To reach max love level with the Dagger, you can run either dungeon to gain XP and also give gifts when prompted throughout the game on dates and dungeons.
Confirmed Perfect Gifts for the Dagger are (this is what I used with the Dagger; there is likely more- please comment them if you find them & I will edit):

Single Malt Scotch
Gourmet Cupcake
But pretty much any gift will do in combination with running the dungeons.

I'm probably the only person that runs into this issue: You can't move past Level 4 with any character until you finish Dungeon 1. You won't get any more dates until afterwards.
(I only ran into this roadblock because I'm doing Warboats & couldn't beat Boss 1 right away. I'm sure by the time most ppl get Dagger to Lvl 4 they've already finished Dungeon 1 and this comment won't matter.)
