Little Buggers/Vincible. If i become lvl 61 this way, my current weapons will suck around then. What do i do, just buy new weapons or? I still want to get those other achievements afterwards.

Still works as of March 20th 2021, I ran into a problem where if I spent my skill point, my XP wouldn't save so make sure to save your skill points until the end of the grind if you encounter a similar problem. Also, I had to wait a few seconds to get the option to save so don't quit right away or else it won't count.

I used this, and wanted to comment to give a little more information.
1) It works
2) This takes a looooong time. At a level 40 it took a while to get up to the required 1999 items... and even longer to get to level 50 by saving and loading, even with it installed to the HD
3) Get all the SDU's first.
4) Throw everything on the ground before you start. I did this with my friends profile active as second player to make sure nothing disappeared until I sold the 1999 items (it did not).

I'm still level 47 as of posting. 1 day, 9 hours playing. First playthrough was local coop from the start. Great post, it really saved me some time since I would rather play as a different character.

One other note, I could never buy minor kits, only the $480 ones..... but I'm still pretty rich at this point.

This also works for the "How much for the planet?" challenge for earning $9,999,999, so you can split it up a bit if you want throughout the game provided you make sure to hit the mark by selling to a vendor and not on a quest.

Still working as of 12/21/2016

One thing to note, when you exit the game to save and reload again, make sure it says "All progress will be saved.". If it says "Unsaved progress will be lost.", it won't count. Just wait a few more seconds and try again.

An easy way to get for co-op is to get a Lvl. 45 or up friend or two(Never hurts). Have your friend make a game on the 2nd playthrough(More XP and MUCH better weapons). Go do everything in New Haven. Have your friends take out almost everything there until you get strong enough to take out enemies on your own. Another good thing to do is the Rakk Hive boss fight on Trash Coast. You will get a good amount of XP from the Rakk alone and you will get a lot more from the Rakk hive itself. This same method can be used to get Pandora dog Millionaire, just get more weapons and shields to increase your money. If you really need help with this I will help you level up, just add me.

Another easy way to do this is to get a level 50 or 61 friend to load a second playthrough and take you to Eridian Promometry. Get him to go forwards and kill everything. This will take a while as every time you rank up you get less and less xp. Should only take a few hours

Definitely, the quickest way to level up without exploiting and glitches. Even with the latest patch that raised the level cap to 69, me and my friend got from barely 68 to 69 in less than one run from the start all the way to the vault after the enemies scaled from beating the game.

Another quick method 2 level up quicker is 2 keep killing Whiskey Wesley, Red Jack, Big Foot, & Father O' Callahan on the Zombie Island DLC. I leveled up 3-4 times using this method on the 1st playthrough, then another 3-4 times on the 2nd playthrough. It's especially entertaining 2 fight all 4 of them @ once with a level 38 siren !!!! Destroying lance bots & lance soldiers on the General Knox Armory DLC during the 1st & 2nd playthrough also helped 2 boost exp.

Hey guys,

I noticed something last night when following one of these solutions above.
If you follow the Merchant of Death guide, but sell something which makes your money go up to 999,999,999 and then buy it back you will get 20k exp from 'Merchant of Death' & 20k exp from 'How much for the planet?'. You reload the same but you just sell something more expensive.

I was in a multiplayer game and someone dropped an item worth 450k so i sold that, bought it back and when i went to the normal screen i had completed 2 challenges and got 40k exp; I earned level 40-61 in around 2 hours.

I know this solution is posted when the game is dated but hope it helps. Also; The video below is how to do the Merchant of Death solution, like i said just sell an expensive weapon to hit the 999,999,999 dollar cap and get 40k exp a time..

God bless :)

If you want to get this achievement quick, you should have friend (or friends) who finished Borderlands on playthrough 2. He has to be on level 50 and it'll be nice if he have powerful weapon too.
Then he have to invite you to his game and teleport you to Erdian Promontory, also in playthrough 2. Killing enemies in this location should give you a strong expirience boost (around 14,000 per kill if you are at level 40 or less). This is hardest but the quickest way to get level 50.

And if you don't have a friend with this requirements, you can type to me on xbox Live!, becouse i have the one of most powerful weapons in this game, so it won't be problem to level you up. It's a Combat Rifle which deals 1830 damage or so.

Sorry for my English (i wish it wasn't as bad as i think) :)

First off, you'll need 3,429,728 XP to get level 50. The most active way to earn this trophy is to complete all missions (which will count towards other trophies) and killing, or have a teammate kill, all enemies equal to or greater than your level.

Do not waste time reloading and replaying through certain parts of the game as progressing to Playthrough 2 will in all likelihood get you to unlocking this trophy quicker. Once playing through Playthrough 2, feel free to reload and play areas that have enemies that are no greater than 3 levels above you, as the difficulty to handle mobs will be too time consuming. As you progress, keep using the same strategy mentioned above and you this will be yours sooner than you know it!

Some all-around tips to making this go faster are as follows:

Focus on improving gun proficiency for 2 weapons only. I recommend SMG and Revolver due to the fast reload and moderate damage of the SMG which can handle mobs, while the Revolver deals high amounts of damage, best used for strong enemies and bosses.

Keep on hand all types of elemental weapons. When combining this with the previous tip, you should have 5 different weapons for each weapon type you choose to have, keeping your backpack filled with at least 10 weapons. This will come more in handy than you realize, especially playing solo.

If you can manage to gather a decent boosting party, definitely play co-op as the experience gained will be much more.

Avoid dying by always having an exit to fall back to. If facing bosses, just keep running around while you heal. In either case, dying will be the biggest drawback to leveling quicker as you have to run back to where you were before progressing forward. And since enemies do not respawn, there is nothing to gain.

Feel free to comment with more tips!

Happy Hunting :)

This should come to you as you progress to the final level of your second playthrough. XP can be earned by killing enemies, completing quests, and completing challenges (Challenges can be found by pressing under the quests tab). Re-run the last area of the game on your second playthrough if needed.

Power-leveling can be used to get an early boost this and will definitely help as you progress through the game. To power level, it is required that you have at least 2 players, one who is just starting the game and the other who has completed at least Playthrough 1. The higher level character must teleport to the last level of the game in Playthrough 1 or 2 and rush through and kill all of the enemies. This will allow very large XP boosts to go to the lower-level player. It is possible to get to level 20 during one run and this is very helpful when starting out.

There is another way to quickly get this trophy, provided that the ps3 is connected to the Internet: in the game menu, go to OnlineGame, select the character whose we are going to download, and join (Join game) players whose level is significantly higher than yours. We go through missions together and a huge amount of Experience from killing your comrades will be counted towards you. This way we will pump up to 50lv))) When passing, try to stay in cover, because enemies and the damage from their attacks will also be of a higher level.
