Sold 50 guns to a shop

How to unlock the Fence achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide

This is really as simple as it sounds. Find and loot 50 guns, grenades mods, or shields that you don't want to use and sell them to a shop. The vending machines are the shops in this game. You do not have to sell 50 items to a specific kind of vending machine or to a specific one. It is cumulative throughout your gameplay.

In order to make this a little bit faster you can play as the Hunter and use the skill "Ransack" which gives a percentage chance to get additional loot for every kill. In reality this should come very easy in normal play and you will not need the extra loot bonuses.

Update: This achievement has been reported to be glitched and not update for some people (myself included). I will update this post when I find a way to correct the issue.

Updatev2: The achievements that glitched for me are unlocking on an alternate character. I haven't sold 50 guns yet for this achievement, but I will update again when I have.

Updatev3: I can confirm that if you had the glitch where you didn't get the achievement on your first character, it is possible to create another character and get the achievement. Hopefully you are not unlucky and have the glitch twice and have to create a third character. So far, my second character has received every achievement that glitched for my first character including this one.

i dont have this game so didnt want to write a solution but theoretically you could just sell any 50 items if you want them or not get the achievement then load your previous save (saving before you sell). so then you get achievements + guns. obviously obsolete if you have a ton of s**t guns and need money

That probably would work, but I think it would be more trouble than it's worth. You only start the game with 12 inventory slots but you can upgrade that to 42. By the time you get that high you should already have this achievement without trying.

Also there are challenges in the game that award you bonus XP from doing certain tasks. Four of these challenges are to sell X amount of items.

Ditto with the glitch... this game is bad about this.

This achievement is glitched for me as well but the solution above worked fine for the guy I have been playing Co-op with. I have a few other achievements that have glitched for me also. I have heard that the glitches are character specific so if you create a new character you may be able to get the achievement on the second try. I will test this out tonight and post an update based on what I have found.

Just a question - selling them to a shop - does that exclude any you sell to the munitions vending machines around the game, or are they included?

Yeah I'm confused about this one. Do you have to sell them at same shop? Also does shop mean vending machine?

Have heard reports that the glitches are Co-op based. Try starting a character and dont use it in co-op. Dunno if this is true or not, but it worked w/ me and the static kill achievement.

Grenade mods also count towards the achievement.

My fiftieth thing sold was a shield and it popped just fine. This was my second character, however, which I made just because I wanted to, not because of glitches.

Is there an in-game reward for selling 50 weapons?

It's possible that if the 50th item you sell in the game isnt actually a gun (i.e. shield, mod, etc) that is what glitches the cheev. Since the achievement says sell fifty guns try making sure your 50th item is a gun, not something different.

If you are a little far into the game and can afford to do this, I can confirm that you can simply buy all the items offered in a vending machine shop such as guns and mods and simply sell it back to the shop and this will count towards the achievement. However, it WILL NOT count if you sell them a gun and try to buy that same gun from the buyback menu and sell it back.

Go to New Haven and search all of the boxes scattered around the buildings. I think there are about 5 each with two weapons. After you have them all save the game leave then join again. Repeat this until you have 50 guns in your inventory the just go to the shop sell them all and the achievement should pop up.

-Sell all the guns you bought.

Over the course of the game, if you pick everything up, you'll end up with lots of unneeded gear. If you sell this gear, you'll get lots of money, which counts towards the Pandora Dog Millionaire achievement. All of your weapons, shields and other gear pieces count towards the Fence achievement. It doesn't just have to be guns. If you have lots of money, you can also buy weapons from a gun store and sell them. However, if you keep buying back and selling a single weapon, it doesn't count for the achievement. It only counts if you buy new weapons and sell them. You can even head to different locations with gun stores to buy and sell weapons. The cheapest guns are located in a gun vending machine in Fyrestone. If you sell everything you don't need, and buy and sell some weapons, you'll easily get the Fence achievement by the end of the game. If you rescue lots of claptraps, or earn the Fully Loaded achievement first, you'll be able to hold more weapons at once, making it easier to get this achievement.

Borderlands is a game all about guns, there are millions of them and you will be given some for completing missions, enemies killed can drop them, you can find them in the larger chests (Red with rounded corners and the large flat silver boxes) and you can also buy them from the red weapon vending machines.

You can sell guns at any of the 3 types of vending machines (Guns, Ammo and Med) by pressing cn_RB to move over to the sell tab in the vending machine. All guns sold in vending machines count but you cannot buy back a gun and sell it again to increase the count. You can buy guns from a vending machine solely to sell for this achievement however.

If you looking to pop this achievement very early on, it is very simple to do so without having much money. If you need this achievement for a streak, UHH and so forth, this is the quickest way to get this from starting the game afresh, within 90 minutes.

  • Complete the first nine missions, the important mission is Got Grenades?
  • Once the store is open, return to where T.K. Baha is sitting (the guy who gave you the last mission)
  • Enter the building he sits outside of, and go through the back door
  • Loot the weapons box
  • Pause and exit the game
  • Reload the game from the main menu and you will be near the weapons vender in Fyrestone
  • Sell the weapons you looted
  • Buy the cheapest weapons he sells
  • Sell them back to him again
  • Rinse and repeat
You may have more money than weapons available for sale, so if that happens, once you have sold the weapons, quit and reload the game for the inventory to restock. I only did this when I had more than $1000.

The crate varies in value, with my maximum being $8000 in loot. The weapons are very high level in comparison to your character. I was level 5 when I did this with the weapons being anything up to level 21.

Be aware that when you go to open the box, you will be ambushed by level 21 Psychos or Mini Psychos. You guns will barely scratch them so reloading makes them vanish.

I was going to make a video to show this in action but the game does not allow recording on Xbox One.

Easiest method is to buy all the guns from the vending machine in Fyrestone and then sell the ones you bought, then save and quit, repeat.
Do this on playthrough 1 as the guns are really cheap.

Actually really easy
A lot of people would actually get this without even trying if they don't like to keep they're back pack full and like to sell a lot of items.

Sometimes when you kill enemies they will drops weapons/shields/Classmods etc. Everytime they drop a gun, pick it up and save up as many as your backpack will hold. Then head to the nearest store (any doesn't matter) and sell them and just repeat until you sell 50

Super easy and will be gained withing an hour of playing. Just sell the crappy guns you loot back to the vendor and you will have this in no time flat.

This should also be achieved before the end of the first playthrough. Simply collect loot dropped from enemies, found in chests, and rewarded in quests and then sell it to a vendor. Selling med-kits and other loot will contribute to this achievement. Progress can be tracked in the challenges menu.
