How to unlock the Not so sneaky now, are you? achievement in Brink - Definitive Guide

This gentleman on YouTube details how to get it solo very easily indeed. Worked first time for me. This isn't my video and I take no credit whatsoever for it.

I can't get this to work for the life of me, would it be because I'm a level 21?

Great solution, but this still takes forever. The enemy team hardly ever uses disguises.

This achievement is not as easy as the guide makes it out to be, it's mostly down on luck whether the enemy AI operative wants to take a disguise or not.

EDIT: Got it now, forget everything I just said. This might be the better solution for it, although it's a lot of trial and error just to get it.

This achievement asks you to reveal an enemy Operative who is in disguise. In order to do this, you simply fire upon a disguised operative until he is incapacitated and he will instantly shift back to his normal form. You can also melee him, baseball slide into him, or hit him with grenade splash, as long as he's an impostor (and not actually a team-mate) he'll be knocked to the ground by these actions.*

(*Note - In Advanced settings, with Friendly Fire at the highest settings, I believe you can knock your allies down with baseball slides/melee attacks, so these may not be as useful in identifying spies. More just annoying team-mates, really.)

Operatives in disguise are fittingly difficult to spot. The easiest way to spot one is to be an operative with Homing Beacon - this will outline enemies in red, even if they are disguised. Alternatively, if he makes the mistake of trying to impersonate you - this can lead to some comical online moments! (try impersonating someone and following them around next time you're bored - see how long it takes them to notice their doppleganger shadowing them =P )
The only other way to legitimately identify an enemy Operative in disguise is to be vigilant for odd behaviour - disguised players can only move and SMART. Be on the lookout for so called 'allied' players acting strangely:
~ Hanging around near enemies without being fired on (His teammates will see his real name following him, they won't attempt to kill him)
~ Running against the flow of battle. (Unless he's being chased by enemies and bullets, there's no reason for your medics and soldiers to be running past you towards your spawn points)
~ Not firing. (Already mentioned above, but it really should be watched for, disguised players cannot fire. I'm not encouraging friendly fire, but a few speculative rounds into an ally who's avoiding combat will reveal his true alliegance.)
~ Finally, be vigilant for duplicate Gamertags. This is more easily noticeable in Competition Public Freeplay, where everyone will be human, but a disguised Operative will show his victims Gamertag above his head, even after his victim has respawned. This can lead to SEVERAL (I once saw an entire team disguised as me) duplicates. These GTs will not show through walls, so if an ally's GT shows up just as he enters the room, he is an impostor.

An operative will almost always act a little busted if you stop and ironsight them. They may sprint away, stare at you waiting for a reaction, etc. The sketchier ones will pull their weapons, breaking the illusion.

Failing all of that, simply set up a private 1v1 with a friend, both play as operatives, and take in turns killing eachother and wearing their skin.

Got to admit, I had to do a double take when I saw myself run past.

I can only imagine the downvotes are from people too illiterate to read my solution, and thus too illiterate to explain their reasons. Need a Youtube video for everything?

Mine is by far the most comprehensive guide to this (admittedly quite common) achievement. Why the hate?

I am having trouble getting this achievement. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. I am trying to get it legit. I have killed an operative many times, but maybe someone else is getting shots on him too. Also I have even killed him while he was incapped and watched him turn back...Still no achievement. I really don't want to setup a damn session for this.

Hmmm. The operative should transform back pretty much during the incapping animation. As in, it'll be your ally standing, and your enemy prone.

The best thing I can suggest is either starting a new character, or failing that - clearing your Brink gamesave. These are the only things you can do to try and jog the system's memory if the achievement is glitched on you.

Also, I've had reports of Brink achievements unglitching themselves, as 'cheeves are known to do. If it's really getting you down, just turn off the 'Box and come back to it later, it may give it to you.

Otherwise, I'll help you get this anytime (err, except tonight, 04/06/2011, because my housemate's made off with my copy of Brink!)

I love watching myself run past. It's also hilarious how the enemy AIs don't notice you, ever. I stood in the middle of a firefight for like 5 minutes just putting Homing Beacons on people, and neither side seemed to care.

Since I've gotten most of the achievements now, I've been trying out some 'enemy awareness fail' experiments. I disguised myself as an enemy Soldier trying to plant a charge, and repeatedly stood next to the objective in question, watched him come right up and stand next to me planting the charge, turned back into myself and killed him again - COMMS HACKED HIM while he was alive, then killed and impersonated him again. This happened about five times. I think if his team hadn't shown up in force, he'd have fallen for it all day.

An allied Soldier, standing next to the objective... But not planting? Not just that, an allied Soldier with HIS name..

God. I love Operatives.

This one is easy. Have a private match with another friend in freeplay and both be operatives. The one going for achievement gets killed then the killer takes disguise and then you kill him when you come back. Bee Boop Acheevo unlocked!!!

Required Class: Operative (or any other if you shoot them out of disguise)
Required Ability: Homing Beacon
Ability Unlocked: Rank 2

To get this achievement, the opposing team must have Operatives that are actively disguising themselves. You must then focus your aim on them (holding ) and reveal them. The game will not do it automatically. If you find another person with your gamertag, then you know they are a fake. If you see someone not shooting the opposing team, or doing any objectives, you can also figure they may be a fake. Is the other team ignoring them completely and shooting you? Suspicious team mates hanging around enemies without being attacked? You come into a zone plagued with enemies and one of your team mates, camping together. That is who you will want to focus your aimer on.

Note: You can also pick any class and just shoot them out of disguise. This achievement may unlock without you even being aware you were doing it.

This can be one of the hardest trophies to achieve in this game. Only an operative can go in disguise and you will need to spot the enemy while he either is going under disguise or just completed the disguise formation. Your character will say "Enemy in disguise." That is when you can kill him and the trophy will soon follow. Having the Homing beacon ability will help get this trophy a little easier.

This can be boosted in a private match.
