How to unlock the And, they do windows! achievement in Broken Age - Definitive Guide

There are 6! (6 factorial) solutions to this puzzle. That is 720 (6*5*4*3*2*1) solutions.

Using a notepad is recommended.

The aim of this puzzle is to wire the Hexipal with three wires such that the symbols match the symbols in the top left of the picture of Shay and his family. This picture.

This puzzle is straightforwards when it is understood. It is assumed that at this point all the requirements have been met to start the puzzle, i.e wire and hexipal collected.

Firstly, open your inventory and the hexipal.

Using this as your template,

You need to wire the pins on the hexipal.

Press A on pin 6 and then press A on pin 2.
Press A on pin 5 and then press A on pin 3.
Press A on Pin 4 and then press A on pic 1.

Close the Hexipal.

Next place the Hexipal in the charging station on the left hand side.

This will reveal the symbols that match each pin as currently wired above.

This will be different for each player so no all-in-one solution can be given.

In my example the symbols were revealed like this.

There is a 1 in 720 chance that you have the correct solution immediately. For the rest of us, here is how to solve the puzzle.

Using YOUR image that is displayed above the charging station you will now work out which pins to connect.

The symbol on the top left (blue) is the symbol that matches pin 6.
The symbol on the top right (blue) is the symbol that matches pin 2.
The symbol on the middle left (yellow) is the symbol that matches pin 5.
The symbol on the middle right (yellow) is the symbol that matches pin 3.
The symbol on the bottom left (red) is the symbol that matches pin 4.
The symbol on the bottom right (red) is the symbol that matches pin 1.

In short.

Top left pin 6
Top right pin 2
Middle left pin 5
Middle right pin 3
Bottom left pin 4
Bottom right pin 1

This order is the same for everyone but the symbols that match these pins will be unique to you.

With this information you can now solve the puzzle.

In my example, to reproduce the image from the family photo I have to wire like this.

The 1st symbol in the family picture (top left) matches the bottom left symbol in red in my image (pin 4)
The 2nd symbol in the family picture (top right) matches the bottom right symbol (red) in my image (pin 1)
The 3rd symbol in the family picture (middle left) matches the top right symbol (blue) in my image (pin 2)
The 4th symbol in the family picture (middle right) matches the middle left symbol in yellow in my image (pin 5)
The 5th symbol in the family picture (bottom left) matches the middle right symbol in yellow in my image (pin 3)
The 6th symbol inthe family picture (bottom right) matches the top left symbol in blue in my image (pin 6)

You now have your solution, phew!

Open your hexipal up and snip all the wires.

For my example I now tie pin 4 to pin 1. Pin 2 to Pin 5. Pin 3 to Pin 6.

Shay will say "I have a good feeling about this".

I was hoping this would be a short solution but it requires a lot of explanation to avoid confusion. Hope this helps.

Just a note that if you save and come back to this puzzle the symbols may have been regenerated so you'll need to do the terminal test again.

Most of the info to solve this is in the walkthrough attached to the game on this site, credit is to the author, not myself, however I was still getting this wrong. This guide only works in tandem with the walkthrough and will not make sense unless you read it. It assume you have followed the guide to get the hex guy and the wire.

You have a hexagon that you need to rewire that has 6 terminals. When you place the hexagon into the charging station on the left, 6 symbols will pop up on screen.

Now grab a piece of paper and write down the symbols and write blue next to the top two, yellow next to the middle two and red next to the bottom two.

Your symbols are random on every play through, however the symbols and the wires you placed tell you where the symbols on your hexguy are.

Open up the hex guy again so you can see the wires you placed and grab the piece of paper again, and draw a hexagon with a point at top and bottom and 4 dots in between, like the hex guy.

The first blue symbol the machine showed you is the start of the blue wire you placed. On your drawing of a hexagon on your paper draw the symbol that matches the first blue symbol. Draw the second blue symbol at the point that matches the end of the blue wire.

Do this again for the yellow and red wires you placed, ie the first yellow and red symbols mark them were the wires start on the hex guy and mark those symbols on your paper copy, and then do the same for the symbols that match the end of those wires.

You should now have a picture of a hexgon on your paper that shows your playthroughs hexguy diagram key.

Now going back to the walkthrough, look at the family picture. It has 3 sets of symbols.

Use the hexguy diagram grid on your paper to match the symbols in the family photo on your hex guy.

You must connect the symbols in the order shown as the electricity only flows in one way. So Symbol 1 in the picture has to connect to symbol 2, not 2 to 1 of the electric wont flow in the right direction.

The first line in the family picture is your blue wire, second is the yellow, third is the red

Place the hex guy back into the charging socket and then give him to Alex

I hope this helps someone

Story related; cannot be missed

Shay - Act Two

- RANDOM PUZZLE -

When you are with Alex in the mountain you use the hexagonal robot with the wire and place it in the recharge station.
There is no simple way to explain this as it is random but if you search online you will find a picture that is in Vella's story of Act Two that shows the symbols in the combination you need. The guide in 3.3 (100G) tries to explain but he says the color combination does not matter, but I found that it does. From top to bottom it goes blue/yellow/red. After you complete this, give the robot to Alex and the achievement should unlock. (I had to complete this puzzle twice for it to unlock so make a manual save before the puzzle).

After this puzzle it is time to switch to Vella to continue.
