How to unlock the Ding! Overleveled achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide
Also note that if you had your XP bar maxed out for level 50 (and 1 XP point would have put you into 51) that your XP bar is now reset and you start as if you just obtained level 50.
Happy hunting!
Since the last title update, you can unlock this achievement sans the appropriate DLC.
Do note though that ANY EXP earnt during your time maxxed out at level 50 before this DLC dropped will not be added onto your score... you start at the beginning of 50 always.
An easy way to help do this I have found, if there are any missions that you haven't turned in for, for whatever reason, simply trace back and turn them in - not only are the enemies levels boosted significantly but you also get the extra EXP from turning in or completing any challenges.
Those who haven't completed Mad Moxxi yet may be enlightened to know that by completing the 20 round missions, you will score a lot of EXP - so now might be the time to take them on!
Alternatively, running over a few enemies or just playing through the DLC normally will probably do the trick all the same.
Finish Playthrough 1
Finish Playthrough 2
Start the DLC---
---Start Zombie Island.
----------------------------------------
You should hit 50 at this point.
Start General Knoxx and play through and you'll hit 51 pretty fast, giving you the achievement.
If you're not 50 at the end of Zombie Island, keep fighting in the Eridian Promontory in Playthrough 2.
Do not waste time reloading and replaying through certain parts of the game as progressing to Playthrough 2 will in all likelihood get you to unlocking this trophy quicker. Once playing through Playthrough 2, feel free to reload and play areas that have enemies that are no greater than 3 levels above you, as the difficulty to handle mobs will be too time consuming. As you progress, keep using the same strategy mentioned above and you this will be yours sooner than you know it!
Some all-around tips to making this go faster are as follows:
Focus on improving gun proficiency for 2 weapons only. I recommend SMG and Revolver due to the fast reload and moderate damage of the SMG which can handle mobs, while the Revolver deals high amounts of damage, best used for strong enemies and bosses.
Keep on hand all types of elemental weapons. When combining this with the previous tip, you should have 5 different weapons for each weapon type you choose to have, keeping your backpack filled with at least 10 weapons. This will come more in handy than you realize, especially playing solo.
If you can manage to gather a decent boosting party, definitely play co-op as the experience gained will be much more.
Avoid dying by always having an exit to fall back to. If facing bosses, just keep running around while you heal. In either case, dying will be the biggest drawback to leveling quicker as you have to run back to where you were before progressing forward. And since enemies do not respawn, there is nothing to gain.
Feel free to comment with more tips!
Happy Hunting :)
This achievement should come fairly early on into the DLC. You should be on playthrough two at this point and I suggest that you play the DLC on it to maximize the amount of experience you can gain. If you're like me, you may not have finished playthrough two of the original game. If this is true, I suggest you do those quests to get yourself to about level 52/53 before you even start the DLC. The reason for this is that playthrough two quests for this DLC start at level 51. If you're under that, you may have a tough time surviving.
See "Ding! Overleveled to 11" for more info.
