How to unlock the Ding! Overleveled to 11 achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide
What you do is travel to Fyrestone, and go the Zed's vending machine. Buy a heap of healing kits and then sell them all. Keep doing this until you've sold exactly 1,199 items. (You can check this in your challenge log.)
NOW SAVE AND EXIT
Now all you need to do is load, go to the vending machine, Sell one item then 'buy back', now exit the vending machine.
You'll get the 20,000XP for completing 'Merchant of Death'
Save and load again, and you'll notice you still have the 20,000XP but the challenge hasn't been done. so sell, buy back, exit and load until you have all the XP you need.
Once you are in the Circle of Duty, you will have to fight through many waves of enemies that are mostly the same level as you. It doesn't matter if you keep getting crushed as you go through the rounds (there are 5 rounds to complete the Circle of Duty) because you don't lose XP if you die, so keep fighting your way through enemies until you reach level 61. It doesn't take long at all and it might help to have a few friends with you.
On your second playthrough, go to the Knoxx Armory DLC. Play through a few of the beginning quests until you get the Motor Head quest. Start the quest, gather the info, and then go to where Motor Head spawns.
Kill Motor Head (I use a 4x Fire SMG and it whittles him down in just two or three clips - I also drop my turret). You can continue to back up the ramp outside of his garage and he won't follow you very far. This allows you to shoot him from a distance without getting killed.
After you kill him (and you gain massive experience) simply press "start" on your controller. Exit. Then load up your character on Playthrough 2, drive back to the Motor Head spawn, and repeat. It eventually takes around 45-90 seconds per kill / save / reload. As a level 51, with a +24% experience equipped, I've been getting around 100,000 experience per kill.
This is by far the easiest way that I have found to farm experience once you're at a higher level.
Alternatively, after killing Motor Head, you can open the trash can in his garage which spawns one of the Loot Midgets. This midget, in my opinion, is harder to kill than Motor Head and only gives you 1/3-1/2 of the experience, so it might not be worth it.
Also, even after you've leveled up completely you can use this method to raise your weapon proficiency levels.
Do note though that ANY EXP earnt during your time maxxed out at level 50 before this DLC dropped will not be added onto your score... you start at the beginning of 50 always.
Some tips that might help you though - if there are any missions that you haven't turned in for, for whatever reason, simply trace back and turn them in - not only are the enemies levels boosted significantly but you also get the extra EXP from turning in or completing any challenges.
Drifters are an excellent way to get lots of EXP and Gold... jump in a Monster and keep firing rockets at them - just remember to keep your distance.
Those who haven't completed Mad Moxxi yet may be enlightened to know that by completing the 20 round missions, you will score a lot of EXP - so now might be the time to take them on!
when you're playing through the DLC you'll come across a mission to meet Zack in the Circle of Cuty. once you meet him, he'll give you five missions back to back. each mission is to survive a round of the Circle of Duty, and each round gets harder with more enimies.
if you aren't a level 61 by the time you get to the 5th mission, Circle of Duty: Metal of Duty, then simply don't survive the round. wait till the second lancer vehicle appears, blow it up, then allow yourself to die. if anyone dies durring a round of the Circle of Duty, you have to start the whole round over again. just keep doing the last one till you're level 61, but it shouldn't take long at all! me, and friends, level'd one or two times each round.
makes sure to have the skill to boost how much EXP you earn, if you have that skill. if you don't, reset your tree so you do. and use class mods that boost the amount of EXP you get too!
ammo regen class mods help out a lot as well!
I just personally discovered this method after using I Cluttz I's solutions, (which is very useful and helpful by the way for people that haven't been introduced to any modded weaponry and have played the game through legit, props to you guys, but i could just not sit through it ) and being just one level shy of 61.
When you're fighting Crawmerax the Invincible, just be sure you're not standing near the large cliffside with the drop off, as him and including his little friends could easily knock you off if they charge at you. So just be sure when you get up there, run towards the back side of the battlefield that is safely guarded with all the nice, friendly giant rocks to protect you from any such health hazardous incidents. So what you wanna do while you're fighting him, just wait for his buddies to spawn and keep casually taking them out, the little guys were giving me 6,000-9,000 exp, the big crab thingies gave me 35,000-45,000 exp, and Crawmerax himself gives you over 100,000 exp, and plus just the quest alone gives you 30,000 exp.
Anyways if you don't like my solution or it just doesn't work for you like the way it did with me, stick to I Cluttz I's solution, which is very good and still works to this day as of May 9th, 2016. This way would just cut a bit of time off for the people that are ready to get these tedious 'leveling' achievements done with.
This is my first "solution", so please don't be too harsh.
Again i feel like i must repeat myself one more time for the people that are blind and suffer from a 10 second memory loss disorder, saying "oh well this shit is pointless since they're all 20 levels higher than me and its impossible to kill them."
FOR PEOPLE WITH MODDED WEAPONS AND SHIELDS ONLY
Do not waste time reloading and replaying through certain parts of the game as progressing to Playthrough 2 will in all likelihood get you to unlocking this trophy quicker. Once playing through Playthrough 2, feel free to reload and play areas that have enemies that are no greater than 3 levels above you, as the difficulty to handle mobs will be too time consuming. As you progress, keep using the same strategy mentioned above and you should get this prior to completing Playthrough 2.
Alternatively, depending on your skill level and knowledge of the Crawmerax glitch, you can also do Crawmerax runs on Playthrough 1 as soon as you can. You should gain a level each time you kill him (may take 2-3 kills when getting closer to level 61).
Some all-around tips to making this go faster are as follows:
Focus on improving gun proficiency for 2 weapons only. I recommend SMG and Revolver due to the fast reload and moderate damage of the SMG which can handle mobs, while the Revolver deals high amounts of damage, best used for strong enemies and bosses.
Keep on hand all types of elemental weapons. When combining this with the previous tip, you should have 5 different weapons for each weapon type you choose to have, keeping your backpack filled with at least 10 weapons. This will come more in handy than you realize, especially playing solo.
If you can manage to gather a decent boosting party, definitely play co-op as the experience gained will be much more.
Avoid dying by always having an exit to fall back to. If facing bosses, just keep running around while you heal. In either case, dying will be the biggest drawback to leveling quicker as you have to run back to where you were before progressing forward. And since enemies do not respawn, there is nothing to gain.
Feel free to comment with more tips!
Happy Hunting :)
This is the highest you can get your level to legitimately. Getting there will require you to accumulate 5985083 total experience. Though this may sound like a lot, there's more than enough experience available in this DLC to make it there. Any experience earned from the original game or other DLCs count towards you experience total. Therefore if you haven't completed missions from those stories feel free to do so once download this DLC. With completing missions and killing enemies, you should level up very quickly. If you want to really expedite the process though, you could try to join a group killing Crawmerax as that boss and his minions give boat loads of XP.
