How to unlock the Ding! Overleveled to 11 achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide

If you don't already have the challenge 'Merchant of death' (sell 1200 items for 20,000XP) you can get this achievement pretty quickly.

What you do is travel to Fyrestone, and go the Zed's vending machine. Buy a heap of healing kits and then sell them all. Keep doing this until you've sold exactly 1,199 items. (You can check this in your challenge log.)

NOW SAVE AND EXIT

Now all you need to do is load, go to the vending machine, Sell one item then 'buy back', now exit the vending machine.

You'll get the 20,000XP for completing 'Merchant of Death'

Save and load again, and you'll notice you still have the 20,000XP but the challenge hasn't been done. so sell, buy back, exit and load until you have all the XP you need.

out of curiosity, what happens if you don't save and quit after you get the 20,000 xp and do it?

Appreciating the negative votes. Thought they were ment for solutions that didn't work?? Guess people just vote negative without a good reason.

I kept trying to figure out how this works.

Is it because "Buying Back" an item you just sold reduces the count on the "Challenges Log"? Otherwise I don't get how this would work.

God, thanks for this. I screwed up my main character by loading all the DLC (on both playthroughs) at an earlier level. At first I thought easy DLC cheeves was a good idea, then I ran through with a friend. I didn't realize I'd get stuck at level 51. So I'm doing this with my lvl 48 Hunter. Hopefully he can kill Crawlamax!

This does go a little bit easier if you have rescued many claptraps and expanded your inventory.

A great method for obtaining XP.

Can also be applied to many other challenges.

If you play normally, including the DLC, and a second playthrough, you'll easily get this without saving and quitting challenges, besides you get better equipment and money along the way by doing missions.

This method works like a charm, but it's faster if you do it in the Underdome. From the title screen it took me 12 seconds longer to load the Arid Badlands than it did the Underdome. Saved me about 20 minutes of grinding.

Worked for me.

Make sure when you Exit, the screen says "all progress will be saved." If you're too quick, it will say "unsaved progress will be lost" and won't save when you exit. If that happens, just wait a few seconds and then try to exit again.

Just got from 49 to 52 pretty quickly but it seemed like it was still taking too long. Wish I saw Vektor0’s comment as I wasted a bunch of attempts where the 20k xp didn’t save. The fact that you need the exit prompt to say, “All progress will be saved.” should be added as a “NOTE:” to the achievement solution.

Some people would rather drop any non-essentials than go the shop and sell them, after I completed the game (excluding levels and 15 kills on characters) I still had over 1000 to do. And to SPECTEONS answer (even though he might not look at this) no others might not work since you have to save after each challenge completed and you cant reclose that chest

Still works! Thanks for the guide. I came back to this game to finish up achievements I never completed but found out my save data was gone, and had to start a new character. If anyone else is in a similar position, I was level 26 when I was able to start this trick. It took me that long to save up enough cash, and sell enough normal items along the way. I'm sure it may be possible to start at an earlier level if you dedicate your efforts. I just ran through story and a few side missions, selling all the loot I found except for my main weapons. Every time I had $60-80,000, I would spend it grinding sales using Light Healing Kit purchases.

Hope that helps anyone looking for an idea on when a new character can start cheesing EXP.

I've already cleared the Merchant of Death a long time ago. =(
Nuka Cola Cap says this solution "can also be applied to many other challenges"
But I thought that it needed to be a challenge you can 'undo' after earning its xp, like buying back something you sold so your sell count goes back down. But you can't unkill anything, or close opened lootables.
So what other challenges would this apply to?

By SpiritedSojourn on 15 Jun 2023 04:05
This is working fine for me, yes the "buy back" reduces the items sold even though you just triggered the challenge complete and got the 20,000xp.

As a side note it takes about 45 seconds to load your game, sell an item, buy it back then exit & save. I'm currently at level 42 and it's taking 160,000xp to level up so I'm gaining a level every 6-7 minutes. It's really tedious though, I'm going back to playing normally soon.

Also be aware that the game does actually save on exit. If you hit the start button too soon after leaving the vending machine you will exit without saving.

The quickest and probably the easiest way to get this achievement is to go to the Circle of Duty in the General Knoxx DLC. The Circle of Duty has its own map/area. If you have trouble finding the Circle of Duty, you will eventually get the mission for Circle of Duty: New Recruit on the bounty board in T-Bone Junction.

Once you are in the Circle of Duty, you will have to fight through many waves of enemies that are mostly the same level as you. It doesn't matter if you keep getting crushed as you go through the rounds (there are 5 rounds to complete the Circle of Duty) because you don't lose XP if you die, so keep fighting your way through enemies until you reach level 61. It doesn't take long at all and it might help to have a few friends with you.

I was a level 51, stuck grinding through the quests and killing every enemy I could find when I stumbled upon this method of farming.

On your second playthrough, go to the Knoxx Armory DLC. Play through a few of the beginning quests until you get the Motor Head quest. Start the quest, gather the info, and then go to where Motor Head spawns.

Kill Motor Head (I use a 4x Fire SMG and it whittles him down in just two or three clips - I also drop my turret). You can continue to back up the ramp outside of his garage and he won't follow you very far. This allows you to shoot him from a distance without getting killed.

After you kill him (and you gain massive experience) simply press "start" on your controller. Exit. Then load up your character on Playthrough 2, drive back to the Motor Head spawn, and repeat. It eventually takes around 45-90 seconds per kill / save / reload. As a level 51, with a +24% experience equipped, I've been getting around 100,000 experience per kill.

This is by far the easiest way that I have found to farm experience once you're at a higher level.

Alternatively, after killing Motor Head, you can open the trash can in his garage which spawns one of the Loot Midgets. This midget, in my opinion, is harder to kill than Motor Head and only gives you 1/3-1/2 of the experience, so it might not be worth it.

Also, even after you've leveled up completely you can use this method to raise your weapon proficiency levels.

Can confirm this works, Started this boost at level 55, with no bonus xp talents or mod (Siren class). i was getting 78K a kill, 56 it droppped to 55K and 57 is currently on 38K, so it diminishes greatly.

Wow, this method is great! I went from level 60 to 69 in about an hour. I did it on my second playthrough and for some reason Motorhead was always two levels ahead of me, and I was able to maintain an amount of 100,000 XP per kill throughout. I ended up fighting a level 70 Motorhead at the end. Thanks for the guide!

Perfect strategy. After defeating General Knoxx, Motorhead levels up above your level and it becomes very easy to get the last levels (I was getting 100,000+ postgame); just make sure you have an incendiary weapon! Very important.

Most people were already at level 50 by the time this DLC released, therefore you only need to level up 11 more times before you get this achievement. I assume that by just playing through the DLC that you will get this although I have no confirmation just yet.

Do note though that ANY EXP earnt during your time maxxed out at level 50 before this DLC dropped will not be added onto your score... you start at the beginning of 50 always.

Some tips that might help you though - if there are any missions that you haven't turned in for, for whatever reason, simply trace back and turn them in - not only are the enemies levels boosted significantly but you also get the extra EXP from turning in or completing any challenges.

Drifters are an excellent way to get lots of EXP and Gold... jump in a Monster and keep firing rockets at them - just remember to keep your distance.

Those who haven't completed Mad Moxxi yet may be enlightened to know that by completing the 20 round missions, you will score a lot of EXP - so now might be the time to take them on!

there is a very simple, very fast way of this. and you don't have to boost. This can only be done on the second playthrough.

when you're playing through the DLC you'll come across a mission to meet Zack in the Circle of Cuty. once you meet him, he'll give you five missions back to back. each mission is to survive a round of the Circle of Duty, and each round gets harder with more enimies.

if you aren't a level 61 by the time you get to the 5th mission, Circle of Duty: Metal of Duty, then simply don't survive the round. wait till the second lancer vehicle appears, blow it up, then allow yourself to die. if anyone dies durring a round of the Circle of Duty, you have to start the whole round over again. just keep doing the last one till you're level 61, but it shouldn't take long at all! me, and friends, level'd one or two times each round.

makes sure to have the skill to boost how much EXP you earn, if you have that skill. if you don't, reset your tree so you do. and use class mods that boost the amount of EXP you get too!
ammo regen class mods help out a lot as well!

**This solution is for people that have access or already have a modded weapon and/or modded shield**

I just personally discovered this method after using I Cluttz I's solutions, (which is very useful and helpful by the way for people that haven't been introduced to any modded weaponry and have played the game through legit, props to you guys, but i could just not sit through it rock) and being just one level shy of 61.

When you're fighting Crawmerax the Invincible, just be sure you're not standing near the large cliffside with the drop off, as him and including his little friends could easily knock you off if they charge at you. So just be sure when you get up there, run towards the back side of the battlefield that is safely guarded with all the nice, friendly giant rocks to protect you from any such health hazardous incidents. So what you wanna do while you're fighting him, just wait for his buddies to spawn and keep casually taking them out, the little guys were giving me 6,000-9,000 exp, the big crab thingies gave me 35,000-45,000 exp, and Crawmerax himself gives you over 100,000 exp, and plus just the quest alone gives you 30,000 exp.

Anyways if you don't like my solution or it just doesn't work for you like the way it did with me, stick to I Cluttz I's solution, which is very good and still works to this day as of May 9th, 2016. This way would just cut a bit of time off for the people that are ready to get these tedious 'leveling' achievements done with.

This is my first "solution", so please don't be too harsh. toast
Again i feel like i must repeat myself one more time for the people that are blind and suffer from a 10 second memory loss disorder, saying "oh well this shit is pointless since they're all 20 levels higher than me and its impossible to kill them."
FOR PEOPLE WITH MODDED WEAPONS AND SHIELDS ONLY

First off, you'll need 5,985,086 XP to get level 61. The most active way to earn this trophy is to complete all missions (which will count towards other trophies) and killing, or have a teammate kill, all enemies equal to or greater than your level.

Do not waste time reloading and replaying through certain parts of the game as progressing to Playthrough 2 will in all likelihood get you to unlocking this trophy quicker. Once playing through Playthrough 2, feel free to reload and play areas that have enemies that are no greater than 3 levels above you, as the difficulty to handle mobs will be too time consuming. As you progress, keep using the same strategy mentioned above and you should get this prior to completing Playthrough 2.

Alternatively, depending on your skill level and knowledge of the Crawmerax glitch, you can also do Crawmerax runs on Playthrough 1 as soon as you can. You should gain a level each time you kill him (may take 2-3 kills when getting closer to level 61).

Some all-around tips to making this go faster are as follows:

Focus on improving gun proficiency for 2 weapons only. I recommend SMG and Revolver due to the fast reload and moderate damage of the SMG which can handle mobs, while the Revolver deals high amounts of damage, best used for strong enemies and bosses.

Keep on hand all types of elemental weapons. When combining this with the previous tip, you should have 5 different weapons for each weapon type you choose to have, keeping your backpack filled with at least 10 weapons. This will come more in handy than you realize, especially playing solo.

If you can manage to gather a decent boosting party, definitely play co-op as the experience gained will be much more.

Avoid dying by always having an exit to fall back to. If facing bosses, just keep running around while you heal. In either case, dying will be the biggest drawback to leveling quicker as you have to run back to where you were before progressing forward. And since enemies do not respawn, there is nothing to gain.

Feel free to comment with more tips!

Happy Hunting :)

This is the highest you can get your level to legitimately. Getting there will require you to accumulate 5985083 total experience. Though this may sound like a lot, there's more than enough experience available in this DLC to make it there. Any experience earned from the original game or other DLCs count towards you experience total. Therefore if you haven't completed missions from those stories feel free to do so once download this DLC. With completing missions and killing enemies, you should level up very quickly. If you want to really expedite the process though, you could try to join a group killing Crawmerax as that boss and his minions give boat loads of XP.
