How to unlock the What a party! achievement in Borderlands - Definitive Guide

Originally there were two issues in relation to getting any of the four collectible achievements linked to the Claptrap DLC.

The first one was a bug that is stopping a number of the collectable achievements:

A: “What a party!”
B: “It’s so realistic”
C: “Bobble-trap”
D: “The Lubricator”

Popping when they are achieved. Gearbox released a patch to fix the problem in late 2010 so this is no longer an issue.

The second issue is that the drop rates for a number of these items are obscenely low.

The best way I have found to deal with this problem is to "actively farm" MINAC - the final boss at the end of the DLC.

Now, many people are getting to MINAC, going to hide in a corner where MINAC and the Claptraps it releases can't get at them, and going away to do something else. After 3-4 hours they come back, kill MINAC and collect a tonne of items from around the area.

This I consider to be "passive farming". I have found, after much testing, that "actively farming" MINAC is immeasurably more rewards and prompts drop rates 3-6 times better than "passive farming" on all items.

"Active farming" involves dying a lot, to be blunt. But you aren't losing money when you do so, and MINAC doesn't return to full health if you do so (unlike Crawmerax) so there's no disincentive in dying.

To "actively farm", you need to shoot out all of MINACs turrets - not his "eye", but everything else. Once that is done, you can attack a bit more confidently.

Follow MINAC when he is on the move, but stay behind it so the "eye" can't get you. When MINAC stops, it will release Divine Wind claptraps - and this is when you attack.

Actively kill the claptraps from close to medium distance. What happens when you do so is that MORE and MORE spawn from MINAC.

For example, if you get in and kill the first tow claptraps to emerge from MINACs doors before those doors close, more claptraps will spawn. If you kill them, 2 more will spawn. And so on.

What happens is that instead of 2 claptraps emerging from the doors every time MINAC stops, 6-8 emerge.

Also, I found that with these extra claptraps emerging (and the greater number of dropped items which naturally appear), actively hunting them down seems to increase the chances for special drops.

In 90 minutes last night, I gathered 10 sets of 3D glasses, 6 Clapfish, 8 pink panties, 6-8 oil cans, 6-8 bobbleheads and 5 pieces of pizza. In just 90 minutes!

Once you're finished farming, kill MINAC and gather the rest of the items. But yes, get out, chase the claptraps and actively farm - its more fun and hugely more profitable.

you could also use modded crap... that's almost a given in most circles on borderlands

Is it possible to fight the MINAC again after killing it once? I'm assuming no, but was wondering if someone could confirm.

i5cent - absolutely possible - in fact, that's the great thing about this farming you can do. All you do, once you've killed it all, gone through the credits, etc, is work your way back to Tartarus Station. From there, go through Wayward Pass again killing the enemies you killed the first time and you'll reach MINAC again.

Personally I've always collected everything, saved and quite the game to dashboard, so if the above suggestion doesn't work, exit the game and re-enter.

By LepraSaun on 22 Oct 2010 11:06
Ah, OK. Then I reckon you use that to your advantage. If you are in trouble health wise, simply get run over. That way you regain full health and don't lose anything for doing so.

Very helpful - one thing I notice with the passive option as well is the drops seem to get scattered a lot and sometimes you will have some that can't be picked up. When you are active you can keep them in the same area and pick them up quickly. I found it even quicker to fill my inventory with whatever and then just pick up everything that falls so it is easier to identify what is dropped rather then have huge piles all over.

I have everything but maybe 5 more pizzas. The drop rate for pizza is the worst. During the entire game I never saw 1. Took 20 mins into farming to finally see one.....this blows.

I dont know if its just me or what, but it wont let me take out all the turrets (took probably 20 minutes trying) and I only had like 1 left, so I just tried to kill all the claptraps and then the turrets kept coming back after I shot them out.

1) How do I get back to the MINAC? I killed him in a multi-player game but I wasn't the party leader. Theres no active mission for me to get back to it.

2) How do you check to see how many pizzas/bobbleheads/fish you have found already?

Lunch, you need to work through the story missions in your own game to get to the MINAC. I don't believe there is anywhere you can check how many ou have got.

A suggestion to add here, folks, and it worked like a charm for me. Take out the turrets as per the solution, and then follow MINAC as suggested. when it stops in one of the 4 'claptrap' drop zones, stand just in front of the tread on either side. the claptraps will sense your presence and kamikaze you, but you will be protected by the body of the MINAC... just be sure to get out of the way after the 8th or so boom (or when MINAC has closed the claptrap hatch, in other words.) I can attest to the smoothness of this method, and it took me about an hour of this method to pop my final 3 collection chievos. Hope this helps you all out!

Also, to further comment on LepraSaun's statement, yes, MINAC will gain back hisd health if you die, but any destroyed turrets will not respawn. I brought a Combustion hellfire SMG (respawns ammo) with zoom feature... it gave me the easiest possible run on turrets and MINAC itself when the time came to pull the plug on it. If you don't have one of these beauties, I heartilly recommend playing 5 round tourneys in Moxxi's Underdome, and checking the gun drops after each round. In one 5 round, found 2 of these incredible guns, essentially an auto-sniper. Good luck, and happy farming!

I just wanted to add some info that I obtained while on a single MINAC playthrough/farming session.
Pizza was by far the last thing I finished off, I finished the Oil Cans and Bobbleheads at least two hours before I got this achievement.
While the numbers may be fairly inaccurate, I figured I'd post the stats of the occurrence of items that were dropped for me in this single farming session. The numbers show where I was at the second I got this achievement.
3D Glasses - - 40
Oil Cans - - - 21
BobbleHeads - 07
Pink Panties - 22
Fish - - - - - 32
Pizzas - - - - 12

wanderer's numbers should be more like
3d glasses -- 4,000
oilcans --- 100
bobble heads--- 20
pink panties---- 22,000
Fish --- 32,000
pizza's -- 1
This is a more accurate distribution. it is ridiculous how much time spent getting this

The active farming technique works much better. I found the more claptraps I killed when MINAC would shoot them out, the better loot they dropped. You do die alot but it speeds the process up immensely.

Thank you Chris8875 and all commenters for this solution. Actively farming MINAC w/ all turrets destroyed was fun and allowed me to get the [Lubricator], [Bobble-Trap] and [What A Party] achievements.

I destroyed the turrets w/ an x4 Incendiary Hard Volcano sniper rifle from long-range and similar to what other contributors mentioned, w/ an x4 Combustible Hellfire SMG at mid- to short-range. The shack w/ the red chest provides good cover while taking out the turrets.

It took me two farming sessions. Each active farming session took about 1.5 hrs each. Prior to reading about this solution, I was farming the two claptrap areas in the Hyperion Dump, so I may have had a few oil cans, bobbleheads and pizzas to begin with.

Four plus hours in and I’ve only got the oil can achievement. Pretty sure I’ve only gotten 4-5 pizzas and bobble heads so far. Whoever at Gearbox thought it was a good idea to have 3 achievements based on RNG with absurdly low drop rates can go get anal rapped by an STD riddled rusty nail. HOW COULD YOU THINK THIS IS FUN?! Were you trying to say F-U to the achievement hunters?

Thumbs up. I was able to get all collectible sets in just 9 hours using MINAC method. The game seems to only allow around 5 collectibles on the map at a time. So once all 5 are out there, no more will spawn until 1 is picked up, then another 1 random collectible will take its place. If after 15 minutes, you still only find 1 or 2, it either dropped under the map or you're not looking hard enough.

The easiest way I found to do this, is to use a high level character and "actively" farm MINAC on Playthrough 1. That way, you lose a fraction of the heath when hit and you practically never die, unless you get run over. The pizza, oil can and bobble head, seem to have a lower ratio of drops. It seems that 3D glasses and Clap-Fish are the most common.

They've released a update for borderlands that doesnt respawn the MINAC over and over anymore...so if you are going to farm these items your going to have to do it all in one shot be prepared for long one...If you have a plug n charge kit then you can leave it run for like 6 hours and do something better with your time otherwise your going to have to stand by and ensure your controller doesnt shut off hence pausing the game...

I have 2 problems:

1st: I tried to actively farm, but when I destroyed the 3rd turret, MINAC just blew up...
2nd: I also tried passive farming, but I can't for the live of me find the invincible spot people are talking about/showing in a video. I always get killed...

I tried this solution as it is written and it has various flaws. You do lose money and all the enemies restore health when you die. Active farming is only good with modded or a weapon strong and fast enough to kill the claptraps in 3 or less hits. This applies to the turrets as the rocket turret in front never misses and kills you in 2 hits.

The best is to find the safe spot and kill as many turrets you can with a sniper rifle. Listen for the pop sound the eye makes when it attacks and the press B to crouch and again to stand up. From the safe spots you can destroy up to 5 or 6 of them from the different locations and angles the MINAC goes to. Once you have destroyed all the turrets you then have to follow the minac and destroy the rest. Best place to be is close to the turret's sides and far enough back to where you can see the turret but it won't shoot at you.

Reason to destroy the turrets is for when you come back to loot the stuff that drops you will get destroyed in seconds if the turrets are there. One thing I noticed is I had a power outage while leaving my console on and when I went back and picked up a 2 pizzas i got the what a party achievement. So if you see the save icon on the screen the items you picked up are saved.

The fish and panties won't take long to get, but the pizza is probably the rarest drop and you need a lot of them. So be prepared to farm for a while.

There are two easy way to get collectibles.

1. In the hyperion dump, north of the entrance.
2. Farming MINAC.

For method 1 just go to the hyperion dump, head north and kill all of the claptraps surrounding the fort. Collect any rare-drops and then save and quit. Then resume game and you will be back at the entrance and you can do it again. This is not terribly difficult but rather time consuming. I was only getting 1 or 2 rare drops in a run.

For method 2 go to MINAC and immediately run forwards and to the left. On the left hand side of the road (after the really big rock) there is a smaller rock you can hide behind. From the road looking at the rock there is a red chest to the right of it. From this position you can avoid MINAC and the DW claptraps. Pop out once and a while to destroy all of the turrets. Once you've done that it is relatively safe to go out from your hiding spot. Here is where you have some options. You can either stay in your hiding spot for hours, or you can go out and chase MINAC around killing the DWCTs quickly. The faster you kill them the more of them spawn.

I decided to use a combination. After sitting for awhile I would run out, collect items and chase MINAC around. When I got bored I just went back into hiding and walked away and did something else. I was a little hesitant to leave it over night without testing it first.

On my first run I wasn't close enough to the rock and eventually some DWCT got to me and killed me. If you are situated correctly you could die a lot if you leave it over night.

Once you've left it run for a while hop out and collect your loot and then kill MINAC. The longer you let it go the more loot there will be. I only had to leave it going overnight (8hrs) to get the remaining items.

Pizza
Oil Can
Claptrap bobble-heads
Panties
Fish
3D glasses

Pizza is the rarest most definitely. Farming minac is one way to go however Hyperion dump and the clap trap factory in the Dividing Faults area got me better results. As a hunter I had a scavengers mod that gave me and my team a plus 2 rare items. I also had my ransack skill at 5/5. Of course theres no confirmation from Gearbox what helps. I did find I had better luck with multiple people in the game. I also collected pizza in my second play through and a friends 1st. So just as long as you are doing it with 1 character your ok. So what have I learned?

1. Spec your characters skills for maximum drops
2. Farm with more than 1 person

If you are only going for the special items, you can sit and do the MINAC version, which takes a long long time, left mine on for 10+ hrs only got 3d glasses chieve and its a party. But when you are killing claptraps if they drop a special it will drop two things one normal one special, so when killing look for a double green drop to make it go a little faster. The best to farm them is the dump at the beginning go north around the Hyperion camp, then south east corner also has bunches of only claptraps.

I did this one yesterday. I hadnt seen pizza yet and I had a very little amount of bobble heads.
I started the MINAC boss again and did active boosting:( first destroy his turrets then following him and shooting to his garage or whatever it is, killing as many claptraps as possible ) but after an hour I was so frustrated because I got just two oil cans, few panties and two fish.

Still no pizza, no bobble head but after maybe 10-15 minutes I thought its my lucky day :D I have got 2 pizzas at once and then 1 bobble head.

After this moment I have got 16 pizzas, 14 bobble heads, 19 oil cans, up to 20 from panties, fish, 3D glasses in around 4 hours of boosting.

So try it maybe it will work for you too it is different for everyone.

I personally used the farming of MINAC technique. Upon entering the area where you battle it, make your way to the left corner and park yourself behind the rock, make sure you're ducked down and as close as possible to the rock. At this point, I walked away. Went to bed, to work the next day and came back approx. 20 hours later. Please note that even with your character ducked next to the rock, the turret guns on MINAC will still occasionally hit you. You may want to use the shield upgrade so that it recharges it after being hit. I came back 20 hours later and had extensive drops. Please also note that the amount of drops was so extensive that my Xbox had trouble handling it and was quite slow with movements upon picking it back up. Simply beat MINAC and collect everything you need. The landscape was almost completely green from drops. I got more than what I needed for all of the achievements. This was my method and I think it worked quite well.

This Is the quickest possible method:

- Use a Modded shield so you don't die. (Unless Ran Over)

- Use A modded gun so you can spawn trap the claptraps.(Ask anyone online, most Players have them.)

- Use Berserkers super sprint glitch to run the same speed as the MINAC. (Click LB activating Rage, Then Enter a Racer. You'll need to do this before entering Sanders Gorge, go to arid badlands through fast travel as there are no catch a ride stations located in any of the DLC. )

- And then you just chase the MINAC around for 2 Hours spawn trapping the Claptraps coming out the door on the back of the MINAC, stay as close as possible. Then you should have all 4 of these achievements. Also when you finish the DLC, you can go back to the MINAC at any point, it will respawn along with the Marcus cut scene.

In the order I Achieved,
It's so realistic!
Bobble-Trap.
The Lubricator.
What a party!

Note: If you don't want to use mods, try to play as a really high level on Playthrough one, this will is closest you can get to being invincible without mods. Passive Farming would probably take about 15 hours, So I wouldn't bother.

Best way to do this is farming MINAC. There's a hiding place on the map where you won't take any damage and you do not have to destroy any turrets and/or spawning claptraps:

When you enter the combat area go to the small alcove on the far right corner of the map and hide behind the dumpster on the right side. Once hidden, you can go to sleep or do whatever you want. MINAC will kill all spawning claptraps or they will kill themselves by exploding.
Next step: kill MINAC and INAC, then collect the stuff you need.

I farmed for about 9 hours and there were enough panties, Pizzas, bobble heads, clap fishes, oil cans and 3D glasses for all the collecting achievements.

This achievement requires you to collect 3 pink panties, 5 clap-fish, and 15 pizzas. These items are also dropped randomly from clap-traps.

This is the same concept as The Lubricator.

Panties, fish and pizza are items dropped from claptraps. Unfortunately, the drop rate for these items are extremely low and may require an extended period of time to collect them. It varies by luck. The best place to farm for these parts is fighting the MINAC, where there will be endless claptrap spawns until you defeat the MINAC.

Once fighting the MINAC, you will want to take out its turrets to make farming easier. Afterwards, you can do 2 different methods (or combination of both):

1) Active farming. This will require a lot of ammo and different guns. It's best to use the SMG, Assault Rifle and Shotgun. The higher the magazine clip, the better. You simply camp the claptrap spawns and continually shoot into the MINAC where they come out of. This does not increase the drop rate for these items but you kill more claptraps than method 2 and will typically earn the trophy in at least half the time.

2) Passive farming. This will require a lot of time. All you have to do is find a spot on the map where MINAC and claptraps cannot get to you. Some people prefer the rocks scattered throughout the map but I prefer the small hut. After you found your spot, simply leave the game on for anywhere between 3-10 hours. Afterwards, pick up the parts where MINAC usually stops. For example, right outside the hut is where MINAC will stop sometimes. Once you done this, weaken MINAC until he's almost dead. Wait until he moves to the spot where there are no parts to pick up (outside the hut) and then proceed to kill him. This is important because if you do not pick up the parts where MINAC is killed, you will not be able to collect the parts it is sitting on.

Below is an excellent video detailing both methods. Credit goes to XeoPro.

Other than personally keeping track, there is no way to know how many parts you have. It is best just to keep farming for every part required until the trophy unlocks.

The choice is yours!

Happy Hunting :)

There is a :hat: ELEMENTARY H) way to get all the crazy trophies (oil cans, glasses, bobble heads and party).

First, we turn off the energy saving on the controller, now it will not turn off on its own.

We reach the final boss MINAC (healthy claptrap).

As soon as the battle begins, we run to the gate which, in theory, should lead to Firestone and hide in the booth where at the very beginning of the game (at the very first appearance of the raiders) the Claptrap was hiding.

We put the joystick aside and go about our business. MINAC will roll back and forth and crush kamikaze claptraps, things will fall out.

I recommend leaving it like that overnight, or for 12 hours. After this time, we pick up the joy again and see that everything is wildly laggy, but the clearing is simply strewn with spare parts, etc., we quickly bring down MINAC and collect the loot. All in your pocket.

Thanks to Xioshi for the tip.
I think that the number of killed claptraps will be approximately the same, it doesn’t matter whether you kill them yourself within an hour, or during this hour they are crushed by MINAC. I would just hide in a booth, leave the joystick for a few hours, and then just collect the loot. I repeated this until I got all the trophies and finished it in a day.

I collected all the things needed for TROPHIES by constantly replaying the last boss - Big Claptrap.

In fact, you can anywhere in any other location, but this is fraught with loading levels, restarting the game, in other words, wasting time! And there is an endless respawn of little claptraps, which is what we need)

Therefore, the waste of time here is only 15-30 minutes, to kill the bosses preceding the last one, respectively Ned, Steele, Nox, and then pure farming until you get tired)

And then everything is basically simple, we take out ALL the guns and run around killing the claptraps, they appear from a large one in 4-5 pieces, with a frequency of 1 minute.

Everything drops from them: pizzas and panties and fish and oil dishes and figurines (though, still, not as often as we would like)

There’s no need to worry too much about the death of your character (and it’s quite difficult to die when all the boss’s guns have been taken out), the respawn is right there, it took me 30 million money for 3 hours of such running around, that’s to sell 10-15 guns (in this add-on not a problem at all), died 20-30 times...then again

I hope I saved someone time

PS I want to say special thanks to the gentlemen from Gearbox for such a wonderful percentage of drops of the necessary things In FF13, I really didn’t bother with trapezohedron!

It’s better to run up almost to the Big Claptrap mine, from where the robots appear, and shoot. It is advisable to have a rapid-fire weapon and fast reload. So you can kill 10 Claptraps at a time, or even more.
